Then it was on to basting and quilting. For the quilting, I did a simple stipple in khaki thread. Thankfully, it all went smoothly. This red fabric on the back isn't a perfect match to the front, but I figured it was close enough. I actually liked having a darker fabric on the back. It adds a lot to the quilt.
I used a plaid fabric for the binding, which was just screaming to cut on the bias. I was a little nervous as to how top stitching the bias would work with machine binding, but I'm happy to say it went just fine and dandy. Actually, mitering the corners went much smoother than usual. What a happy surprise! I had the whole quilt done by 7 pm on Friday. I'll admit, I was pretty tired!
The quilt measures 63" x 81". I'm so glad that I finished it in time, even if my arms a little worse for the wear. :) I'm happy to say, he liked the quilt.
WOW! That is amazing! I can't believe you did the whole thing in two days.
Amei, posso te visitar também???Eu levo retalhos cortados e bolo de cenoura...Brincadeira.Beijos.
It's beautiful, and you are--just a teensy bit--crazy! Just kidding, but that is one marathon sewing session!
Yeah, you are one crazy mama! Marathon, quilting, get some rest.
You are crazy! :) But it's also very motivational for me to read about. I'm expecting baby #2 next month and there are some days where I despair that I'll ever quilt again. You've got 3 kids... it's possible, somehow. :)
Wow, I'm impressed! I bet you slept well last night!
you are one crazy chick!
Crazy is right! You are really amazing though.
I like your quilt...that's my quilt style fast and easy....and free. I just know he loved it. I do.
I totally get it. I'm doing an amazing quilt for the fiancee of the son of the friend-who-was-once-engaged-to-my-brother-and who introduced me to the man to whom I've been married for 21 years.
I love your quilt!! Colors are suited well for a guy quilt..boy you flew through this one, good job!!
Awesome! I can't believe you can make a quilt that fast. It is amazing!
You are more prolific than me. I recently completed one in 4 days. I only had the evenings as my kids are too little to sew around during the day.
Way to go! That's an accomplishment! So glad to hear that he likes it too. HE will know it's a labor of love knowing you worked so hard to get it done before he left ;)
Wow, great job! No doubt he WAS happy with the quilt - it's awesome.
What a great job you did! Sometimes you just work better under pressure, don't you? I know I do.
Congrats on such a great finish!
It's a great quilt and there's nothing crazy about finishing it in two days -- sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do!
Love this! The colors are wonderful! What a great gift!
Wow you quilt fast and I love the pattern! Great job with the colors. I'd love to make a quilt in 5 days let alone two. It looks really nice.
so so nice work!!
Have a rest now will you? You are making the rest of us look lazy! Ive been machine binding for a while as i hate hand sewing, leaving that bit extra on the back makes all the difference, great work!
Wow, that's an awesome thank-you-gift! Congratulations. :-)
Beautiful quilt with nice colors ..
And so fast ..
Have a nice weekend ..
I really like the colors.
That was some really fast sewing. It turned out great. Now you deserve some much needed rest.
Nice work! I don't think there's any way I could do that in that short of time, even if I never stopped for anything else! LOL
Wow! Did you even take the time to use the bathroom :) Impressive! Both the quilt and your speedy sewing skills. Hope you take time for a little TLC. Heck, I'm worn out just thinking about sewing a quilt in 2 days. No doubt, it'll be well loved - it's wonderful!
I actually like the back a lot - as a bright contrast to the rather dark colors of the top.
Amazing quilt!!! Don't think I'll be attempting to make one that fast though.....I need potty breaks often! LOL!
Wonderful quilt. Love the fall colors. Love the punch of color on the back.
Love your quilt! The quilting is so nicely done, and plaid binding really set it off. Wow, you are super lady! Love reading your blogs! Cynthia
Amanda Jean, the quilt turned out great!! What a wonderful thing to do with the fabric. I love the simplicity.
Well done! Love the plaid binding, too. I always like stripes or plaid for a binding. The quilting looks just great, all around a terrific job!
I have a friend who does this stuff too....gets an idea that someone needs a quilt and pops one out the next day! She can sew at lightening speed! I really don't know how you do it. I hope he more than liked the quilt...do you think guys have idea what goes into making a quilt?
It is a beauty and a true gift of your time, effort, and sizable talent!
thats a lot of work .. really like it
Unbelievable! I'm amazed. Thanks for all the tutorials by the way, they become very handy now and then.
Groetjes from the Netherlands,
Ha! Well you ARE living up to your name!! That is amazing. I am envious of all that quality sew time!! It turned out beautiful, Happy sewing
Talk about being productive! What a wonderful use of the gifted fabric...it turned out beautifully. Hope your weekend was fun! Smiles`Beth
What a fabulous quilt , I sure your friend had a lovely surprise receiving his gift.
Great quilt, you are wonderfully crazy! If I could maintain a pace like that, I could make at least 40 quilts before the end of the year. Way to go!
Wow! what a fantastically crazy quilting woman you are! lol That was really a totally cool thing you did. It brings a smile to my face even now thinking of the pleasure you both got from his great gift.
You are so cute. And a very good friend. :)
That is such a beautiful quilt! I love the colors you used - they make it look sooo cozy. Your husband's best friend is so lucky :) Thanks for sharing the picture with us.
What a special gift!!! That is a wonderful story :-) Thanks for sharing and for being the kind of passionate quilter that gets the wild hair and can't stop until the quilt happens.
Impressive! Looks great! I love that you did the big blocks-and-four-patches ... Just today, I've been doing the same thing on my most recent 2 Jeans quilts, because I was tired of doing just small squares, and the big squares made for so much less cutting and sewing! I hope to be blogging about them soon ...
beautiful quilt! so soft and warm looking!
You're killin' me, but yeah it's great! It's so fun to do things like that, spur of the moment!
I get these same kind of crazy thoughts but I'm not always as fast from thought to execution. It's sure fun to return a gift to a giver using something that the giver has given. (That sentence was just about as confusing as the one you wrote.)
Unbelievably fast! nice quilt.
You're an animal! Wow. Great job!
Just 'pinned' this one on Pinterest as one I would like to make! Just beautiful!
Great quilt! I love the backing fabric and quilting. I can't believe you managed to finish it all in such a short time. Your machine must have been smoking.
Your stippling is just SO perfect.
