Welcome to week 12 of the quilt along! For this week's block...
cut one square 7 1/4" from the background fabric
cut it in half on the diagonal twice to make quarter square triangles
cut 2 squares 3 1/2" from the background fabric
cut 6 squares 3 1/2" from a medium fabric
cut 4 squares 3 7/8" from a dark fabric
cut each of these in half on the diagonal once to make 8 half square triangles
layout as shown
sew together
and square up to 12.5".
Once more star to go, then it's assembly time.
Since we are nearly finished with this quilt along, I'm trying to decide if I should do another one or not. Would anyone still be interested? I'm not sure what it would be yet, but something other than a sampler quilt this time. I'm thinking maybe something with various sized quilt blocks-six, nine and twelve inch blocks all combined into one quilt. Or should we try something improvisational? Do you have any ideas of what you would like to see? (No guarantees here, I'm just trying to brainstorm.) I would plan to start it in the fall at the earliest. Let me know what you think.

I think I am willing to learn any time and any thing you are willing to teach.
You just amaze me! I think I'v esaid that before, but everyone else agrees with me I am sure.
If you do another one - definitely count me in - this has been fun!
Kris
Please do another!
I have loved the way you photographed each step so I knew exactly what you were doing. Anything you are willing to teach would be great. I have the most problems with triangles so any help I can get would be wonderful.
Please do another. This has gotten me back into the quilting groove! Your pictures and directions are fabulous!!! Anything would be great for me. I am up for anything after tackling these triangles!!
Thanks Amandajean for another great block. I catched up today, making 8, 9, 10 and 11.
I would love another quilt-a-long, your tutorials are great.
I’m into anything really, improvisational would be fun too. Like in the virtual quilt bee blocks.
I have learned so much from this and your awesome work! I would gladly do another one and am thinking about going back to do the first one! Please do another!!!
Please do another one. I feel like my skills have improved these past several weeks. Your instructions are simple, clear and easy to follow. You've made this so easy - it will definitely NOT become a frustrated UFO. I think I'm going to to your previous quilt along too. You are doing many of us a real service. Thanks so much!
I think we are thinking on the same wavelength...I was thinking of the idea of an improvisational quilt-a-long...not quite sure how it might work, but wouldn't that be fun!
I would do another one also! This has been my very first quilt & I love doing it & I love your instructions!!! I too have trouble with triangles but it is good experience.
My sister are doing this together on line~it so much fun!
Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
Vicki
I am in and I agree with Jacquie - something improvisational and the different size blocks - sounds like fun to me.
Would love to do another. Count me in.
I'm game for another QAL! The Star Block QAL is my 3rd with you; I'd feel lost not coming here each Monday for a block pattern! You are SO inspiring to me and I'm sure everyone else. The Indian Star block looks pretty. Thanks again, SO much, for doing this for us!
Karen
I would absolutely LOVE to do another QAL! This has been so fun and so easy! Your photos make it so easy to put these together and I have learned so much by doing triangles! I can't wait for the next block each Monday! I would love to try anything you decide. Thank you so much for doing these!
You teach us so much with each step. Hope you do another one. Fall is a great time to start.
Thanks for all your work and talent.
I love this (although I am very, very far behind right now) and would love another one ... please! :) :) :)
I love your quilt-a-longs!! I would love to learn how to do pretty much anything because even thought I don't make the whole quilt (the size is too overwhelming for me! haha), I love using the blocks for other projects like baby quilts, bags, etc.
Thanks for all you do!
Love your quilt a longs! If you are willing I am too...All your ideas sound fun and best of all in the fall...You amaze me with your energy and the things you accomplish. Thank you!
Tricia
I am all caught up. I would love to do another quilt with you. Whatever you choose to do will be great.
How about showing us how to do a House of Girls quilt? I would love to learn and understand how to make one.
Thank you for another star. It's looking great! It's been so much fun and a wonderful learning experience doing this with you.
Thank you :o)
I like the idea of multi-sized blocks in the same quilt. These quilt a longs are just wonderful.
You mean if I catch up I'll be done? Only 3 blocks and 8 setting blocks to go...
I would love to do another QAL, but agree it would be good to wait until Fall or later. I must admit, I was so behind, I hadn't made a single block until 6 days ago....I'm such a slacker, but after 4 really productive days I am all caught up! Thanks for the wonderful work you do!
I like the Indian Star block!
I haven't been able to do the QAL, because just had too much going on, but maybe I'll be able to do a fall one. I like the idea of the different sizes of blocks.
I am up for another quilt a long. I am game for anything you decide to try. I am new to quilting, so everything is new and fun for me.
Amanda Jean, I have really loved working on this one. The pace suits me and makes me feel like I can accomplish something! If you started in the fall, I would have a month or so to do other things, rest, or who knows! You are better than a class because I'm never late! (hee-hee). Love the bento-box. Going with the Japanese theme I was thinking waves would be neat or circles to add contrast to the lines of the boxes.
Hello from germany,
My english isn´t god, but I would say I like to do an other one with you. I cant do think with different blocks and so I am willing to learn it. But it is you decision it has to be fun to you!
Greeting Guilitta
Hi Amandajean. I would love to do another one too and I like the idea of different sized blocks. My skills have improved too - thank you!
I would LOVE to do another one. I love the idea of various sized blocks made into one big quilt. That sounds like fun!
YES YES YES! PLEASE DO ANOTHER! I love doing this with you! Thank you is just not enough!
all different sizes would be great for me after Aug. maybe even after Labor Day.
I'm just figuring how I want to set mine from the first quilt along :)
I concure with all of the ladies above...I would love for you to do another QAL. I too look forward to stopping by your blog each Monday for my new "assignment". My vote would be for a quilt with different sized blocks, but what every you decide to do, you'll already have an idea for the one after that (don't know if that makes sense);)
Thanks!
Karen aka Grammy Mac
I do hope you will do another one.
I am a tad behind right now because of getting the house ready to sell and cleaning out the cellar but I know that I can occasionally sneak away and make a block or two. I enjoy being able to use up the small pieces of fabric and still have an attractive quilt. I fact the last one I made is everyone's favorite
I haven't joined in this time, but it's been lovely to see all the blocks, and I may come back to it. Another quilt along would be fantastic, some applique maybe....
I think it would be great to try a quilt with different sized blocks. I would like to join in next time. You provide such a great way to follow along! Thanks!!
While I haven't done much "along" with this quilt along, I have items started before life got in the way.
I'm interested in the various size quilt. 6, 9 and 12-inch blocks would be perfect!
I'd like to get in on the next one.
You were too far into this quilt along when I discovered your blog. I find your energy inspiring!
Yes, please do another one! I discovered your blog too late to join this one, but I'd love to sew along in the next one!
I found your blog too late to follow this QAL, and was hoping you'd do another! I vote for improvisational -- you do them so well!
I'd love for you to do another quilt along. I'll definitely try to join in next time.
I would love to do another quilt along with you! The star quilt along was fun, and I had a good time playing with colors in the blocks. Count me in!
Count me in! While I am just working through your first one, I would love to join a group in the fall for a quilt-a-long in real time. Thanks for your great photos and explanations. An improvisational quilt-a-long is intriguing...would love to hear more of your thoughts on it.
The Indian Star went together very nicely and I love it. I'm not setting it on point, but rather, in the traditional way, using 12 blocks. The left over one will be made into a pillow. Tomorrow, I'll begin cutting out the sashing from the background fabric. This is going to look so nice on the wall in our lavender heather bedroom!
Thanks again, Amandajean!
Count my vote to do another quilt along! I, too, always look forward to the next step on the quilt along. Thanks for your wonderful inspiration and enthusiasm!
I'd love to do another quilt with you. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this!!
aj-
love your quilt-a-longs and the sense of community and fun they inspire while we all chug along independently in our own worlds. If QAL 3 happens- count me in most definitely-whatever pattern you choose!! thanks so much for the first 2 QAL's and Happy Summer!!!
Yes! I would love to continue with another QAL in the fall, Amandajean. I always look forward to each block you present and love knowing that I'm joining in with quilters from around the globe as we stitch up our own versions.
Thank you for leading us, inspiring us and making this so much fun!
I would be happy with any of your ideas for the next QAL - a quilt using different sized blocks or an improvisational one.
I would definately join the next one! Would love to try one that has different sized blocks, or some of those neat improv ones you do. I would love to see how it all comes together.
Thanks for always having great stuff on your blog to read! It's fun to come here and drool on your quilts!
Yes, I would LOVE to do another one! Anything your imagination dreams up would be something I'd love to try!
~jane
Woohoot! I am only missing Block 13 and one setting block. Please, please do another quilt a long. I like the idea of the various sized blocks and the improvisational one.
Do it, do it!!!
OF COURSE I would love for you to do another one. I think a quilt top with all different block sizes would be a fun challenge. Here are some other ideas:
- A QAL using something like charm packs or a jelly roll
- A series of smaller projects, like table runners or wall hangings or bags -- this can even be in the spirit of making Christmas gifts for others (i.e. when we're done with your QAL, we'll have 3 completed gifts in time for Christmas)
- Something theme-based -- either you set a theme (or themes) and people have to meet that theme, or everyone chooses their own theme and has to interpret whatever your tutorial is that week to meet the theme. Or the same idea, but people have to stick to a color / color scheme.
I'll try to think of more ... but even just another ol' quilt-a-long would be good for me, too
I would be up for another Quilt along. I really like John's idea of some small projects to give as gifts for Christmas. Then maybe after Christmas start another quilt.
Hi Amanda Jean, I am just starting the Star Quilt-along, I am on my third block .....
I would love you to do another one... may be a row by row, or a roosting robin - we make a centre block and instead on sending on like a round robin, we all work on our own quilt, and you give a recipe each time.... like this round incorporate squares, next time applique etc.
thanks, Jodie
Ty Amandajean !! I want another quilt made by your teatching !! I am at work now with my stars . Hugs from Chile , Vero
Oh definitely do another one!! :) Now that I have jumped into quilting a bit, I am loving it and actually planning on going back and making quilts from both of the quilt alongs you have done already. So I would definitely join in this time around! :)
