Welcome to week 13 of the quilt along! This is the last star-we made it!! It's been fun for me to watch the quilts come together in different color schemes with out all the work of doing it myself. :)
For this week's star:
cut one square 5 1/4" from the background fabric
cut it in half on the diagonal, twice, to make 4 quarter square triangles
cut 4 squares 4 1/2" from the background fabric
cut two squares 5 1/4" one from a medium and one from a dark fabric
cut each of those on the diagonal, twice, to make 4 quarter square triangles
cut 2 squares 4 7/8" one from the medium and one from the dark fabric
cut each square in half on the diagonal once, to make half square triangles
layout as shown
there is a great tip here for sewing the triangles to the corner square
sew together
and square up to 12.5".
Isn't this a great block? I think it's one of my favorites. (Do I say that every week?)
Thanks, as always, for quilting along with me.

I am not currently working on the quilt along but I just have to say that this is my favorite star yet! I don't know what it is about it but I just love it. I am just starting to quilt so this may sound like a stupid question but do you ever make an entire quilt with just one star design or are you "supposed" to mix and match many designs? I'm just wondering if it would look weird only having one repeating pattern?
Thanks as always. I think I've said this about 10 times now, but I am going to get caught up this week. I love this star too...next to the one with the pinwheel in the center (which I haven't done, yet). So, what are you working on?
kristy,
when quilting, it's best to throw out the phrase "supposed to". :) you can make a quilt any way you wish. this one that we are working on is a sampler quilt, so there are many different blocks (stars) with alternate setting blocks (the blocks with squares). if one wanted to, one could make the entire quilt from just one block, or 2 different ones and alternating them throughout the entire quilt...the possiblilities are endless.

AmandaJean, that's a gorgeous block. Do you have any idea what it's called? - I do think you could make a pretty quilt out of it alone!
Oh, so pretty!! I totally need to try a star quilt. Or maybe just some star pillows...
This is a pretty block and I look forward to sewing it up tomorrow. At present, it's cut out and pieces set in place. I'd be interested in it's name also. Or, maybe we could call it Lucky 13.
I can't wait to get started on mine. Just waiting until after our vacation next week before I begin. So what's the next quilt along? Do you have one in the works for us?
Love this block Amandajean. Block 13, how time flies!
It is cute! Thank you.
I am relieved! I thought last week was the last week and that I was going to have to start putting it together but I haven't finished the sashing blocks. Now I am not worried because I have this week to finish them
Here are my latest 2:

My quilt top is together & I had just enough background fabric by not using the sashing. Will take photo soon for my blog. Thank you again, Amandajean. All your hard work is very much appreciated! This has been fun!
I am so far behind. I only have finished up to block 7. But I am going to keep trucking along.
I can't believe we're already to block 13. I'll be getting this star finished up in the next 2 days and then will work on getting it together after vacation, which starts tomorrow--yipeeeeeeee!!!
Thanks a ton for taking us all along on this journey with you. I'm looking forward to your next QAL;)
Done! Woohoo! Now we just have to assemble everything.
I'm really likin' that block! I've not seen it before. I'm also thinking that if you used a medium / large scale print, it could be done all with Y-seams. It would be tedious, but I think it would be worth it, especially if you're just doing one or two blocks that way!
Thank you SO much Amanda for all your work in putting this together. I am going to try to complete your first quilt along before you start the next one!

I have never seen this star before. It is indeed a favorite!!
this quilt block is called right hand of friendship.
Amandajean, thanks for adding the name of block #13. Got mine finished and posted on my blog. Now I can go back and add it's name. Thanks again, for everything!
Ugh! I am so far behind! I think I'll be able to get caught up once my daughter starts school next week... I hope so anyway!
I just finished this block up last night and I can see why you saved it for last. It was TRICKY!! Very, very stretchy, and the diagonal row piecing took some thought. Glad I made it through it one try with no ripped seams, though! Block 12 is all cut and laid out but just needs to be pieced. Hope to have pics up soon. I can see the finish line! : )
Oh, I love this block!
this is adorable! I love the off-centered ness of it!
Thanks so much for the quilt along. I have only just started quilting, and it has been so inspiring to watch your progress (and those participating). I think I'll be going back through your instructions to make one of these as my own private quilt along!
Just wanted to comment again and say that I finished up Block 13 and am sewing my sashing to the blocks right now! Thanks again Amanda!
