quilt-a-long week 4

Are you all ready for another block?

More triangles today. (sorry) But I really love this block and I think they are worth it.

cut 4 squares 3 7/8" from 2 different coordinating fabrics, for a total of 8 squares.

cut 8 squares 3 7/8" from the background fabric.

draw a line with pencil on wrong side of the background fabric from one corner to the opposite corner.
pin 2 squares right sides together-one background fabric, one colored fabric.

sew 2 lines-each one 1/4" from the line that you drew.

cut apart on the line, press and you have 2 squares.
not so bad, right?
continue doing this technique with remaining squares, pairing a colored and a background fabric each time.
you should now have 16 squares.

layout as shown

sew your strips together

and your block is done!
it should measure about 12.5" square.

any questions about this block will be answered in the comments.
happy quilting!

beautiful - and you totally make it easy! LOVE that part.

Alack, my sewing machine went into the shop today - so at least I can start by cutting and pressing, right?

sigh.

I love the block. I will admit that when I first scrolled down to look at the picture, my groan was so loud that M came to see what I was looking at. Now, after reading the instructions, it doesn't look so bad.
Wish me luck! :-)

This was a fun block to sew. This quiltalong has become a Monday night ritual. I check out the new block online at work, rush home and start sewing! Great way to start the week.

ACK! I just completed the block, and I think my seams were too big, because my final block is a good 1.5 inches less in height/width than the other blocks. I might try this one again.

Okay, I am officially in the quilt along! My name is Amy and I just recently discovered your blog. I have the perfect bunch of fabric in my stash for this quilt and was hesitating joining for fear I wouldn't actually do it. I am happy to report that I cut the pieces for weeks 1 and 2 today and expect to piece them tonight! What fun, I'm already looking forward to the next blocks!

I joined late, then had to shop for the background fabric and get things washed and pressed. Last PM I cut out blocks 1-4. Today I sewed all of block 1 and love it. Also worked on block 2 with only 2 more seams to go. Tomorrow, I hope to do blocks 3-4. Wish I'd learned to quilt this way....1 block at a time!

Hello again! This block is a very beautiful one. Is it a LaMoyne Star? It would be nice if you tell the names of the various blocks. Do you want a weekly report with picture, or what? Hope you'll join me to your list! I'm looking forward to next week's block! Have a nice week.
Best wishes from a cold Sunday in Norway.
