quilt-a-long week 8

Thank you all so much for your condolences and prayers for our family during this difficult time. We are doing as good as can be expected and are so thankful for each and everyone who took time to leave a comment.
----

Here is the block for week 8. Again, I tried to keep it fairly simple. Do you find as you make more blocks that they are going together easier?

cut 2 squares 4 7/8" from the background fabric
cut 2 squares 4 7/8" from the colored fabric

cut 10 squares 2.5" from the background fabric
cut 10 squares 2.5" from the colored fabric

sew your 4 7/8" squares together to make 4 sets of triangles

layout as shown

sew together using a 1/4" seam allowance

and you have another completed block.

As always, any questions will be answered in the comments.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you are caught up?

Need I say that I am not. You know about my list but I think I'll squeeze this in as a reward for finishing something. How many weeks are we doing again?

For the 4 4 7/8 squares to make 4 sets of triangles, do you cut 8 triangles out first and then sew them, OR are you sewing them together as squares in some faster way?

Love it!!!
I'm still thinking of you.
Of course I'm up to date. :-)

I'm totally caught up, and I have a 2 year old and a full time job (in addition to mommydom), so that should count for something!

I am totally in awe that just after the news of your father in law (z"l - Hebrew for May his memory be for a blessing) that you posted the quilt a long!

Wow. Now THAT is commitment.

And I am a total and complete novice, and I am finding myself growing and learning, as I posted on my own blog recently, so thank you, Amanda. And I'm MUCH less afraid of triangles, and would be willing to do the star quilt, too!

Since I'm only halfway through, please don't delete the directions for a little while, please? My excuse? the holidays, I wimped out.

I am sorry to say I am not caught up. I didn't expect to be able to keep up when I started ( I work 2 jobs) but I thought I would be able to do better than this. I'm not discouraged though, I will get there. I too hope you will keep the directions up for a little while. I am loving this.

I'm behind...have blocks 5, 6, 7 cut out and ready to sew. Tomorrow will cut out this one (#8)....then sew, sew, sew!

Sending my condolances....I did not know of this before now. Take care.

make and take,

for the triangles-draw a line on your lighter square with a pencil from one corner diagonally to the other corner. pin the two squares together and sew a quarter inch on either side of the line. cut apart. repeat. after sewing, cut apart on the diagonal line, press seams and you should have 4 half square triangle blocks.

let me know if you have further questions. :)

I'm hoping to get this week's block cut out tonight and sewn tomorrow and then I'll be caught up. I'm still debating whether or not to make 2 of each of the blocks so my quilt will be bigger and I can use more of my stash up!

I was so sorry to hear about your father-in-law - my thoughts are with you and your family.

Thanks Amandajean for making another great block, while you have lots of other things on your mind now!

I’ve finished all blocks, so I can start block 8, hurray. They get easier indeed. I struggled with the inches/centimeters, but I’ve figured it out now!

Take care!!

Well I have to say that I am a bit behind too. The holidays and a broken sewing machine set me back a couple of squares. Not giving up though...

Yep, I'm up to date. This is a nice excuse for me to buy a new floral fat quarter every week!

YEAH!

I finished those two blocks and a couple others besides.

Can't wait for next week.

Um, I still haven't started yet. It looks like I have a month to get caught up. My plan is to do a mini-version which means I have a lot of math to do. I have never reduced block patterns before so I really don't know what I'm doing.

I am up to date. This one looks really cool. Now to decided with fabric to use. AHH!

Sorry about your Father-in-law.

I am caught up also. Thanks for sharing your blocks with us.

I have 5 blocks done. This quilt along has been great for me. I'm using 30's fabrics that I've been collecting for a while and never got around to doing anything with them. I'm looking forward to making more blocks.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Amandajean. We were very sorry to hear of the sudden passing of your father-in-law. You & your family will certainly be in our prayers.

My Mum is chugging along and is up to date with her blocks. They are looking great. Thank you again for taking time to organise this for us all. It is a welcome distraction for my Mum as we too are mourning the loss of my Dad in this last year. Quilting is such wonderful therapy & gives us a sense of peace (mostly, except when those blasted pinwheel joins just won't meet)!! Thinking of you, Bloom.

I am all caught up and am loving this quilt a-long. I would to join the stars quilt a-long if you go forward with it. Its nice to have a project lined up for you whan life is too busy to have time for planning (that part of the process overwhelms me and I end up like a deer in head lights 0 unable to decide on anything).

Debbie said...

What a great block. I'm off to do it and stay on track. I look forward to the next block each week.

Well I have just jumped int and "joined" - just love the blocks some friends of mine have made so thought I would too - Im nearly up to date with them too

HI,

I am praying for your family today!

I completed block #8 and it is on my blog. :) It was fun!! I am looking forward to all I will learn. Since I am new I decided to do the current block and catch up with the others as I can, hopefully doing at least on "catch up" block per week.

In Christ, Karen T.
