This quilt was so easy to make. I pieced the top in a few hours (if that), and the stippling was very easy, due to the lack of seams in the majority of the quilt. I used light blue thread to stipple the aqua parts, then I switched to white thread to quilt the strip of patchwork. I think the hardest part was trying to square it up after it was quilted.
I love the aqua solid fabric, which I bought at my local Mill End Textiles store. I wish I had another bolt of the stuff. It's the perfect color.
I backed it with one of my favorite fabrics of all time, (the cherry print) which is called Dainties, by Robert Kaufman. (I bought the rest of the bolt, also at Mill End Textiles.)
The red gingham bias binding is the perfect finishing touch, I think. I did not use my bias tape maker on this, I made traditional double fold binding. Working with bias strips is not my cup of tea, but I am glad that I went through the trouble this time.
The final size is about 68" x 76". It makes the perfect napping quilt. :)
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I LOVE this quilt.

When you first posted it I decided this might actually get to be my first finished quilt. I went right out and bought the fabrics for it and now I just have to find the time to put it together.

Ok, I'm confused now! Is there another way you finish a quilt without using binding around the edges? Don't all of your quilts have bias strips? You said you are glad you went through the trouble this time. I'm so confused!! Can you tell I'm new at this?! LOL I finished my first quilt and made a bias binding around the edges (It's a doll quilt! LOL) but if there is an easier way I'd love to hear it. But I actually didn't find the bias strip to be as difficult as I had imagined. I'm sure I didn't do it perfectly but it worked for me. I sewed it onto the front, then folded over the fabric and then machine sewed it onto the back without catching any of the front. Is this an okay way to do it? I hate hand sewing.

the way you finished off your quilt is just fine. normally I cut my strips for the binding across the grain of the fabric rather than on the bias. I do handstitch on the back, but unlike you, I LOVE to do that part. Lucky for me, otherwise I would have a mountain of unfinished projects right now. :)

This is my favorite, too. Aqua and red are my two favorite colors together right now, so it doesn't get much better than that! I wish I had a Mill End to go to. When we lived in Minnesota 5 years ago, I loved to go -- it was always like a treasure hunt -- and, of course, that was before I got into quilting, so I can only imagine how much fun I would have now if I went!

Oh I'm so with you - I LOVE this quilt!! Its simplicity is so wonderful and the fabrics and colour beautiful. It reminds me of a quilt I helped my very first customer with. She was making a quilt for her son and DIL who were both into very minimalist stuff. She did it in chocolate and limey green - it was stunning! Once I have done my machine quilting class I think I definitely need to make one for myself.
