I feel kind of "meh" about this quilt. I don't know what it is about it, but I'm going to put it in my quilt cupboard and pull it back out in 6 months and see if I like it more then. Sometimes the 6 month waiting period helps.
It was a WIP that was sitting around for way too long. A few weeks ago I pulled it out and worked out some of my stress and frustrations while finishing it up. Quilting is GREAT therapy.
It's a lap size that measures 50" x 60". The background is bleached muslin. It was inspired by this earlier quilt of mine, but I stuck to all solids this time around. I did a smaller stipple than usual, which I like quite a bit.
Binding and backing came from the stash.
Speaking of stash...I've been trying to make a dent in mine, so I've been keeping track (loosely at least) of my fabric usage this year. I've only busted about 46 yards so far. My goal is 100 yards. I still can't believe that I have THAT MUCH FABRIC! I guess I've been living in denial. ;)

I think the quilt is beautiful! Maybe it's just that hanging-around-too-long syndrome giving it bad vibes. Hope you'll like it more when it comes out of time out!

I think it is a great finish and totally agree that quilting is wonderful therapy. But I have to say, you only have 100 yards to bust... You should come over to my house, you have no idea!

The quilt is super dooper! I am trying to reduce my stash too. Some fabrics aren't as appealing now as they were when I got them and there are so many I want to buy!
It's reasons like this quilt that make me so glad you are back blogging. I'm off to the store TONIGHT to buy the fabric to copy the pattern.
Have you ever considered selling your quilts? I local boutique or in an etsy shop on your blog? You could make a fortune.

That is a lotof stash to bust. I keep trying, but I keep bringing more in than I am using up. That is the wrong direction hu?
I can't believe you actually counted your fabric! My criteria for more fabric is "does it fit in the cupboard?" or "will it get used up right away and not need a place in the cupboard?". :D

Oh my gosh, I love it! I was looking for something fast to make my brother, who just got a divorce and moved into an apartment with his two sons and has almost no furniture or anything. Looks fast, easy, and is really attractive!
Personally, I think it's really gorgeous! I love all kinds of quilts, but I just love the 'crispness' of white and bright colors, then those small dashes of color are really cool! Very contemporary!
I don't know how you can be ambivalent about it, it's lovely.

Oh, girl, we ALL live in denial about how much fabric we have. I think 46 yard busted is pretty good. I think I contribute more to my stash than I remove from it (and we all know that scraps multiply). I like this quilt. I like that you used solids in this one. It gives it such a crisp feeling. Don't feel "meh" about it. It's good. Striking.
And just to clarify, I don't think AJ was saying she only has 100 yards of fabric. She's just trying to reduce it by that much. (Halfway there!) I'm sure she has way more than that. Correct me if I'm wrong, girl.

Ya know, a yard is only 36 inches. You yourself are probably about a yard and a half high, bive or take a few inches. 46 yards isn't even half a football field, right? So it adds up fast even though it is not that much. That's my story, anyway :)

Oh! I forgot to say....sometimes the wait 6 months theory works the other way. Some years ago I made my Mom and my Dad each a quilt for Christmas. I LOVED Mom's but seeing it now I think "what was I thinking" The important thing is that she loves it and displays it proudly on the back of her sofa.
It has a clean, contemporary feel. Much like a Gee's Bend quilt, but with lighter, more spring-like colors. I can't imagine not loving that quilt! But I covet all your work - you are one of the major inspirations for my quilts!
I actually really like it - I was looking further on in your post for a tutorial ... any chance of that? Good luck on your 100 yards!

Thank you for posting your quilt size and intended use. I am making one for my mom now and it is 48 x 57 and I kept debating on whether it was big enough for a lap quilt or not. Honestly, I'm tired of looking at the fabrics, think I will call it a day and go with the size it is instead of making it any bigger.

Although I think it is a striking yet soothing quilt, I understand how sometimes a quilt just feels blah to you even after you've finished it. I was having a similar feeling last week about a quilt I kept hoping I would love more as I worked on it but was only loving less. To my amazement and delight, my sweetheart came saw it and said, "I really like that! That would be the perfect quilt for my sister!" Hooray--I can let go of this quilt without any regret, and I do think she'll like it. Checking off another name on my Christmas list is a great feeling, too. Anyone lurking on your Christmas list who might appreciate your quilt?

i saw earlier this year that you were trying to bust 100 yds from your stash. i thought to myself *wow, thats alot of fabric*. so i went to my cupboard and started counting. i have somewhere near 250yds not counting my fat quarters! (i got tired of counting and knew i needed to get sewing) so crazy this fabric obsession.

I like how there are fewer colored pieces with more background showing. These must take FOREVER to piece and lay out.

I think this quilt is very fresh and a little avante-gard! But if you think it's too plain, you could always applique a few random flowers over the top. Just found your blog today- surfing instead of quilting! How do you get both done?
