fancy block friday

I've have been thinking of incorporating a ladder pattern into a quilt for years now. Since I wasn't quite sure what to piece this week for my fancy block Friday challenge, a ladder it is! This block could easily be pieced improvisationally, but I love the precise results that come from paper piecing. The block will finish at 8" square. I have a stack of blue/aqua/purple/green fat quarters (purchased from Connecting Threads) that I plan to use to make more of these lovely blocks. And so another WIP is born.....
On the flip side, I did finish this quilt top this week. It measures 44" x 53". I blogged a bit about the process here. I love how it came together! The red and white polka dots are a fun addition to the quilt. But then again, you really can not go wrong with red and white polka dots, if you ask me! Since I need another quilt like I need a hole in the head, I'm pretty sure that this top will be headed to MHC.

Happy Friday!

I'm a red and white polka dot fan myself. It just makes a lot of projects pop.
I love your quilt top.

I have always wanted to make a snakes and ladders quilt - but hadn't quite figured out how the heck I'd manage it. Shoulda known the lady genius (oh, that's you in case you hadn't figured it out) would whip up a perfect little ladder. Very very very cool.

Fun stuff. I like the ladder block but would not be interested in the extra effort to make it. By the way, red polka dots are awesome. We should do something like making matching red polka dot skirts for all the girls in the family, or maybe just little A and M.

I love it when two completely different projects come together - who would have thought of combining blue & white blocks with multicoloured sashing like that - but doesn't it work beautifully. Pat on the back time!

Love the ladder idea. I can see it as everyother block in an I Spy quilt. You could play a game... how to get to the giraffe without going to the toaster. Sounds like fun to me. But then I'm a grandma, I'm used to the low tech childhood. Not really a reality anymore, is it?

The ladder looks terrific. Can't wait to see what you'll come up with for a layout.

I don't think I've ever made a quilt that did not include polka dot fabrics :)

I can't wait to see where those ladders take you!

I like it! How thick are the rungs and sides of the ladder? So busy here for me! Can't wait for Wednesday night!
