splash rotary cutter

When the folks at Olfa asked if I would like to try out one of their new Splash rotary cutters and blog about it, I just couldn't say no! The name "splash" and the fun color scheme had me hooked immediately. I have a quilt called Splash (shown below, it's a pattern in Sunday Morning Quilts) that matches the new cutter exactly. That is pretty fun!
I've been using the rotary cutter for a month or so and I'm loving it! It features a quick change blade, which is super simple to use. I tried it out just to see how it works (not because my blade was dull) and I like the ease of use. The cutter is light weight, but still sturdy. The contoured handle is wonderful! I cut with both my left and right hands intermittently and it works equally well in both. (Dare I say that only lefties can truly appreciate that?) Last but not least, did I mention that I love that it's aqua? Oh, I probably did. :)
I usually dread cutting, but between a cute new cutter and my new counter height cutting table, (see below) I've actually started to enjoy the process. In fact, I've started a few new habits. Whenever I cut for a project, I cut out a few extra 3" squares. When I'm ironing, I'll grab a scrap or two out of one of my many scrap baskets, press them, cut out a few 3" squares and add them to the pile. Between those two new habits, eventually I'll have enough squares to sew together into a quilt.
It's kind of like leaders and enders, but on the cutting front. It's a (feeble?) attempt to get my scraps under control. Because there is a teeny tiny chance that I might possibly have a scrap problem. Maybe. :)
Anyway....I'm happy to tell you that I also have a new splash rotary cutter to give away to one of my readers! If you would like to throw your name in the virtual hat, please leave me a comment at the end of this post. In your comment I'd like to hear one thing that you are looking forward to this week. I'll pick a winner in a few days. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog. I appreciate it very much. And as always....

Happy Monday to you!
xo

Anything to make cutting fun! You are too cute!
This week is week 2 of my 50 weeks to 50. I am completely clearing my storage room, HGTV Clean Sweep style, finishing what I initiated when I did a huge garage sale last week. You'd be so proud. Friday we celebrate our youngest daughter's 10th birthday, followed that night by a departure for Spokane, WA for a business conference. It's gonna be an AWESOME week!!
Have a blast AmandaJean!

Love the new cutter - and that blue! I look forward to Tuesdays every week as I have time at home to sew, or play with fabric, or plan, or shop. You get the idea! When will the cutter be available in shops? I know I don't have a hope of winning.

You can't go wrong with aqua!

When I cut fabric for a quilt or other project, if the remaining fabric is less than a fat quarter or so, I cut it into 5" strips, 2.5" strips, or just a straight strip. I've been wondering how to get to the scraps from before I began, but I think doing it when I iron is a great idea.

This week, I'm looking forward to getting my sewing room back under control. I don't clean while I sew, so every project or two, I have to get the room back to normal. This week, it's time.

I would love a chance to win such a beautiful cutter! Right now, I have a boring yellowish one. And I will have to copy your habit of cutting 3" squares: it can get tedious to cut them all at once!

Thanks for the chance!

Would you believe that I have 3 quilts to cut out? One of the new splash rotary cutters would come in very handy. I do and then I don't with cutting from scraps. I did today!!

So cute! I quite like my rotary cutter, but I'd sure LOVE a new one!

I am simultaneously looking forward to, and not looking forward to Saturday. I am taking my two kids (2 year old and 3 month old) on a road trip to see my sister. I'm going alone because my husband has a week long business trip. So, I'm looking forward to seeing my sister, but not my husband leaving or the 7 hour drive to visit my sister. Whew. That was a long explanation ;)

Hi Amanda Jean!
I am looking forward to placing my first quilt on my bed this week. I am a new quilter (one Year) and took on the project of the Underground Railroad during my first months of quilting. I was never a sewer so this was quite the undertaking for me.
I have followed your website for months now and have to say I so enjoy your postings.
So...back to me....I am very excited about putting my very own quilt on my bed...maybe even today if I can get the last few things done to it.

Great idea for cutting your scraps! I have been cutting snippets as I go lately because I have been sewing clothes instead of quilts. If a piece only needs a snip or two to go into the snippets bucket, then I have been clipping and tossing. LOL. Same with "strings". Odd shaped pieces are going in the "odd shaped pieces" bucket for now. LOL.

I, too, tend to cut scraps into 3" squares but I do it after I finish a project. I can't handle odd sizes so either it goes into a square (3" or 5") or it gets thrown away. I don't have the room or the inclination to keep up with a lot of scraps. However, never say never. I just made a patchwork pillow out of 2.5" squares and it turned out pretty cute. I might have to rethink my process. Thanks for the chance to win that darling rotary cutter!

Nothing like having a cute rotary cutter! Does the blade stay covered or do you have to move it open & closed?

I'm looking forward to moving all of our furniture back into the bedrooms & my sewing room after having the rest of the flooring installed in our house.

That cutter is so cute...especially next to your quilt! I'm looking forward to a graduation party for my daughter and then off to Denver for a quick visit.

I love the colors of that cutter too. I am looking forward to piecing together my finished blocks for my Tula Pink "Kiss Kiss" quilt.

This week I am looking forward to my Saturday morning breakfast date with my dear hubby! Even though we are empty nesters, it gives us a long period of time sitting down together drinking coffee and eating our breakfast without the need to be anywhere else! We can really focus on each other! Even the waitresses know this is our "date" time and they keep the coffee flowing both before and after the food arrives. They also make sure we never feel "rushed" as they know it is "our" time in a busy week!

From a crafty viewpoint I am looking forward to finishing my first Christmas gift...a Collapsible Craft Container to match my mom's sewing box!

I leave for Sisters Oregon on Wednesday, to attend their quilt show and take a class with Sue Spargo. I am so excited. A new rotary cutter would be fantastic to have as I am sure I will come home with lots of inspiration, patterns, and fabric.

Good Morning,
I'm looking forward to being able to pick up my grandson, Malcolm from preschool. In the car he tells me everything and how he doesn't like sharing(laugh). Think the color of the rotary cutter is very cool.

Wow what a cute cutter. I could definitely use it. This week I am busy getting ready to celebrate my daughters' birthdays this weekend. One will be 8 and the other is turning 4. They are a joy and we are having fun making decorations and little treats for the party together. Thanks for the giveaway.

I am looking forward to the arrival of my new sofa and my old sofa leaving. This is also good news for the sewing room because the love seat hat occupies part of my sewing room will also be leaving (whooo whooo). Bonnie hunter is doing a quilt cam this week tomorrow and I plan on catching up on my block of the week and month projects during this quilting time.

I'm looking forward to starting my third quilt ever, which is for a friend's new nephew. She liked the first quilt I ever made (for my son) and wants one just like it.
