cutting up the good stuff

Over the past few years I've collected a decent amount of Heather Ross fabric. I LOVE it because it's so cute, but I find that I don't use it because it's too cute. A few months ago I bought her new line, Kinder, but I told myself that I had to actually USE it if I bought it. Otherwise, what's the point, right?
I decided to combine 3 of her lines (Briar Rose, Tiger Lily and Kinder) plus a few other prints into what I hope will be one EPIC quilt. When I was chopping it up, I had to remind myself on a few occasions that "it's all just fabric!"
Working on the layout proved to be a little trickier that I was expecting, but I think it's coming along nicely. Phew! I'm using the measurements from my easy as pie tutorial, but I'm making a twin size quilt rather than a lap size. I'm very happy with my pattern choice so far. The simple design allows the fabric to do all the work. It definitely has a 70's color vibe, but I think I'll like it anyway. :)

Good for you! I have some Heather Ross fabric that hasn't been cut yet.
I better use it already!

Such a coincidence. Just 5 minutes ago I was writing an email to my mom, explaining how I had 2-3 boxes of new fat quarter bundles and some other precuts that I was "saving" for no good reason, other than they were just too pretty to use yet. Then I read your blog entry just now. I'm not the only "crazy" one, LOL. Thank you! Your quilt is looking GREAT! And I, too, love Heather Ross!! Enjoy making this new quilt. It's just fabric, it's just fabric, it's just fabric.......

That is looking lovely! Are those rectangles? Yes, 70's vibe, but that is beautiful.

I love when you revisit patterns of yours from the past. You get double stars for using fabric that is too cute. I am guilty of that too. The sad thing is that sometimes I wait so long that I don't find it as cute and then I wonder why I had it in the first place.

What's the point you ask? Well you know you can always take out the fabric your are hoarding and open it out caress it and then fold it up and put it away. It's a great way to get you happy. I am sure the quilt will get you happy too, but I must admit there is some fabric I can't bring myself to cut into. Weird I know!

I still have a complete fat quarter bundle of Briar Rose just waiting for me to be brave enough to make a quilt. I also feel like this with all my Bonnie and Camille fabrics, they are almost too good to cut. x

I feel this way about nail polish color and have been able to move past it only by reminding myself that its just nail polish, I'm not buying a car!

I think so many of us feel this same way - afraid to cut up our beautiful fabrics. I love your courage in cutting up Heather Ross (I have a ton of Mendocino hoarded away)! And I love how energetic your quilt is - I think the colors are great and the layout is coming along nicely.

I have many fabrics that I have had for a long time ... waiting for what? Not sure, just have to get the right inspiration.

I was a teenager in the '70s, so of course I think a '70s vibe is perfectly fine. :-) Love what you're doing with your Heather Ross fabric.

I love the colors! That is going to be a great quilt.
I hear you about the cutting up of collections of fabric. I am certainly guilty of it. Right now I am waiting for a house to be finished up, so my daughter and her family can move there. Then...I will be able to get into my stash full time and start cutting away! I've had to leave all the cutting sewing and quilting go by the wayside; there's no room right now!

Yes, I am determined to use some of "my precious" this year..otherwise years from now (many I hope) my kids will toss it in the Good Will bin and then what will become of it? ;-(
