I did a few practice doodles before starting on the real quilt. I usually practice with fabric that is not pieced, but recently, I have discovered that I like to try a new quilting technique on a pieced block because it is a more realistic test with the seams to quilt over. Plus, it's my new solution to using up those pesky orphan blocks.
I really really LOVE these quilted flowers! It's a twin size, so it's taking awhile, but I'm very happy with the results.
Also...Emily, who is amazingly sweet, has recruited several women to make me 9 patches for my 3rd quilt (for my other sister) since I was experiencing 9 patch burn out. I have received several blocks (plus extra squares for the borders!) from different ladies across the country and Canada.
Thank you so much, ladies, for your generosity and for helping me get started on my 3rd 9 patch quilt!!! I'm excited that each of my sisters and I will have "matching" quilts. Yipee!
Happy Monday to you!

I love the flowers, they look amazing! I don't think I have ever used solid white in a quilt but lately I am really liking the look of solids.
Your flowers are incredible!!! Someday, I'll learn how to do that.... Someday. Sigh.
But seriously, those flowers are incredible!!
Great quilting - it looks so good on the back, too. You are talented, indeed!
You must be pretty popular for people to send you 9 patch blocks! I am glad that you are getting help!
i am so glad that i could contribute. i am sure it was getting a little old to keep doing the same thing. that is one of mine right on the top..pink florals and blue.
How Sweet! That's awesome Amanda Jean. Love that cool flower quilting!
Uh, oh...I forgot to send the extra squares for the border. Will get them in the mail. LOVE your flowers!
Your quilting is stunning.
So THAT's your idea of a doodle?
Sigh!!
Great job on the quilting...it is really nice.
I would send you some of my 9-patches - but, I am still cutting them out...and I think I'm going to need them...I want to make this quilt!!!
I will begin it after the first of the year...
I love the flower quilting...reminds me of a zinnia.
I love those flowers, too! So how do you deal with the start and end of each thread? Backstitch, tie?
Your quilting looks beautiful!
I love those quilted flowers!!! They look awesome! I shall have to try them sometime!!
How givung those gals were with the 9-Ps... good for them and good for you! 8-)
Love your quilting. You are quite good! Can't wait to see it finished
Love love those flowers! I really need to branch out and try new designs, especially "real" shapes/pictures like that! Do you end up connecting them, or do you pick up and move it when each flower is done?
A lot of quilting goin on over there!! The flowers are wonderful!
That's so sweet of people to send you 9-patches. I actually just finished binding my first one, and I just have to do the sashing on the second one -- it's half done. I don't know about a third one. Maybe that one will be all scrappy. #1 is patriotic (of course), #2 is Christmas. #3 may not even see the light of day. I am kind of with you on the burnout. I love your flowers. They are much more involved than anything I've done. They are turning out beautifully (of course!).

I love the flower quilting! Gorgeous.
I LOVE those flowers. I am literally drooling. I understand your burnout, I did the same thing to myself by making log cabin lap quilts as wedding gifts but too many of my friends got married close together.
You have way more patience than I do. I can't imagine all of those flowers but the result is beautiful! I guess you take it petal by petal. :-)
Love the flowery quilting!
Where did you get the flower pattern? Is that your own?
beautiful quilting!
how very fun for you guys and the flower quilting!! WOW! Fantastic!!
Love, love, love that quilting! I printed out the page so I can try it on my own. Thanks for sharing.
The quilting looks just beautiful!! Don't you just love trying something and adore the results?
I love the white on white quilting, too, and that flower shape you're doing is magnificent.
Yaay! I see my blocks in the bottom photo!! So happy you can make use of my blocks!! Have fun :)
Love the flowers - they look great! I'm getting ready to do some holly and berries on a table runner - I practiced and I think it will be fun!
those flowers are amazing! I can barely stipple...
and how nice to have people share with you some nine patch squares! :)
Your flowers are terrific! I was happy to send you a few blocks--did you get enough to make the entire top?
You are truly an inspiration :)
Wow, that looks amazing! I love the flower quilting! Did you use a pattern or just doodle it?
Gorgeous . . . I think I'll have to try!
The quilted flowers are just brilliant!!! So lovely!
Those quilted flowers are so beautiful...wonderful job! I have been wanting to practice feathers and was thinking the same thing about the orphan blocks. A good way to practice and possibly crank out some mini-Christmas gifts too! :)
The flowers look great - I would love to try that out. It would be terrific if you could post a little something on how you do that, particularly on whether you join from one flower to the next, or do you stop and start another and snip the threads? Thanks for your inspiring quilts!
Holy crap, that is some sweet quilting! Woo hoo for you!
Love the flowers! I clicked on the picture to make it larger and traced it with my mouse....
That flower quilting is beautiful! Is that all freehand?
The quilting is amazing!! I love it!! I would say I may attempt it someday...but I don't know if I will ever have enough experience to try that myself!!
Loving the flower quilting! Makes me want to go practice my quilting.
love your flowers and your blocks!! i have a weard (or funny?)history with my nine patch quilt (who is unfinish yet)... i hope work on it again soon...
Don't you just love it when a
'quilty' plan comes together!!!
wow i really like that quilting. don't mind if i snatch that idea up and try it myself do ya? Thanks!
Love the flower quilting. It looks fantastic!!!
The flower stitching looks really fabulous! I love to see what you're making, I really love your quilting.
the flower quilting is just gorgeous! it's so nice to have a change every once in a while, isn't it?
your chrysanthemum quilting is gorgeous! I'm hoping to finally start quilting my nine patch this week (I'm still working on my first quilt)
Looks beautiful - I'm sure it's fun to try a new quilting pattern!
I am glad that I am going to get a matching quilt! YOU are a great sister.
Looks great - the flowers are so pretty!
I purchased some charm squares awhile back and am now starting to think about putting them into a quilt. Do you happen to know how many I'd need to make a twin size quilt if I'm just going to sew them together patchwork-style?
Thanks!
I love the quilted flowers. They look great!
Thanks for the inspiration! My nine patch quilt is in rows and I'm going to add the long sashing pieces this week. With 110 blocks it almost counts as two quilts (right?) I'm using an ikea sheet (and have never sashed before) and love the results.
I'm not brave enough to try those flowers, but mine will get a meandering quilting pattern sooner rather than later.
Love the quilt - the quilting is just fabulous.
your quilting looks great!! ..nice plan for the orphan blocks too.. and you can make them into pot holders or mini quilts!
you're really stepping out on the quilting!!
How do you do those amazing flowers...please tutor us!
I've been quilting for years and years, and still love the charm of the nine patch! Great quilt.
Those flowers are amazing. I LOVE them!
that quilting is so amazing! i love it!
The quilted flowers are delicious! Your quilt is looking spectacular.
Ooh I love the quilted flowers. Hopefully I can try that on a baby quilt I'll be making after the new year.
