small projects week-day 5
I'm calling these "hold everything" boxes. They sit on my front entry table. Originally I was thinking of using them for mittens and stocking hats, but since spring is finally here, I think we will use them for sunglasses and sunscreen first. :)
The boxes are much like my storage cubes, but I made them larger and I quilted the outside panels. I added an initial for each box to personalize them. (Well, there isn't one for my husband. He'll have to stash his stuff elsewhere.)
I've had these boxes in my head for months, and it's so good to finally get them done! For the most part, I would say they turned out better than expected. I LOVE it when that happens. They took me ALL day to make. But thanks to the motivation of small projects week, they are done. Yipee!!!
I'd like to thank everyone who left a sweet comment about my projects this week. I'm planning on doing another small projects week in about a month. And maybe you would like to join in? It's good motivation, I tell ya. :) I had to push myself to get this stuff done, and by Wednesday I was about to cave and start a new quilt project. But I kept going, and I'm so glad I did. Now, it's back to quilts! Hurray!!!

Beautiful AND practical... two thumbs up :0)
And I love that red polka-dot fabric.
Sooo cute! What a productive week you have had:)
You must feel like you go so much done this week! I'm doing two of the projects you did--thanks for the great ideas as always!

These storage boxes are so nifty! I keep meaning to try and make some for my crafty room. Maybe next small-projects week comes up, I'll give it a shot. :)
Everytime I stop by your little bloggie world, my world gets rocked by your amazing talent and creativity! Your a champion. And I saw the comment you made on Philigry blog. I really think you should set up shop in the garage! Or on a porch! Life is short!
They look great, what a clever idea to have them at the door like that.
Love your new boxes - so qute. Tell us when you have your next "small projekts" week - I would LOVE to join!
I'm definitely doing this for my own entry. Thanks Amanda Jean--you are such an inspiration!
These are so great.
Not sure they qualify as 'small' projects though. Looks like lots of time and effort went into these.
I was away for some days & I couldn't see the moment to get to your blog! Great ideas as always! Thanks a lot.
It's a great idea. And also beautiful. You are very fast with the sewing machine jajaja. Kisses from Venezuela.
You have done such a wonderful job. I love every single project. It is fun to see how versatile one fabric can be. You are extremely talented.
Beautiful cubes !! In my page I have one realized with his(her, your) tutorial storage cubes. adore them!! Regards for you!! (sorry for my Englishman )
oh my goodness, I LOVE these boxes!!! Great job!
So cute and practical. I could use about 50 of these around my house :)
Those look great. Congrats on finishing your small project week!
oh the cuteness!!!
and i'm SO in for small projects week next time.
Very cool. I *so* need to make a set of these.
Terrific project and great practical use!
I really love those! I wish I had somewhere to put them. Hmm...maybe the girls' room?
I watched as you completed one project after another this week, and am inspired to follow suit. I read your blog, see what you've done, and think to myself, "I could do that...wish I'd thought of it!" I can follow patterns and directions as well as anyone, but I lack the creativity to come up with these ideas on my own. Where do you get yours? Does it just pop into your head, or do you develop ideas based on a particular need or situation? I wish I had half of what you've got! You are one talented, creative lady. Thanks for sharing that with all of us!
You didn't make one for K? I wouldn't make one for Joe, just because I never want to see his stuff! (Why is it that his stuff drives me bonkers, but my own stuff doesn't?!? I wish I could be tolerant of his things. lol)
I remember you telling me about these when I came to visit. They turned out great! Glad to see you got them finished!
Everything about this idea appeals to me and my sense of organization. Ü
I have really enjoyed small projects week and hope you do another soon.
I LOVE them! what a great idea
Wow -- those are awesome Amandajean! I love the initials on them -- VERY, very clever!
I have been wanting to make a ton of these for every room in the house. Super cute! So, when you quilted them, do you do that after they were sewn together or before through just one layer? I'm confused! :)
I really love these. I made one storage box and then gave up, but maybe this will inspire me to do more so I can get organized... well at least it would be a start!
Those are terrific!
Looking good Amanda Jean!
Love these! I too was wondering when you quilted them in the process? How did you do your letters too? Thanks!
Very cute! I love the red fabric and initials...well done!
these are the cutest things I have seen today! I love them. I just made some storage cubes using your pattern. I'll have to post about them on my blog tomorrow. I have lots more to make of course because they are so easy and the finished product is very useful!
Those turned out great! Love the red. That's one of my favorite prints. What type of interfacing did you use to make these?
Thank you for yet another useful tutorial - I will definately be making some of these to help organise my home.
I really like your 'project week' idea - might have to steal that one. Great job x 5!
I have really enjoyed your small projects week,Amanda! I've had it in my mind to do these storage cubes ever since you posted the tutorial at Christmas. Some day soon, I hope. As I tell you so often, You are AMAZING!
I love this idea of having a small projects week. I've been having myself a "national decluttering week", so I've sort of gotten small projects done, just none that included sewing. :)
Just wonderful! I love your ideas and your blog.
I love the boxes. Girl, you can sew!! Thanks again for always providing an inspiraton piece in your blog. Debbie
They are pretty.
Those are wonderful. I'm thinking maybe for organizing projects in my sewing room.
love the idea of another small projects week. i'm saving this idea for my new sewing room....i'm going to need a bigger, better scrap organization system...maybe something like these.
Oh, I LOVE your storage boxes!
I just made a storage basket this weekend, myself.
I wish I had seen your cube tutorial before. These are definitely going on list of things to make!
i quilted one large panel first. and then i cut down the outside pieces, assembled the outside of the box, and then made the inside liner, sewed it all together (like a purse without handles. does that make sense?
i quilted the panels first, then assembled the box. (see comment left for roxanne.) for the letters, I used wonder under, made by pellon.
i didn't use any interfacing for the inside panels this time. when i do, i use pellon brand interfacing. a midweight one that isn't crunchy.
Small projects week is a great idea, I really enjoyed following along... would love to join you next time!
These are great storage boxes! I especially love that you quilted them.....nice touch!
I am going to have to try some of these! I need some under bed storage and I think this is going to be the way to go.
These are so cute! I love the monograms and the polka dots
I LOVE these.
those are so great. i love that fabric!
I absolutely love them! What a great idea to put an initial on each one.
These are great! I've never thought of putting letters on them. Might have to try that!
