Today's the day! I fly out to Colorado for the retreat this evening. I've worked very hard over the past month and a half getting samples ready and preparing for my classes, so I think I'm ready. I'm quite excited!! Be prepared for quilt overload when I get back. :)
After looking at the stack, I DO use a lot of white in my quilts. Oh, my.

Can't wait to see you!
How often do you teach at retreats? I live in Indiana - do you ever come down here or nearby - Ohio/Illinois?
For scrapbooking, I read that "white space" is a very good thing- gives the eye some place to rest between going from one thing to another- I iamagine that applies to quilts, too. And they highly recommend that you do some lay-outs with lots of white.
Good luck!! I hope you have a great time and meet other great quilters!
Have a good time! I truly wish I were going...YOU WILL BE GREAT!
Have fun! That's quite a beautiful stack you've got going there!
white is wonderful-don't let anyone tell you otherwise! have a great time! come back to blogland refreshed!!!
There are few things better than a quilt retreat. Have a great time.
What a stack of yummy quilt-y goodness! and I love the white ... its those wonderful Ikea sheets that you told us all about.
Yeah! Have a great time. If I still lived in Colorado, I would definitely have signed up for your class.
It looks wonderfull. Have a good time!
Love the orange too. I've kinda got a thing for orange these days.
Good luck! Have a great trip!!
I also use a lot of white. On my first queen size quilt, I used white for the backing and my mom said "people don't do that".
I hope someday I have a beautiful stack of quilts like this!!! :)
That is one gorgeous stack of quilts...love the white! I've discovered I need the open spaces in my quilts...and the white seems to provide that perfectly!
Have fun and safe travels!
So exciting! Wish I was joining you. Have a fabulous time and don't leave out any details when you tell us all about it.
Happy sewing!

I like the white in the quilts! I'm about to use white in my first "white" quilt.
I just want to jump on your stack and snuggle all day long! :)
Have fun!! Love seeing that stack of beautiful in one spot :)
You just noticed that, huh? I love your quilts; they look really fresh and bright. I use very little white in my quilts so it is nice to see how different they can turn out.
Can't wait to see the stack (and you, too!) in person, I leave in the morning!
Holy cow, woman! That's a lot of quilts! Looking forward to seeing you this evening! Feel free to call me if you have any questions!
That's exactly the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw that stack - "She uses a lot of white!" BEAUTIFUL QUILTS!

Ooooh! Have a fantastic time! And maybe when you get back you could enlighten us on how you get so many quilts done!!!
Have a great trip.
Have fun.
You use white because it looks good with those crisp colors. If you were a Thimbleberries gal you would probably use something different.
It's okay to use white - you're probably using my sharel I almost never use it. I prefer cream or darker solids.
Breathe and enjoy your classes - you will do great!!
Enjoy the weekend! I know that you are going to be a fabulous teacher...wish I could have come.
Oh, good luck!!! You're going to do great. And I look forward to quilt overload when you get back--I can't wait!!
Those are very lucky participants to see and meet such inspiration in person!

Wishing you a weekend of wonderful experiences, safe travels to and from, peace of mind that everything and everyone at home is well, and a blank journal to bring home lots of ideas for more quilts and sewing experiences.

Oh what a great stack of quilts! Make me feel the way kids do when they see a pile of raked up leafs.. I just want to run and jump into your stack ;)
Have a great trip in CO. and OH - one more thing - I made a doll quilt from your ticker tape tutorial over the weekend and posted it over on my blog - it's done up in all pinks ;) and very girly...
My 5 year old has insisted we make one for "each" of her dolls!!! :) I'm so glad she likes it. It was fun! and fast! ;)
Thanks and Love from Texas! ~bonnie
You say white like it's a bad thing! I think the white really makes the colors pop, and I would never have thought to use it before. I tend to always use a color that matches the entire quilt. Can't wait to see all the quilty goodness!
that is a gorgeous stack of quilts!
Good luck and have fun. I love white in quilts - your look fantastic stacked up like that.
What a beautiful stack of quilts it is - have a great time away and then enjoy a feast on your return.
Love the white!!!! Have a great time at the retreat.
The quilt stack looks just gorgeous - very photo worthy - love the white too, makes the colours more colourful :)
Maybe next time you get away you can come HERE. Have a safe and relaxing trip. Enjoy Colorado...I haven't been there since the last time I drove home from CA (with the Brown Beauty and no AC).
love the white in your quilts!! Wish I was going to be at the retreat === sounds like fun.
Oh such a shame Australia is sooo far away or I would be there with bells on.
I think the white makes your quilt sing and makes them very pleasing to the eye.
Love your blog

I think your pile is gorgeous. What was that book called--something about "do what you love and fame will follow". White works for you. Have fun at the retreat! Getting overload could be a lot of fun! A-

Amandajean,
your stack of quilts is AMAZING!!!
The range in sizes...just shows your versatility... (they're not all the same size =comfort zone)
I am always so-o-o disappointed when you don't have a new post each day...
....perhaps i'm addicted??

It looks great! Good luck!!
Have a wonderful time. Jealous? Moi?! xx
doesn't matter whether you use a lot of white or not... your work is just amazing!
Enjoy
There are 82 comments before mine, so I'm sure it will blend in with theirs. I have been inspired with your use of white and open spaces on the fronts and backs of your quilts. I also love the modern sensibility of your designs. What class are you teaching?
I am SO JEALOUS! I asked for your retreat as my bday gift when you first announced it (my bday is Sunday). Since I'm not flying out anywhere, apparently I didn't get it :-( I did get EQ6 though, from my dad so I can't wait to dig into it. HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!! I can't wait to see the results and TONS of pics!
I've been thinking about you all week in anticipation of this. I hope you have a wonderful retreat, rock your workshops, and enjoy some time to yourself. You're going to be amazing.
Have a wonderful time. Those people are lucky to get some of your time.
Your pile of quilts looks shit. I have seen loads of those at Ikea on offer and always wondered about the people who are obsessed with them. Reading this blog and all the comments has cleared up a lot for me.
Good luck. Have fun!!! Your quilts are beautiful. You will be a hit at the retreat. Wish I was there!!!Bonnie in Tx.
I heard you were coming to CO and looked you up in blog land. Love your stuff, have fun at this weekend, you are quilting with some fine quilters.
Have a great trip Amanda! You are one lucky girl :)
Wow, can't wait to see what each of those looks like unfolded! =)
Can't wait for Quilt Overload, when you get back!! I've been on vacation and haven't been checking your blog...have missed it!
Looks great! Enjoy yourself.
They look wonderful have a safe and fun trip.
I'm glad you pointed out all the white ... it explains perfectly why your quilts ae so restful.
Amanda Jean...you should publish your own book!!! A gal I met at quilt market..paid $1.25 a book...sold then for $6.25 wholesale...I think that is what Gudrun does and Heather Mulder Peterson...
I don't know if people do this to you often (and I'm aware it's a little crazy), but I've had a certain fabric on my mind for a while.
Can't remember who makes it or anything, but it's the blue square on your gray quilt, at the top of this beautiful stack!
Could you point me in the right direction, if you can even remember where you got it?
Thanks! -Mamalia
Wow!!! That's a good news. Good luck and enjoy!!!
Those are stunning. White color is cool and for me I can have a peaceful mind while looking to light colors especially those white ones. Keep posting more of your work. Have a nice day!
