a quilt in a day, day 2
Today's quilt was inspired by this apron, which was ulitmately inspired by Lera, and her love for red & aqua, polka dots, gingham and cherries. (I share the same love for all those things, too.)
This quilt went together super quick. I already had the fabrics picked out, which helped. I started cutting and sewing after dinner, and I finished it up before bed.
The backing will be that sweet aqua cherry print and I'm thinking about red gingham bias binding. To me, this quilt screams "picnic quilt", so I just may have to make a bag to put it in, too.
The top measures 72" x 81". (That's going to be a whole lot of stippling.)
I'm pretty excited to see it all come together.

ooo... this is CUTE! I Love that aqua cherry print! May I ask what it is? It would be perfect for something I'm thinking of.
Cute! Are you going to do "quilt a quilt a day" when your done?
How fun! I love your blue and aqua quilt - this one, too!
I added the first block of the quilt-a-long to my blog. Love how easy it actually was! I'll add the second one soon! Thanks so much for doing this!!!

DO you have plans for all your quilt-a-day projects?
I have seen this color combo all over the blogs and I love it. It's just so fresh. Love your idea of using it for a picnic quilt...and yes, of course, you have to make a matching bag to put it in. : )
Love it. I love aqua and red too.
Red and Aqua--Love it. Finishing up my second qal block along with setting blocks over the weekend.

ooh. It does ooze of picnic-y-ness. another beautiful piece!
ps- thanks for adding me to the quiltalong list.
I am always surprised with this kind of work and the speed as you work! It promises to be very pretty.
I've loved your Strawberry Trifle and bag - when i read the post i was ashamed to comment because my English - now I lost all shame!!
Adorable! What fabric did you use for the aqua? Love the idea for the binding.
I love those colors! Great job!
Wonderful quilt, it'll be great for picnics! Red gingham will look beautiful as binding. A nice contrast to all the lovely dots :-)
ooh... I love aqua and red and gingham too! this is too perfect. maybe I should make one too... hmm...
cute quilt! I love long patchwork strip quilts like this. Must try one of my own!
ADORABLE!
I absolutely love the simplicity of this! It is going to be even more beautiful after you quilt it. Can't wait to see!!
anina,
I am trying not to think about how much quilting I am going to have to do when all this madness is done. I think that is the one and only drawback to this plan. :)
littlelovebug,
the cherry print is by Robert Kaufmann and it is called "Dainties".

lisa jerrilyn,
I have plans to make at least 12 different quilts. what I am going to do with all of them remains to be seen. I'm sure that I will find something to do with them. :)
aj
michelle,
I bought the solid aqua at a Mill End Textiles Store. (they are an outlet, so you never know what you will find.)
the aqua cherries is by Robert Kaufmann and I also found it at the same store as the aqua solid.

this one is going to be so wonderful! i love the aqua, and with the cherries backing it's just going to be so so sweet :)
Love the fabric and simplicity.
My goodness, you are just whipping them out! Making me feel lazy ;)
Very nice!
oh, i love this idea. I could handle this one. i have been putting off my quilt because I am scared, but maybe I could do this with the vintage sheet and use something else for the backing. thanks for the inspiration (again!!!)
That's it. I'm buying a plane ticket! Either you are coming out here or I am coming out there!
I can't stand it. Seriously. And it soooo deserves to be a picnic blanket. Eat on it, just don't let the kids spill on it! :-)
I love aqua/light blue paired with a bright cherry red. Lovely!
I just wanted to tell ou that you are AMAZING!!! I heard about you from my mom (Grammy Mac) and we just went and got material so I can do your 2nd quilt along. I am soooooooo excited and honestly just don't know how you do it! My husband and I decided that he and our 7 month old are going to have "daddy and me" time for a couple of hrs each wk so I can have my "fun" time! yeah! ps do you have a pattern for the bag you made that matched the quilt?
Do you actually ever go to bed? I truly don't know how you have three little ones, run a house and do all these quilts. I'm hugely impressed. This one's lovely and reminds me of one I helped my first customer put together. She used mainly chocolate brown with chartreuse green and cream which looked amazing. I'm off to a machine quilting course soon so hopefully I will be able to whip up cute stuff like you do more frequently!!
I am a huge fan of this color pairing. This one is awesome.
That is so pretty! I love the colors and I think the gingham binding would be perfect! A quilt top a day? You ARE ambitious! Not to be the devil's advocate, but have you seen this pattern? It might be a good quick one, too. I have been thinking about trying it.
Another very cute quilt. I love it!!
Happy mother's day! Love the quilt! hugs.niki
You ARE crazy.
This is a great top. What type of quilting are you planning to showcase on it?
I love the teal and the red together. One of my favorite colour combinations. This is going to be a beautiful quilt!
I love the color combo, too.
I LOVE Red too! And I love what you have going on with this quilt. I just bought a bunch of red and white and black and white polka dot material the other day. All different sizes. I can't wait to start on a quilt with it, but I have got to finish my daughters that I started almsost a year ago first.
This quilt is gorgeous! I really hope this is not the one with the binding that shines though...
Perfectly charming! I love aqua with cherry red. You must post a picture of the quilt when you finish it... I'm anxious to see the backing and the binding too!
What a great and versatile design! I think I will copy this for a baby quilt for my friend.
