#13
My friend Heather expressed some interest in quilting, so I jumped at the chance to teach another friend how to quilt. :) This was a joint project between Heather and I. She has a good friend that recently had a baby girl, and this is the quilt that we made for little Meah.
(Don't you love the little hands grabbing the quilt while I snapped the photo?)
The strips are cut 4" wide and random in length.
It is a crib size.
I did something other than my standard stippling for the quilting. (Not too much of a stretch, I realize....but still.)
And here is the back. I LOVE this fabric. I have had it stashed for quite some time already. Heather and I thought it made the perfect backing fabric for this sweet little quilt. And I have enough left to back a lap sized quilt, too.
About the title...this is my 13th completed quilt for the year. Hopefully more to come!

ooh, this is so pretty! I want to learn how to quilt but I'm not sure where to start. Have any good instruction books to recommend or maybe I should do your quilt along? I want to learn for 2008. This year I learned how to make jewelry, self-taught. Know any places to get fabric for cheap? What supplies do I need to get started? Hand-stitch or machine-stitch? Not sure what to do first.
It's beautiful! I love it!
Beautiful. What a gorgeous first quilt and the backing fabric is very lovely.
Had to chuckle about you pushing yourself to quilt this in something other than stippling. I love stippling and have been consciously working to broaden my machine quilting skills and you've inspired me with this whimsical style of stitiching. Must try this.
stunning my friend!! and how awesome of you to teach a friend how to do what you love. talk about sharing that creative spirit!!!!
Heather is a lucky girl, learning first hand from the expert! This is a gorgeous quilt, and I love the back too. It looks familiar, is it a Mill End purchase?
What a sweet quilt, and what a joy to be able to teach another the art of quilt making.
Ok crazy quilter, I have a burning question. Do you know how to get a ruffle onto the edge of my current quilt instead of a traditional binding?
The only thing I can marginally work out in my head is to sew the ruffle to the front of the quilt, make the quilt sandwich, do the quilting, then somehow fold down the back edge of the backing fabric and sew it to the ruffle like I would sew on the binding. Does that make any sense?
I hope you know a better way or I am in big trouble, LOL!
Wonderful you teach so many of us how to quilt! The quilt is lovely and I understand you love the back fabric with the gorgeous paisley pattern!
Holy cow, that is pretty pretty pretty!! I'm jealous! MAYBE some day I'll get up the nerve to try to make a quilt. Probably not.
Very, very nice! And a great way to bring someone new into the fold ;-).
Your right the polk-a-dots and paisleys complete the package! I love it!
The quilt is precious. How do you make your stippling? Do you freehand it on the quilt? I have been wanting to use this pattern on a quilt but it seems like an enormous amount of work.
Beautiful quilt. The baby and mama are very lucky.
Very sweet little quilt! Love it!
Another sweet looking quilt!
I'm behind on my blog reading. Looking over your posts for the last few weeks is like looking at a pretty quilt book! Your projects are all wonderful.
I am impressed! 13 quilts so far this year is pretty amazing:) I need to email you, I thought up some quilting questions I wanted to ask you... :)
AWE! So cute. I love the little hands in the picture too!
so lovely! :)
gorgeous!
Here's a big Shout Out for you and that beautiful quilt! Woo Hoo!
Keep those fingers stitching!
is this the same design as your "betty's quilt"? because we just moved and I realized that i have waaaaaaaaaaaay tooooo much fabric stash and i need to do something with it quickly....
I think quilts for Christmas would be appropriate. and this one looks like it would go together quickly.
any suggestions please feel free to email me fireflylanedesigns@yahoo.com
thanks julie
Another beautiful quilt! Thanks for sharing!
Someone either taught you to be generous or you are "paying it forward" with this lesson in quilting and giving. Good for you! This is a sweet one.
The backing fabric seems more than fitting...lol, the print looks a bit like little "swimmers" if you know what I mean?
Great job! I love the colors, and the back too! Cool non-stippling! Em
Hi,
I enjoy reading your blog, especially about your quilts. Perhaps you could do a tutorial on machine quilting. I would love to learn this technique; it really adds the perfect finishing touch to a quilt.
i love these strip quilts. yours is lovely!
How nice that you are helping another friend who had the quilting bug. What a cute quilt. I love that fabric you used for the backing. That picture with the little hands...too cute! Your blog is always fun to check out, very inspiring! Thanks for sharing with us.
Thirteen?? Wow! Well done! Yes, that backing fabric is lovely (so is the quilt!!) but I'm glad you still have leftovers.
Oh how cute! I love this little quilt... so simple, yet so charming! I might have to make my forthcoming granddaughter one similar to that. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for your blog. Love the backing fabric!

What a good friend you are! I love the backing too. I love paisley so that's no surprise.
This is so pretty! I just love the long strips. Love 'em!
Lucky Meah what a lovely quilt.
Lucky, lucky Heather! I wish I could get personal lessons from the quilt master, too! It's a beautiful project that you've completed.
What a beautiful quilt. Love the colours you have combined and the fabric you have used for the back is just...too much goodyness :-)
13 in a year? i am speechless!
lovely job!
i love that fabric on the back too!
Loved the baby quilt. Tonight I cut pieces for the quilt-a-long..enough to make 20 blocks.
Lovely stippling and I like the long strip design a lot. Looks like a fun one to execute!
