pincushions galore

The pincushion challenge is still on....25 days down, and still going strong! I will admit that some days I don't look forward to making yet another pincushion, but once I get started, I'm always glad that I did. Here are the most recent ones...

Day 20...
This pinwheel pincushion is made of solid scraps. (A few weeks ago I gave away all my little print scraps...so I've had to dig into the solids. It's been good!) I think it took more time to stage the photo than it did to make the pincushion, but sometimes that's how it goes! It is scrap project #166.

Day 21...
This one is a variation on day 7's pincushion. I thought it would be fun to throw another bowtie in the middle. I like it a lot! I called this one "dumpster diving" because I had my friends dig in their trash to rescue their cut off triangles. (The name credit totally goes to my friend Cindy...it was her genius idea.) It is tricky to line up 1" squares when you use Essex linen, but it was totally worth the trouble. It measures 4" square. It's scrap project #167.

Day 22...
More solid scraps...these are Lecien solids and they were great to work with! I LOVE the colors. This one reminds me of a beach towel. The stripes measure at about 1/2"! It's scrap project #168.

Day 23...
Fussy cut scissors are the star of this pincushion! I love that Cindy's scissors match the fabric perfectly. I might need to purchase a pair of those scissors just for photos. They are too cute! I love the simplicity of this one. It is scrap project #169.

Day 24...
I really (really!) like this one! It was inspired by the iconic Aurifil spool. Oddly enough, I quilted the spool with thread from Connecting Threads. Hahaha! I love the irony! It measures about 3" x 4 3/4". It's scrap project #170.

Day 25...
I went old school for this one....paper pieced pineapple block in red and white. I was afraid that I would ruin it with the quilting, but I think it turned out alright. It finishes at just under 4" square and it's scrap project #171.

Once again, thank you to all of you who have encouraged me along the way as I work toward my goal of making one pincushion a day in July. It's been a lot of fun! Only 6 more to go...

Do you have a favorite?

Love all the pincushions! Now that it's close to the end of the month, is it difficult coming up with new ideas?

I love ALL your pincushions, but I still especially love the long, skinny pincushion, 156, and also 160 with those tiny patchwork pieces!

PS And of course with a blog name like mine, I can't forget your fussy cut scissors, 169!

So many beautiful pincushions! You have inspired me to sew some more for friends, family and myself too - but I don't think I could make one a day. Congratulations on that!

I love day #24 (the spool). I have been thinking I should take up the challenge and this one is definitely on my list to make.

I have just loved all your adorable pincushions throughout the month. You are very creative and an excellent sewer and quilter. I like that you are not afraid to try something different. Thanks for all the inspiration.

I like the pineapple and the one with the scissors. What is that little wooden box?

My favorite is the spool pincushion. Thanks for all inspiration.

How can I possibly like just one?! I do love the quilting on your pineapple paper pieced (Day 25). You have convinced me to try this once 2017 arrives. What a great way to pass the cold wintry months! I think it will be a great way to practice FM quilting too. That will be part of my goal for the month of pin cushions. Thanks for all your inspiration! (It is fun to see them lined up on your Instagram page!)

I absolutely love all of the pin cushions you've made! I find them weirdly inspiring, perhaps it's all of the colourfulness. One day, I hope I can do something similar. But I'll need to work up a large stash/scraps pile first ;)

I have loved seeing all your pincushions. Please would you do a photo mosaic at the end showing off all 31 of them. (I guess it is too much to hope for tutorials for these?! Or a book?!) Thank you for such inspiration!

I am now driven to making pincushions as you have inspired me to get creative and just go for it. I love them all and just as soon as I have finished summer pruning the fruit trees away I will go. Thank you.

the Aurifil thread spool is so spot on...indeed my favorite of your pinnies this week. Partial to Pinwheels so that's a second fave.

Hard to pick a favorite - I like so many of them. The pinwheel in today's post is beautiful - love the colors. I made a bunch of pincushions last year after seeing yours. It was great fun.

Question for you - do you keep a journal of all your scrap projects?

I've been on vacation for the last 2 weeks. I had to go back and see all the pincushions I missed. They are all so cute. Can't just pick one of my favorites.

Once again, you've made the quilting world sit up and take notice with your super idea of a pincushion a day. That brain of yours works overtime to good effect. Every pincushion is tiny perfection. You're certainly going to have the sharpest pins in the US!

So adorable!
Is the Aurifil block a real pattern, or did you just make it up on the fly!?!
I just love it and would like to make a whole quilt of this block.
If you write a pattern, I'll buy it!
And also... I think these pincushions should be a book on their own!
The photos are gorgeous and the ideas are so fun!

I love the spool one because of its unique shape, but my favorite is the red and white pineapple block because of the quilting. Gorgeous!

I love all these adorable pin cushions that you are making. You should put all of your pin cushions together in a book. I know that I would buy it!

More cuties, Amanda Jean! I am totally blown away by how much you are getting done this summer--even if these pincushions are teeny tiny! And, oh, that adorable spool :)

The red and white pineapple pin cushion is beautiful.

Thanks for sharing these pin cushions. I have wanted to make some myself but keep putting it off. They are all so cute. I love the little triangles.

So hard to choose a favorite! I always enjoy all of your projects... You have such an eye for pattern and color. I love your red & white pineapple. Such tiny pieces and you truly aced the quilting!

T Smith said...

I think you need to write a booklet or pattern for these! Love every one of them.

Love the black and solid color pinwheel one and the red and white pineapple with the quilting is gorgeous! You've motivated me to start making pincushions again and miniature quilts. Yesterday I started with a tiny patchwork block for a pincushion and it was so cute that I made a few more. Now I'm going to do a mini quilt with the 6 blocks I made. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have two favorites - The spool and the red pineapple. I love the grid quilting!

I totally love the pineapple one. Wow.

They are all really fantastic, but I think the Aurifil thread one is my favorite. However, I'm really impressed with the pineapple! Those tiny pieces! I'm disappointed though that you're 30 days are over. I've enjoyed this so much. (And even made a few--but not cute ones like yours. They are more like the old-time utility quilts that my grandmother made. Haha)
