throw pillow mania

It seems like I've been working on making pillows forever, but in reality, I managed to complete my goal of making 11 throw pillows for gifts in less than a month. Yippee! I really don't know why I thought this was a good idea in the first place, but it was an exercise in perseverance, if nothing else! Ha!
I can't believe that this is my first scrap vortex pillow. It's pretty fun! This is scrap project #139.
Simple and sweet patchwork never gets old! This is scrap project #140.
Another half-rectangle pillow, which is scrap project # 141.
And a fraternal twin to the previous pillow. It's not exactly the same, but I had to look carefully to make sure that I didn't post the same photo twice. :) This is scrap project #142!

You can see the previous pillows here, here, and here.
I already gave one pillow cover away, but here are the remaining 10. They look pretty dandy together! I'm actually excited to send them off to their new homes!
One of the great things about this project was that I was able to use up a lot of scrap batting....the pile shrunk considerably! I also discovered that I could use my leftover scraps of fusible interfacing (cut into 1" widths) and fused the batting pieces together, side by side. It's like a triple scrap elimination. I'll take that any day of the week!
I am quite pleased with how they turned out! But boy, that's a whole lot of pillows...even for me! :)

Happy Monday to you!

Fantastic group of pillows. Love the idea to join batting pieces with interfacing. I have two bags that can be used for this.

Love your scrap batting idea! What type of interfacing did you use? I probably have scraps of interfacing that could get used too.

    1. I used light weight interfacing. Some is Pellon SF101, and then other random stuff I've had for years. I think lightweight is key.

      Hope that helps!

  15. I am pretty tickled with the pillows on the bed. They are impressive individually but all lined up--wow!! I think in the scrap score keeping game, these should count thrice. :)

  17. A whole lot of pillows ... or a whole lot of Crazy??? YOU decide LOL!!! They look fantastic CrazyMom -- what a pretty project! I love the scrap vortex pillow -- I've been toying with your scrap vortex idea but not sure I wanted to take the leap -- a pillow would be a great way to find out! (And on another note, are you going to market???)

  19. I love these! Such a great way to practice piecing and free motion quilting for this novice! Thanks for the inspiration and tip on how to fuse batting scraps. I'm saving mine, but wasn't sure how to use them.

  21. It might have felt like a bad idea at some point in the month-long effort, but oh my goodness! They are beautiful, and so worth it! The one pic looks like bowling pins lined up. All are gorgeous!

  24. Loved the photos of all of these pillows hanging out together! I have a few extra scrap vortex blocks hanging around, and I'm trying to decide if they'll become potholders, placemats or pillows...

  25. The pillows look great. I love using leftover interfacing to fuse scrap batting together. Way cheaper than the rolls of thin webbing they sell.

I love them all!! And they look perfect on that white quilt of yours...it's probably going to be hard to give them up :)

  27. what does it say about me that I was counting them before I scrolled down and saw that you have given one away??? They are absolutely beautiful! I wish I had your motivation. : ) Sew on!

  28. What a great post. When you mail them, what do you use? I've only delivered pillows in person. I've made several scrap vortex quilts but never a pillow. I may just copy your idea. How ever did you refrain from mailing them as you finished them? That's what I call patience!

    1. I will mail these...but the covers only. No way I would ship the full pillows! I waited to mail them because I wanted the picture of them all together! That was my main motivation for finishing them as well. :)

  29. You may have addressed this in a previous post but did you quilt the front of the pillow using barring? I'm assuming you used a pillow form
    Insert. Great job!

    1. Yes, I made the patchwork and then layered it on to batting. I quilted the piece, then added an envelope backing. There are pillow forms inside. That way, the covers are washable.

      Hope that helps!

  36. Love the photo of them all lined up like bowling pins. Strike! Did you zig zag the seams on the inside?

    1. Thank you! That's actually what I was thinking of when I photographed them in this order, haha! No, I didn't zig zag the edges.

They look like little tin soldiers, shoulder to shoulder, all in a row. Perfect formation, beautiful creations. You're friends are fortunate to have you stitching up such a sweet gift.

  45. The individual pillows are fantastic but, wow, they look great together! I love the photo with them stacked in the triangle pattern. Makes me want to start my own set though I don't have the perseverance. The small squares (#140) is just so sweet!
