red and white trees!

I made the first block for this quilt LAST year on December 20th, because I'm brilliant like that.....hahaha! Over the weekend I finished the last two blocks and assembled the top. It was a TREAT to have only 9 blocks to sew together to make that happen. Woohoo! The plan is to back it with the red and white polka dots (shocking, eh?) and one of the red fabrics shown will be the binding. I hope to finish it up this year yet and hang it in my entryway. The nice thing about the restrained color scheme is that I can get away with leaving it up well into February. Or all year round, really. The pattern is called Trees! and can be found here or here.

Are you doing any Christmas sewing? If you are, I'd love to hear about it in the comments. If you are already done, I'd love to hear your secrets to making that happen! ;)

Happy Monday to you!

I'm binding a quilt for friends who have a cabin near Yosemite. It's cabin-themed rather than Christmas-themed, but it is going to be their Christmas present! Much of the credit goes to the long-arm quilter who got it to me even sooner than I had requested.

Not doing much sewing, my studio is in the basement so it is COLD.
Still mourning the fact that you have pulled the plug on the linkup.

These trees make me happy! Brilliant to do it all in red and prolong the time you can display it in your home.

I'm making big floor pillows for my grandkids with their names on them. Four are done and 1 is in progress.

Love the trees in red and white! I am working on a yellow Swiss quilt for my granddaughter’s birthday Jan 6. It comes so quickly that I haven’t done a quilt for her since her big girl quilt of purple butterflies and she’s 14 so it’s time. So I’m piecing the top and will quilt it on the week after Christmas so I can get some presents sewn for Xmas in the meantime. . Crazy, huh?

I'm busy making zippered boxy tote bags for the school teachers (4), Sweetpea Pods (5) for religion teachers, and quilts for my nephews(2). I'm also keeping up with the Gudrun Crew Stella quilt along and the Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt. So far, I'm still caught up on and making progress on everything.

Our VTMQG had a swap yesterday at our holiday party...rope bowls filled with a little something. Merciful heavens, those things are addictive! I'm also making a ton of reversible drawstring bags to fill with goodies for solstice gifts...a dolly quilt for my granddaughter, knitting a cap for my husband, and more IF THERE'S TIME! Scramble, scramble!

All done except finishing the binding on a small wall hanging for my daughter. I made 8 pillow cases for the grand kids, a picnic blanket from Rachel Hauser's pattern for my daughter, some jammies and a dress for my grand daughter, 4 stuffed telephone prop up stands and I can't remember what all else. Now I'm just trying to stay caught up on Bonnie Hunter's mystery QAL and it's kicking my butt and this is only week 3! Love your trees. You have shown me I need more polka dots in my life.

I've already made some potholders, currently working on a boxy pouch, and still on the docket are a stocking for my new grandgirl, more potholders, and some pillowcases! Oh, and gift bags!

The trees are great! I read the post about your leaving this for whatever else is in store, and I'm truly sorry. I've received a great deal of scrappy inspiration from you over the years, and actually made a number of the quilts, which I can't say about many of the patterns and designs I like. =) Thanks for some great ideas, and best wishes for enjoying this part of your life and your children's lives. I guess you're going to be the mother of a college student next!

This is fabulous. I love the restrained colour scheme, which as you say will cover more than Christmas. x

I love your trees! I am making pillows for my best friend and my aunt. Almost done!
I was sad to hear that you will no long be blogging, but "to everything there is a season!" I do hope that your past blog posts will somehow still be available. I love looking back at your past creations and tutorials.

Love the trees!
I made 8 flannel pillowcases for my great nieces and nephews, a Christmas throw pillow for myself and one for a friend too. That's all I have to get done for Christmas, now hopefully I can get some fun stuff done. I'd like to finish a Christmas quilt I started a few year ago and maybe make a few ornaments to use as hostess gifts.
I try to get my shopping done early so I can sew (which involves no stress for me).....makes for a joy filled Holiday season!
Merry Christmas!

This morning I continue my Christmas sewing. I started the end of October but haven't touched it for weeks. I also have Christmas crocheting to do so I need to keep going!

I make Christmas postcards to send to friends. I make Christmas tree ornaments for grands; this year they are embroidered. I still have these to do by next week. Better get going.

As usual, super cute! I finished my first "Geranium" dress. It wasn't difficult but definitely challenging for me as I've never made a garment (at least not since the one I made in high school hundreds of years ago). It's so cute and I can't wait to make another one.

I'm going to miss your posts.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

What a cute idea for your Christmas trees! I've never seen that before, and I like it. I've got decorations on my machine cabinets, so there's no sewing going on here until after Christmas, but I'm missing it, and thinking a lot about getting started again. ---"Love"

These are so cute! Sad to hear your news but excited for your free time and new adventure. You've inspired me to save and use up scraps, and your binding tutorial is always my go-to. Thanks for sharing your love of quilting and your talents with the internet world!!!

Love it! You may want to check to see if the red backing may show through too much. I need to quilt a wallhanging and then I am done with gifts. Merry Christmas!

Love, love, love your Christmas tree wallhanging! What a wonderful addition to your holiday decorations. Coincidentally, this was the first pattern I ever got from you - and this being your last month seems pretty ironic, huh? You have truly inspired many a quilter (and knitter), not only to save those tiny scraps but to use them. I will miss your QAL, one-of-a-kind patterns, pincushions, color choices, and on and on. Best of luck as you enter a new chapter of your life. Wishing you all the best!

No Christmas sewing but 2 December projects to finish - one for Island Batik and one for my UFO goals. I love your trees, they are adorable.

I have been working on month after decorating on counted cross stitch santas that used to come out every year. I hadn't touched the rest of these in about 20 years and just decided to jump back in. I also have pulled fabric for 4 red/white quilts to start on after Christmas.....How did I do this, I started shopping in Sept. and decorated some right before Thanksgiving. I had to set my priorities! lol Paula in KY
