circle time
Well, here is my circle quilt. I chose to attach the circles to a plain white background...no piecing! The circles are attached with a zig zag stitch and the edges are left raw. I'm loving the two pink borders...not sure about the pieced borders on the sides. I'm mulling it over. They may stay, they may go.
This quilt is made up of half a sheet, two charm packs and about 1/4 yard of fabric. All from my stash. It measures 48" x 62". It feels SO good to make something smaller than a twin size quilt.

i say no to the pieced sides.
i love love love the pink border.
I vote for the pieced border; but then, I am personally addicted to pieced borders and believe they can do no wrong. E.V.E.R
P.S. - way to line up on a blank sheet, totally wish I could pull that off!
Maybe you could make three of those quilts for us girls. :)
I love the pieced border! This quilt top is way cool!
LOVE IT! Keep it how it is ... and then send it to me! I promise I'll take good care of it! {haha ... kidding}
I love your circle quilt - keep the pieced border!
I too, think you should keep the pieced border. It is beautiful the way it is.
This is fantastic! I just love it. I like the pieced borders, too. Very nice!
I think the pieced border is great!!!
I am also digging the pieced border- it anchors it somehow. Can't wait to see how it looks quilted!
I LOVE that quilt! I really like the pieced border, but the pink is nice too!
So when you zig zag the circles onto the sheet, do you use anything like a light wonder under to keep it in place or just pin it?
Thanks for sharing your talent! You inspire me....
Love the pieced borders!
I love the quilt with the pieced borders. I am wowed with your circles though. They are soooo straight.
Very cute, love the circles. What a great way to show off the fabric. Clean and simple, yet it has lots of interest for the eye.
p.s. i like the pieced border
I think the pieced borders detract from the circles. Lovin' the pink! Gail
What about pink borders and pieced binding?
Gail,again
Oh, my....those patchwork circles are glorious! I love how you pieced it. I say, keep it the way it is. Amandajean, you are an original!
This is fabulous! Question: How in the world did you get your circles to line up, and stay even without piecing? I am amazed!
I adore the pieced borders!!!! I love this quilt!
I like the pieced borders. You might try adding a second border -- maybe more white? -- around the outside and see if that changes your opinion of the pieced border section.
I love it! I like the pieced borders too:-)
How on earth did you make the circles line up so perfect?? I'm jealous! Lol
LOVE those colors. I actually really like those borders, but I can see the solid pink will make the quilt softer if it is for a baby girl.
Fantastic top! I really like the pieced border!
Love it!! Great job! Can't wait to see how you quilt it!
I love the circles. I have some die cut circles just waiting for a project.
I love the circles and I absolutely adore the pieced borders.
Wow! So effective! I think that the pieced border looks great... love it just how you have it!
I prefer the pieced border! Looks great!!
I was JUST thinking that I wanted to make a circles quilt on a single unpieced background and there you put up a new post! It looks fantastic. I personally really like how the pieced border looks with the circles. The pink looks too plain and doesn't seem to hold the quilt together on its own. Just my 2c!
the pieced border is great! yes...it's sure faster to make those quilts a little bit smaller. This one is beautiful!
Pink borders and pieced binding. I like the pink on the borders. I am so impressed with this quilt, and all the others too.
QMM
So cute! I'm sure it is going to be adorable however you decide to finish it :)
LOVE it!
Love the pieced border, it finishes it off well, all pale borders would lose the effect of the bold colours. I love it.
Such a fun quilt, and it sounds like a pretty simple project. I personally love the pieced borders, but I think it'll look great either way!
Just a question...what kind of sheets do you use? And did you cut the sheet? I am new to all of this stuff, and love your quilts!
Love the pieced border, leave it as it is. It has good balance with the spacing of the circles. And the color keeps you visually centered on the quilt. Love how it shows off the great fabrics on those circles! let see one with a RED background!
Nice job AJ!
I like the pieced borders, but if you take them out I would use either a green or teal.
looks awesome and I personally love the pieced border it just ties it all in somehow, if you are not sure about it how about adding another pink border on the out side of pieced border? just a though :D
Are we helping you decide because I happen to like the solid pink border. Helps the circles stand out more. And I'm really digging the circles. I won some circles already to go in a giveaway. I may have to make me one of these. My problem is making the zig zag stitch a nice circle. Mine tends to be jagged if I'm going around curves. How do you do it?
I love it, and the pieced borders are great.
very pretty. i love the circles...but they scare me!!
I love pieced borders on a quilt and this one is no different.
I ditto all the peeps who voted for pink sashing and pieced binding!:) I have never tried to bind with pieces that small, I wonder how hard that would be, guess as long as you iron it well there shouldn't be an issue but I don't know for sure. You ever done it with pieces that small?
I was also wondering how you keep the circles from jigging and jagging while you zz them?
Ok-- That's it-- That is my absolute favorite quilt!!!! I.LOVE.THE.PIECED.BORDER!!!!
I love this. I especially love the pieced border!!! Great idea!!
That is a lovely quilt, even the pieced border...
I love your circles, I will keep this in mind for some vintage sheets that I have that I think will look fantastic.
My instant first thought was - love the pieced borders. Gorgeous!
I am in the minority but adore the pink border! I think the pieced binding with that would be beautiful.
Absolutely lovely. Wonderful job. I'm leaning towards a simple pink border. You have once again inspired me. Now where's a CD?
Very nice!!!
My "vote' is for the pieced border.., but you already know I like that!:D
I had considered doing mine on long strips, but wouldn't have tried the whole thing as one cloth-I think the smaller blocks makes it easier to turn the block as I zig zag.
Let me know if you came up with any other tricks I should add to my tutorial!
I love the pieced borders, and would love to see it all around the whole quilt. The pink is very pretty also.
I vote pink borders, pieced binding! love it!
so fun! I love the pieced border - but do what you love above all :)
Tehre seems to be a real mix of whether or not to keep the pieced borders...
My vote is that they go and you use the pink x Great quilt either way!
Love the pieced border...the pink it too timid...looks like an afterthought...it's the weak point of the quilt.
If you are taking a vote I vote FOR the pieced borders. They make it look so homey and inviting. With the white between the circles and the borders, it finishes it off nicely. How will you be quiltig it? Fantastic how you were able to place perfectly the circles, btw. Very pleasant and fun quilt, IMHO.
I love the pieced border. I think you should do one or the other, not both. I also love the circles!
So lovely!
I love the pink borders and the pieced borders. I love that they are different.
Love this and the pieced border is my favorite part about the whole quilt!
I've been thinking about a circle quilt, this method seems quick. I love how it's come out. You'll figure out the borders.
I like the pieced sides!!!
No pink!Please!!
Like so many before me-I love the pieced border!!! Such a fun quilt! A-
Lovely lovely just so lovely!!!
Looks great. I like the pieced borders at the side.
I vote no on the pieced border... I love it but I love the solid pink more :) I adore the circles and can't wait to try something like this!!
I love the pieced border - it's what caught my eye first.
Loving the circles! I'd say either go all pink or all pieced for the border - either would be fantastic!
I am always amazed at just how much you can get done!! I am jealous!
It's a beautiful quilt - of course! I think that whatever you do with the borders will be great but if you are soliciting opinions, I think it will be more balanced if you choose either pieced or solid pink frame the circles.
Very, Very Cute CrazyMom!!!
LOVE the pieced borders!!
Beautiful quilt as always!!! Your fabrics are gorgeous. I like the fact that there is no piecing involved. I'm in the process of making my daughter a similar one using a diamond template. I have cut them with a pinking rotary cutter and plan to stitch along the inside. Do you think the pinking will prevent raveling? Haven't tried yet. I figure even if it does ravel, that's a fun look too.
I love this fabric collection and the pieced borders. Beautiful.

I like both borders, but not together. But it isn't my quilt.
i love the pieced sides.
Funny how different the opinions are about the borders. Personally, I like them. But I like a bolder look. But it depends on what you want.
I was wondering if you ever go to the Quilt Festival in Houston, TX. I am going and thought it would be so good to meet you. I love reading your blog. You got me sewing again! Lisa~
I love this quilt, and I really like the pieced boarders. I am always amazed by how many beautiful quilts you seem to finish in such a sort time!
I love all your quilts, but it drives me crazy how fast you turn them out!!! I work and work and work on mine and it takes me forever to finish just one!
Good job on this one and all your quilts.
I have a quilting blog now - www.angelscrapsquilting.blogspot.com. Please visit.

I love this quilt! I have a stack of circles just waiting to be quilted. Personally, I love the pieced border. I think it really makes the quilt pop. I'd make all of the border pieced - maybe bind with the pink?
A few questions - what type of sheet did you use? Is this more of the Ikea sheet? How did you get your circles so perfectly lined up? Did you just pin them or did you use some sort of fusible webbing?
Great job as always!!
Keep the pieced borders! It looks great!
I love the look of the circles--simple and charming. Reminds me of Twister.
My 2 cents:
Use the pieced borders in the back instead.
Love the idea of no piecing in the main part of the quilt.
I love it just the way it is...I think it would become too boring if you put a solid border in place of the pieced one. This way it has character, and more color :) But that's just my opinion. It's so cute :)
I love the pieced borders! It was the second thing I said to myself after I saw the photo. First, was "ohh I love those circles," second, "ahh, I love the pieced borders."
Love it! I am in the middle of a circle quilt right now too ... i may skip the piecing in the middle too ... and even go for randomly placed circles, but we'll see if it happens. I love the pieced borders, but would be curious to see it with just the pink ... could go either way.
I love the side borders. Don't take them off! I didn't even notice the pink ones at first because the side ones were so cute. I really like this quilt.
If it were me, I would replace the pink border with a pieced one to match then put a pink one all around the outside. Looks fabulous no matter what you choose to do. You always do great work! Very inspiring!
beautiful... the pink border seems to be overwhelmed by the pieced border though. I'm just in awe of your work.
By the way. If you did zig zag stitch on the circles, does that mean you have cheated on your juki? ;-)
spartan girl,
yes, this is more of the IKEA sheet. :) i'll cover the rest of the questions in a later post.

I know this a personal opinion, but I like the pieced border, but lose the solid pink,. But again I love anything you quilt. A
I agree with most of the comment I love the pieced border. You have inspired me to make a circle quilt mine will be crazy pieced circles from Kaffe Fassett scraps I am really excited to start it but I have too much to finich for CHristmas first...
what if you scallopped the edges of the white? and maybe the pieced borders too.....or you could just add them as a strip across the back. But really I know nothing, I've yet to finish my first quilt...the whole quilting part is intimadating!
Our quilt group has had a lot of discussion about using sheets- our professional long armer in the group says No Sheets! She said the thread count causes problems with skipped stitches, etc. Others in our group have had problems with sheets too. I'd love to hear your feedback.
Love the circles but think the piano border takes away from enjoying the movement of the circles.....makes it too busy. The bright colors on the white background make it so crisp and clean looking. Love the soft pink border to frame it or no border with a pink binding would be lovely too.
Happy Sewing
i love the pieced border, it's beautiful...BUT... i think for THIS quilt, it disturbs the circles... the pink is perfect, and enhances the 'art' of the circles..
either way - as always you do such a lovely job..
and always.... i'm grateful for your sharing!!
xo
eva
It is so beautiful. I love the pieced borders.
sallgood,
i am just beginning to use sheets as sashing. i have quilted and washed/dried a sample quilt with it as sashing and it was wonderful. i don't use a long arm quliter, i quilt my own, so that isn't an issue for me.

Wait a minute... wasn't it just like three days ago that you posted the photo of the circles freshly cut out? And now they're a quilt?!? You are no joke... no joke!
hello Amanda Jean,
I love your quilts and am constantly awed by your productivity. I particularly love this quilt! I had a thought though that if you were to design this quilt like you do your backs (which I also really love) then you might cut the bottom two rows of circles free from the rest and insert one of those beautiful pieces borders right through the circles there. Then perhaps the pink could be continued all the way around. It is just a thought but by the time I have this posted You will probably have it already stippled!! Keep up the beautiful work and thanks for sharing!!
What nice zigzag stitches you have, Amanda... : )
I vote for a plain border. The pieced border makes it too busy and takes away the attention from the circles which are a wonderful idea.
I love it!
This is adorable! I love the pieced border how it is.
The pink border is much much better, the pieced is toooo busy.
