Have you ever rebound a quilt just because you found a better binding fabric in your stash?
I may have done something like that last week. (On a KING size quilt!)
Isn't it so much better?
I just LOVE red gingham bias binding. And I've found that I actually LIKE making bias binding. Doesn't sound quite right, does it? Oh, well, I guess I never claimed to be normal. :)
You can see the entire quilt here.

I agree, the new binding really frames out your quilt quite nicely!! Great work...
It is SO much better! I wonder, did you remove the old binding or just go right over it? I think I'd go right over it, but I'm lazy that way.
stephanie,
i did remove the old binding first. i really considered keeping it on, but i decided it would probably be too messy to try to cover it. i'm so glad i did!
aj
I can't imagine ME doing it, but it looks beautiful! So if I ever need a rebound, I know where to go!
Ahem. This comes under the heading of "you might be obsessed with quilting when .... " !!! You're too cute. And it does look fantastic!
I think the 'Crazy' in Crazy Mom Quilts suits you ;). I love the gingham binding MUCH better!
Between you an me - I like making the bias binding too!

It looks great! I love making bias binding too... the folding trick, cutting it and then unfolding the strips to see that they turned out perfect makes me happy every single time.
Jennifer :)
Yes, you OFFICIALLY have lived up to your name now!! Having said that, the new binding is PERFECT for the quilt. What is that movie quote? "You complete me"--that's what the gingham does for this quilt. It doesn't just finish it off. It enhances it.

The original binding was lovely; the new is spectacular.
I like them both..but I have to say my fav is your red gingham! Good EYE!
All the other quilts in the referred post - Gorgeous.
It IS beautiful, but it's a good reminder to choose your binding wisely the FIRST time around. Can't imagine undoing a KING size quilt binding!
You are amazing!
Jane
I think it looks great. But, really...Oh My!
Yup yup! Perfect change! And I love all your different bedding. I'm still working on getting ONE quilt completed for myself and my bed.
You completely validate that I'm not alone. . . my husband would call me cuckoocachoo for such a shift, but we know better:)
No! you silly girl! I actually like BOTH bindings! so either way...I guess it's just a matter of time...pun intended...
(i hope you understand this comment!:))
I like to feel that I am not alone. A quilt is a reflection of yourself and a piece of art, so why not?!? Good on you.
I do love it! It makes me think of strawberry jam in the summer. You make me want to redo my bed, with three different options, cause I get bored with the seasons!
It's amazing what a different binding does! They both look very nice...but I LOVE the red! It brings out all the bright red flowers in the quilt.
Your still my quilt hero...I love them both! I love to bind also!
That looks awesome! I have to admit that I have never rebound a quilt before, but now you have peaked my interest for sure : )
Love the new look!
Hugs,
Jen
Re-binding? That's just CRAZY! But it DOES look awesome!
Man, you should have saved that binding for a quilt for me! :)
I agree with Nancy from Philly. The original was nice, the new is spectacular! Great instincts!
Jo Anna
All 3 versions look amazing!
Yes, it does look better - I'll admit it! Still, that takes some serious guts. I'm a binding wimp myself.
It does look prettier. Good judgement call. But it sure wouldn't be something I would want to do!
It looks wonderful! I admire your patience ;-)
Oh my gosh, the new binding is so perfect, even though it looked fine with the other. I'm ashamed to say I probably wouldn't find the motivation to rebind it, though now I see what a huge difference the perfect binding can make.
Red gingham binding - I'm going to bookmark this for the future!
Your new choice of binding is great. It does justice to the quilt. Hugs
wow, I went back and checked out version 1 and 2 - all awesome. Bias binding - interesting.....
JUST LOVELY!
THANKS FOR SHARING!
Well worth the effort, it's gorgeous!
Definitely worth it, the new binding looks fabulous!
Sorry hun...I like the old binding better! The red (especially bias) looks good, but I loved the blue better.
Hope you still let me post on your blog! LOL
I can honestly say I've never had the desire to do this! But I can see why you changed it on this one - that new polka dot fabric rocks!
I love gingham binding on the bias!
This is one of those trick questions, right? I would have definitely wanted to change the binding, because yes-that red gingham rocks. However, I would have never actually done it. I would have felt too guilty wasting the original effort expended on the first binding :( I love that you did it though. It really makes the quilt and I can enjoy it vicariously through you. Although, I am still wondering if you re-purposed the original binding. It's sort of bugging me.
It changed the whole quilt's personality! Love it.
The new binding definitely makes the design even better, but would I have done it? I just recently stopped hating putting binding on, so....No.
I LOVE the new binding!! Good call!
Would you please post picture/instructions how you cut your bias binding. I am a young new quilter and want to learn how to do this.
Amanda
Oh my goodness the new binding is sooooooooooooooo good - bet it makes you feel like you have a new quilt, right? I love it & totally think I may well consider this in the future if I find something more perfect for one of mine xx
The red binding looks fantastic. I have to admit - I've never thought to change a binding - well you've really set the bar high! :) Great job!
You're very brave to rebind your quilt but it looks absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't mind sewing a new binding on but the idea of unpicking all that old one!!! It makes me shudder.
I think it was beautiful before but now it's stunningly beautiful. Funny what difference a binding can make
It looks fantastic!! I love the new binding!!! (And crazy or not, I can see myself doing that one day!)
Yes I love it....
Although I really liked the old binding, that gingham just makes the whole thing pop. Great catch!!
It was a great looking quilt before -- changing out the binding made it stupendous!! :)
Oh, much better choice but what a lot of work to rebind it!
I guess your blog title is true after all :) I do love it though...I might do it if it were smaller but I'm not sure about a king size. You're right, it looks perfect and frames it well.
I have never rebound a quilt BUT what a great change you made! i do love the gingham too! <3
There's an expression--good is the enemy of the best. I think the former was fine but with the red, the binding pops. Nice going!
That looks wonderful! I have a table runner that I made years ago and the binding makes it not lay flat (it was my first project and I wasn't using a walking foot and didn't have a clue about quilting). I've been wanting to make new binding for it but everyone keeps telling me not to. Thanks for twisting my arm! Now to find new fabric!
The new binding looks fabulous with the quilt. Not sure I would have rebound the quilt, but the results are so worth it!
Anything done in red, is great, when it is red CHECKS....even better. this is a gorgeous quilt!
I think you earned your name today! I can't imagine taking a good binding off and putting a new one on! No wonder your quilts are so wonderful!
Did you cut it or unpick it? That's the question!
The red DOES look so much better, though :)
The red looks awesome. I am afraid I would be too lazy to change a binding. Great choice.
The red gingham is so perfect! It really makes it pop, and I adore gingham, especially when it is cut on the bias!
This, Amanda Jean, is something I would never do, as much as I like to bind quilts.
Thankyou for sharing this anyway, because it is a choice that 'pops'
Okay. You have earned your blog name, lady. I love making bias binding too, but I can't imagine ever rebinding a quilt. But then you're not nearly as behind as I am, so that may have something to do with it. ;) It is very striking with the red.
I do like the new binding better, but I'm not sure I'd ever make the time to rebind a quilt myself. Instead, I'd probably spend my life thinking "Yep, should have used that red gingham instead" :) You are so wise to avoid such a future.
I love your gingham bias binding. Think I will try it on a quilt soon.
Judy
Ok, in my opinion, NOW you've earned your blog name. lol!
Looks beautiful!!.I admire you,
I don´t like rebund but the new look it`s just awesome.Well done!!
Your work is spectacular! The greatest thing about being a quilter is that you get to please yourself. But I defintely agree that the red binding gives that quilt pop!
Pattern and fabric line?
It does look fantastic with the new binding. I've never done that but I might consider it if the time comes along.
I started reading your post and was getting ready to call you INSANE for rebinding. However, um, yeah, it is super-adorable and transforms the look enough to make it worth the effort! Thanks for sharing - well done.
The first binding blended nicely, but this second one just accents it so well!
I have a quilt made from the same fabric line. You've tempted me to change my binding! I love it.
No I never have rebound a quilt. I am afraid if I started to "redo" quilts when I found funner fabric I would never be able to start a new quilt. Love the red gingham though.
WOW!! What a difference binding makes! The quilt is gorgeous and you now have a "new" quilt! Win-win!!
the change in binding is completely perfect, but there is no flippin' way i'd do it. well, unless the quilt was for my bed. i don't mind making the binding, but the hand sewing does my wrist and thumbs in, so i have to be picky the first time :)
Good move! Love the red. My other favorite is black with small white polka dots.
I have a quilt that I need to finish the binding on. I just can't bring myself to finish it. It's because I don't really like it. I've been convincing myself to just suck it up and live with it. Thank goodness you just gave me permission to change it! lol That will be my next step. I'm sure that my family will think I'm insane. However, it's not as bad as ripping out the quilting you don't like, right?
OH! It just wakes the quilt up! Well worth the work!
binding makes SUCH a difference... and I agree - it's super fun to make!
You really are a bit crazy ;-)
Wow!!!
I loved the old binding but ZING! The new binding is delicious!!! I'm going to have to remember this...before I put on the binding!!!
I admire your tenacity!!!
Yep, I have totally done that. Thankfully, it was a wall hanging - not KING sized, but I loved the result soooo much better.
T
Wow I can't say I have ever done that :) But I have to admit it looks like it was worth it :)
Cool example of how much the binding can change the look of a quilt! Can't believe you took off the finished binding, though! I'm glad I'm not the only one who prefers bias binding, even on straight edged. I usually use stripes, but gingham is a great idea!
