throw pillow mania
It seems like I've been working on making pillows forever, but in reality, I managed to complete my goal of making 11 throw pillows for gifts in less than a month. Yippee! I really don't know why I thought this was a good idea in the first place, but it was an exercise in perseverance, if nothing else! Ha!
I can't believe that this is my first scrap vortex pillow. It's pretty fun! This is scrap project #139.
Simple and sweet patchwork never gets old! This is scrap project #140.
Another half-rectangle pillow, which is scrap project # 141.
And a fraternal twin to the previous pillow. It's not exactly the same, but I had to look carefully to make sure that I didn't post the same photo twice. :) This is scrap project #142!

I already gave one pillow cover away, but here are the remaining 10. They look pretty dandy together! I'm actually excited to send them off to their new homes!
One of the great things about this project was that I was able to use up a lot of scrap batting....the pile shrunk considerably! I also discovered that I could use my leftover scraps of fusible interfacing (cut into 1" widths) and fused the batting pieces together, side by side. It's like a triple scrap elimination. I'll take that any day of the week!

ReplyDeleteLove your scrap batting idea! What type of interfacing did you use? I probably have scraps of interfacing that could get used too.
ReplyDeleteI used light weight interfacing. Some is Pellon SF101, and then other random stuff I've had for years. I think lightweight is key.

Loved the photos of all of these pillows hanging out together! I have a few extra scrap vortex blocks hanging around, and I'm trying to decide if they'll become potholders, placemats or pillows...
ReplyDeleteThe pillows look great. I love using leftover interfacing to fuse scrap batting together. Way cheaper than the rolls of thin webbing they sell.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. When you mail them, what do you use? I've only delivered pillows in person. I've made several scrap vortex quilts but never a pillow. I may just copy your idea. How ever did you refrain from mailing them as you finished them? That's what I call patience!
ReplyDeleteI will mail these...but the covers only. No way I would ship the full pillows! I waited to mail them because I wanted the picture of them all together! That was my main motivation for finishing them as well. :)

Yes, I made the patchwork and then layered it on to batting. I quilted the piece, then added an envelope backing. There are pillow forms inside. That way, the covers are washable.

They're all so so pretty. Lucky recipients. Great use of fabric and batting scraps. Love the idea of fusing smaller batting pieces together too. i wouldn't have thought of that.

ReplyDeleteThe individual pillows are fantastic but, wow, they look great together! I love the photo with them stacked in the triangle pattern. Makes me want to start my own set though I don't have the perseverance. The small squares (#140) is just so sweet!
