three and a few answers

my little girl turns 3 today. (or "flee" as she says.) i wish i could bottle her up. she is such a delightful little girl. i love her so much. my dear friend Linda sent this adorable dress for her birthday. how cute is that?!?!? thank you so much, Linda.

now, for a few answers about the quilt along.

the start date was technically Monday, but if you haven't started yet, you can start today. (a few days difference is no big deal.) also, if you would rather make 7 in a week, that's perfectly fine. AND, there is no penalty for falling behind. :) a few people mentioned making a smaller version, which sounds perfect, too. just have fun with it!

a few thoughts on the color selection...and this is just my 2 cents....since there is white sashing in the quilt, you can throw almost any fabric into the mix and it should work. (white sashing does wonders!) the only thing i would recommend is to make sure that the two colors in each block have plenty of contrast. you want to be able to read each fabric easily. now i'm off to make my 9 patch for the day...have a good one!

In Spain we say "when children are small you just want to eat them, and when they grow up you regret you hadn't".........
so happy birthday to your little princess!

One question (and I HAVE looked all over your blog for the answer but didn't find it), which white fabric do you usually use for your sashing?

I'll be on the "7 once a week" list!

Thanks a lot

Happy Birthday sweetie!!

Another question on the quilt - do you have any 'rules' for your own quilt such as no fabric is repeated? or something along those lines?? I have never done anything like this and would like it to look GOOD when it is done. Do we JUST focus on the 9 patch blocks right now?

Your daughter is so precious! My little one is now 7 -- can't believe how fast they grow! A question on the sashing -- is it against the rules to use another colour besides white? I'm sewing from stash and would rather not buy anything new unless I really need to. Thank you! Dianne B. in England

So sweet! I love that dress on her. My son will be three in June and he's just now realized that he can tell other people.

In the grocery store this morning to a random passerby: "Hi! I'm Anderson, I'm gonna be three in June!" of course he says "thee" for 'three'... This age is so cute!

Happy birthday to your daughter! She´s beautiful and I think 3 is the perfect age, I remember when my brother was 3, he was so cute and sweet!!! He kissed and hugged everyone all the time, now he´s 16 and he´s so unsociable!! haha... But I love him =P
About the quilt, I was planning to make a bigger version, queen size for my bed, but I´ve never done a quilt that big and I´m a little hesitant...

I love three too. My 3 year old is sitting on my lap right now! She will be 4 in two months and I can already tell that I am really going to miss three! : ) I am working on the 9 patches and I have two done and three more cut. I love it so far! Just one question, how many extra squares do we need of each fabric to make up the scrappy border? I have started a pile of 2 or 3 extra from each fabric to set aside to make the borders. You mentioned yardage in your original post but do you have a number of squares figured out? Thanks so much for hosting this sew-a-long! It is my first that I have actually participated in and it is so much fun!

Happy Birthday A.! I cant wait to start!

I'm loving this quilt-along! Thank you so much for suggesting it and hosting it. I have 2 1/2 inch squares everywhere.

I don't think I'll be using white sashing, but I'll definitely be using a lighter shade for contrast as you suggested. Though, I think I love lots of white in a quilt just as much as you do. But, sometimes I want something different.
