meant to be
My mom loved to create things. She knit, crocheted, decorated and sewed. (She used A LOT of polyester, but hey, it was the 70's.) Anyway, my mom passed away in the early 80's when I was just a little girl. This awesome piece of fabric has been sitting in her cedar chest for about 25 years. A few years ago I asked my dad if I could have some of the fabric that was hers. He agreed, so I have been toting this piece around since then. The other night I decided to try my hand at skirt sewing. (Never mind that we just had our first few snow flurries of the season.) I didn't have to cut this piece of fabric a bit. I sewed it up the side. Hemmed the bottom. Sewed in a casing, added the elastic and sewed it up. It fits perfectly. Perfect length and everything.
I can't wait for summer so I can wear it.
My sweet, sweet boy said, "then when you wear it you can think of your mom."
Exactly.

That is great fabric - I guess we know where you got your good taste from. And a perfect title I think - meant to be.
Even better, when you wear it now you'll think of your mom and your sweet boy.

Isn't it fun when simple plans work so well? Cute skirt!
Looks great...love that polyester...that's about all we had back then! Everyone was sewing clothes with it, including moi.
meant to be indeed!
that is beautiful- I love the fabric.. and what a darling comment your little one made- so sweet!
My mom has been gone almost 10 years now and I have a little frame with "Daughter - You are loved for the little girl you were...the special woman you are now...and the wonderful daughter you will always be." I'm not sure anyone can fully understand what I feel when I read this. A couple of years ago someone who was close to my mom gave me the highest compliment I can think of and told a close friend of mine that I remind her very much of my mom. I still cry when I think of it.
Sorry to be so sappy, but I'm so glad you have something to remind you of your mother!
How wonderful that you have something this special to remind you of your mom.
The sweetest comment I have heard in ages. Funny how kids know what to say.

i love the skirt so much.
a very special skirt.
I have an old dress of my grandmother's, z"l that I'm waiting to use in a quilt or something, too - just a bit scared to take the old scissors to it....
Aww, that is too cool! Sometimes things are just meant to be, and sometimes kids surprise you with the things they think about and say. What a neat way to have a connection with your Mom and your son at the same time even though the two never got to meet. Hugs to you my friend!
It looks lovely! And what a wonderful story to be able to tell when someone compliments you on it!
Adorable skirt! And a great story to go with it.
The fabric is lovely, the cut is adorable, and the sentiment is so sweet. What a darling boy you have.
