friday favorites

Roxanne started Favorites Friday a few months ago. Isn't that a great idea? Here are a few of my favorites today.

Mountain Dew to go with my breakfast....(although this isn't specific to Fridays.)

After the amount of sleep I got last night, it looks more like this to me....

I was up from about 1am-4am...not with the kids or anything...I just had too much running through my little brain. Inspiration overload is fun, just not in the middle of the night, you know?

And I am in LOVE with this quilt top! I made this yesterday. I started it in the afternoon and I finished it up before bed.

I didn't even need to use the flash for this photo despite the overcast weather this morning. :) It's pretty bright, isn't it? I haven't been this excited about a quilt top in a long time. That means that as it progresses into a finished quilt, I am sure to love it more and more. I am calling it raspberry lemonade. (I am trying to get more creative with naming my quilts. I aspire to be half as clever as Susan is at naming her jewelry + photos.) It measures 64.5" square.

What are your favorites this Friday?

-----
And just a bit of blog business....I will be answering questions in the comments section, so if you ask a question, please check back for a response. We'll give that a shot and see how it goes.

LOVE the quilt top! And I love the little blocks you started yesterday. You're making me feel so unproductive. I haven't sat down at my machine in about three or four days YIKES!!

I wonder if it was in the air. I was awake a lot last night too thinking about things I want to make out of a box of stuff I won.

I always so this but I LOVE this quilt. You are just so amazing! I love the choice of colors and I love the name. My first thought was cherry limeade but I like raspberry lemonade.

Beautiful quilt top! Watch out for the caffeine in the Mountain Dew (that soda in particular has the most in it.)that might be keeping you up or disturbing your system.....

I use to love Mountain Dew. That stuff would give me enough jolt to get through many midterm papers.

The new quilt top is very colorful!

My Friday favorite is knowing that Hubby will taking care of the baby tonight so I can get some sleep!

Thank you for your answer. I need to think about it but the idea is appealing. One advantage I can think about now is the time it costs to press because waiting for the iron to heat up can be reduced if you press 4 quilts at the same time :-)

Your quilts are all amazing. I don't know how you find the time with little ones.

beautiful! i love the name too. I am so glad you start the day with a soda, because i do the same thing. I am not a coffee drinker, so I need to have a coke with breakfast, or right after. I am so addicted to it! i love it!

Oh - I love raspberry lemonade! What a great name for a quilt! It's really very pretty, and I really love bright colors too! My next quilt will be in brights for sure! (but I need to get the first quilt-along one done first!)

I am amazed at how quickly you put quilts together. It's wonderful.
p.s. love the name too!

Beautiful quilt!
I love it :)

I have a question - I'm trying to make a quilt for my newborn nephew, and I found some really cute surf fabrics, but the pattern is pretty large. Do you have any suggestions as to what kind of quilt to make? Maybe happy hour? I'm just starting to quilt, and I don't have a machine yet, so I'm sewing by hand...

I'd love any advice you have to offer :)

Love, love, love it!

Amanda Jean said...

julie & captain,

happy hour would be a great pattern to show off a larger scale fabric. or maybe you could use the larger patterned fabric as the backing and pick colors out of the design for the front? then you could use any pattern you would like. even just a bunch of squares all the same size would be charming for a baby quilt. those are just the thoughts off the top of my head now. hope that helps!

Raspberry quilt is darling. I started my morning with DMD or diet mt. dew. Quite similar to your breakfast.

Pretty quilt! I am also a fan of Diet Mountain Dew. Alas, I can no longer drink it after 3pm or I sleep fitfully. My Friday favorite? Ordering lunch "out" with the other women at work.

It's adorable, very happy and bright, sure to put a smile on the face of whoever uses it.

This quilt top reminds me of an outfit my mom wore one summer. Wish I was kidding. You could see her coming from a mile away.

Beautiful work as always!

Thats a perfect name, all fizzy and summery and juicy!!!

Love the name :) It really looks like raspberry lemonade! You could do an entire collection with names like that.

It's Friday, spent the entire day at the kid's school volunteering. I'm wiped. But I'm making homemade pizza dough for tonight. I'm too tired to go out!

have a great weekend!

oh i understand inspiration overload - i just posted about it earlier this week! i have to stop sewing at least 2 hours before i go to bed or else i can't ever fall asleep.
and mountain dew was once my favorite way to get through particularly long (and boring) lectures. it does the trick!

I love the quilt top & what a perfect name! You put it together so quickly, wow, I'm impressed! I can't wait to see it finished, I'm sure that won't be too long down the road at your pace. LOL Happy Friday & have a good week-end.

i really like that quilt a lot too! it's so simple but it looks so good! :)

Val said...

You absolutely amaze me! How can you do it all? I am still working on the quilt a long but progressing nicely. I will be blogging on it soon. I am very proud of it.

Today's favorite: Spending the whole day doing nothing but "me" things: visiting a quilt show, having lunch with girlfriends, reading blogs. Heaven!
Raspberry Lemonade is lovely!
I'm still doing nothing over here.

I love raspberry lemonade, both the quilt and the drink! I have been thinking of a rail fence, glad they go together so quickly. And I will be able to finally finish my quilt-a-long now that I found backing fabric at the quilt show in Chicago. What a great place to shop! Have you ever been here for it? If not, you should try...it's so much fun.

I love it! Great pattern and colors.

I love the quilt top. I am a huge fan of bright colors in a quilt. This one reminds me of woven ribbon. I also understand about being up at night. I am finally getting more sleep. I hope your creativity during the day gets you back on track! Beth

Have a great weekend :)

Love your Friday Favorite! I thought the second picture is what you felt like after drinking the Mountain Dew. Then I thought that the quilt short of took on the colors of the Mountain Dew can and that's what I thought the title was. Guess I was mistaken. although Raspberry Lemonade is a good second choice. Love the quilt, you are so inspiring.

sarah,

no, I have never been to the Chicago quilt show. For now I live vicariously through Carolyn's photos from the show. I'll have to plan a trip sometime!

What a refreshing name for a splash of summer color! Are the stripes 2 inches in size? I would love to something like this for my next Americana quilt.

Love the quilt top & the name :) I am always wishing I could be creative with blog titles & naming things that I make (or even my photos...). I always seem to go blank though :)

I have been reading your blog for quite a while now and am always amazed by how many quilts you make in what seems like such a short period of time. I also recognize that you are quite knowledgeable about quilting. That being said, would you address "quilting or sewing in the ditch" sometime. I am a self taught sewer and never learned how to do this. I have taken a quilting class, but it didn't address quilting in the ditch or free motion sewing. I have attempted to quilt/sew in the ditch, but not sure if I am doing it correctly. I would be most appreciative if you could share some insite on this.
Thank you in advance.

My jaw hit the floor when say this one. I ADORE the piecing on this quilt. It's so funky and unexpected, but still simple and symmetrical. I can see why this is a favorite of yours already. The name is sweet, too... I'm loosing my naming skills as of late!
