finish it up Friday, week 14

Welcome to finish it up Friday! I have a finished quilt to share today, which always feels good!
This sweet little baby quilt was made from just one layer cake. I even had a few squares leftover, which I didn't mind a bit. :) The fabric is A Walk In the Woods, by Aneela Hoey for Moda. I just love it! It is soft & sweet and wonderful to work with. And did I mention it's as cute as the day is long?
To quilt it, I free motioned a simple loopy design all over in white thread. I like to use 70 weight thread, because is nice and thin and I like how the quilting fades into the background. Even on the bolder red blocks you can see the quilting but it doesn't look "thready". Perfect! Plus, it gives you a little more room for error. Or should I say imperfections? :)
I machine bound it using this fabulous dot from Sarah Jane's Children at Play line. I was going to bind it something pink, but that was just way too sweet. The light aqua worked so much better. I just love these dots!
For the back I used one of my favorite fabrics ever...picnic dot in mint. Totally impractical for a baby quilt, but hey, it's cute!!! And again, sweet, but not too sweet.
The pattern was adapted from my whirlygiggle block tutorial here.
The quilt measures 43" square.

Now it's your turn. Link up your finishes for the week! Remember to link to a specific post. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday! Hope you have a great weekend!

Oh my heavens! That is so stinkin' adorable!! I finished up a quilt but can't link it until next week (the baby shower isn't until tomorrow!) so I only have a Valentine's Shirt to share. Thanks for hosting! Smiles~Beth

Cute project! This is such a perfect way to show off these adorable prints. I still have a jelly roll of her Sherbet Pips collection, but I'm not good with using precuts, so I can never figure out what to make with it. Love the quilting on this one too!

I love it! I just bought a pack of the 'Walk in the Woods' fabric. I am excited to play with it. Sadly I had to take my machine in for repairs so I have all these unfinished projects staring at me - I hate it!

Thanks for linking to your whirly gig block tutorial!!! I've had whirly gigs on my mind since your post last week :)

You mentioned that you machine bound it, but it looks like it's hand-finished on the back... could you clarify? Would love to see a link to a good machine-binding tutorial if you have one!
Thanks :)

So fun to see this quilt here!!! LOVE what you made! Thanks for the tip on using the 70 wt thread, I'm always at a loss on what to use where I have a bright red and white fabrics in the same quilt :)

Cute little quilt for a lucky baby. I love the quilting on it! I don't have anything finished :( I've really tried!

Beautiful little quilt! I love that pattern - need to give it a try myself! And they're not mistakes, or imperfections - they are artistic creativenesses! (I think that's a word.... ;-)

And unfortunately, I don't have a finish to link up this week - boohoo!! But I'll see you next week!!

Very cute! Your free motion quilting impresses me. Something I still need to practice. I tend to tense up and it always shows in my work.

Thank you for sharing the thread that you used for quilting. I was looking through your Q&A section the other day. I was wondering if you happen use the same number for sewing? I love your quilt as always!

I just ordered this same layer cake. Will it work for a raw edges quilt? Thanks.

Very cute! Sweet as can be. It looks like a variation on that "twister" block quilt I see going around....

Those blue polkadots are the BOMB. Love them. And love your take on how to use these prints. Such a cute quilt! And a white back is totally fine for a baby. Just include a stain stick with it when you give it as a gift. ;)

I have a great niece/nephew on the way and I started this quilt today. It is a challenge to wrap my head around. I had to draw on graph paper AND use my quilt design wall before I could sew a stitch. I love how it is starting to look on the wall! Thanks for challenging my brain and giving me beauty all in one!

Hello! I mean this in the nicest way:

OH YOU, YOU! YOU just added another quilt to my queue. :-)

I think I need to start with one where my whirlygiggles are made with a solid and a pattern first. I fear that the nesting is hard. Is it?

This is such a sweet quilt for this line, might have to do it with your improve swirlies below.

I've made the Betty Shopper and LOVE it except next time I'm making the opening BIG.
