mostly moody quilt top

Welcome to finish it up Friday!

I managed to finish sewing this quilt top together this week! I'm calling it mostly moody, at least for now. This quilt is a great representation of late fall weather...mostly moody, with little peeks of sunshine here and there. We've had SUCH a lovely fall in Minnesota this year, so I shan't complain. Winter is definitely on the way, ready or not.
The pattern is called Chain of Diamonds, from my book No Scrap Left Behind. I upsized the blocks, so they finish at 4" rather than the 2" that the pattern directs.

Background fabric: Kona shadow
Scraps: Mostly denim, chambray and a little bit of linen and quilting cotton
Finished size: 64" x 72"
288 blocks total
I have an idea for the back, which will probably take awhile, but if it works out I will be so pleased. I'm aiming for a two sided quilt in the end. What can I say? I like making the most of my batting dollar. Ha!
My little Lucy approves of the quilt top, too. :)

Well, that's it for me today! Now it's your turn to link up your finishes for the week. Thank you, as always, for joining me for finish it up Friday!

I really like the bright pops of bright yellow. It definitely has a moody feel to it. I look forward to seeing your piecing idea for the backing!

I love this. It is dramatic with the colors you’ve used! Is there any issue when you use denim and quilting cottons? Just thinking bout the different weights of fabric? I had thought about saving denim scraps when I repurpose jeans but didn’t think it would work to include them in a quilt. So this is helpful!

It turned out beautifully Amanda!! Was it difficult to piece with the denim?

That quilt reflects our weather today! Little sparkles of sunshine peeking through clouds. Love your finish! The yellow bits make the quilt.

There really is something moody about those greys with blacks and little points of yellow showing through here and there. I can't imagine the skill it required to keep these points, etc. all perfect!
