I can't believe that this is my first scrap vortex pillow. It's pretty fun! This is scrap project #139.
Simple and sweet patchwork never gets old! This is scrap project #140.
Another half-rectangle pillow, which is scrap project # 141.
And a fraternal twin to the previous pillow. It's not exactly the same, but I had to look carefully to make sure that I didn't post the same photo twice. :) This is scrap project #142!
You can see the previous pillows here, here, and here.
I already gave one pillow cover away, but here are the remaining 10. They look pretty dandy together! I'm actually excited to send them off to their new homes!
One of the great things about this project was that I was able to use up a lot of scrap batting....the pile shrunk considerably! I also discovered that I could use my leftover scraps of fusible interfacing (cut into 1" widths) and fused the batting pieces together, side by side. It's like a triple scrap elimination. I'll take that any day of the week!
I am quite pleased with how they turned out! But boy, that's a whole lot of pillows...even for me! :)
Your cushions are just so gorgeous! Is there a pattern link for the vortex one at all please? I am excited to find some ways to use up scraps!
ReplyDeleteYes, I do! Look under my quilt along page....I hosted a scrap vortex quilt along last summer. The links to each post are on that page. I hope you have fun with it!

"Triple scrap elimination"-------that cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteYou are an inspiration Thanks.
Love them!
ReplyDeleteFantastic group of pillows. Love the idea to join batting pieces with interfacing. I have two bags that can be used for this.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your pillows - and to think you used scraps, wow!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a peck o'purty pillows. Well done! Hope they are received with the joy that went into making them.
ReplyDeleteThey are all so pretty. And how good of you to give them away!
ReplyDeletegorgeous scrappy goodness! do you finish your pillows with an envelope back or zipper?
ReplyDeleteThese are all finished with an envelope backing. :)

Lovely and inspiring - I've got a few birthdays coming up and think I might make pillows - thanks
ReplyDeleteLove your scrap batting idea! What type of interfacing did you use? I probably have scraps of interfacing that could get used too.
ReplyDeleteI used light weight interfacing. Some is Pellon SF101, and then other random stuff I've had for years. I think lightweight is key.
DeleteHope that helps!

Great pillows! I'm inspired to make some of my own.
ReplyDeleteThe pillows are gorgeous! I love your fabrics and the Vortex one is my favorite! Nice getting them all done so quickly!
ReplyDeleteLOVE them all and you!😊
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteBravo! Mission accomplished, and are they ever beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am pretty tickled with the pillows on the bed. They are impressive individually but all lined up--wow!! I think in the scrap score keeping game, these should count thrice. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat perseverance! Beautiful pillows too! Now, happy recipients :)!
ReplyDeleteA whole lot of pillows ... or a whole lot of Crazy??? YOU decide LOL!!! They look fantastic CrazyMom -- what a pretty project! I love the scrap vortex pillow -- I've been toying with your scrap vortex idea but not sure I wanted to take the leap -- a pillow would be a great way to find out! (And on another note, are you going to market???)
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas for gifts and using up scraps x
ReplyDeleteI love these! Such a great way to practice piecing and free motion quilting for this novice! Thanks for the inspiration and tip on how to fuse batting scraps. I'm saving mine, but wasn't sure how to use them.
ReplyDeleteTotal gorgeousness!!!
ReplyDeleteIt might have felt like a bad idea at some point in the month-long effort, but oh my goodness! They are beautiful, and so worth it! The one pic looks like bowling pins lined up. All are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThey look so fun all lined up together!!! And wow, that is a lot of scrappy goodness!! Way to get them all done ;)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't they be beautiful together on a sofa? Forget about anyone sitting on it as it would just be a piece of art!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I tried to take a photo of them all on my couch, but they didn't fit very well. :)

Loved the photos of all of these pillows hanging out together! I have a few extra scrap vortex blocks hanging around, and I'm trying to decide if they'll become potholders, placemats or pillows...
ReplyDeleteThe pillows look great. I love using leftover interfacing to fuse scrap batting together. Way cheaper than the rolls of thin webbing they sell.
ReplyDeleteI love them all!! And they look perfect on that white quilt of yours...it's probably going to be hard to give them up :)
ReplyDeletewhat does it say about me that I was counting them before I scrolled down and saw that you have given one away??? They are absolutely beautiful! I wish I had your motivation. : ) Sew on!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. When you mail them, what do you use? I've only delivered pillows in person. I've made several scrap vortex quilts but never a pillow. I may just copy your idea. How ever did you refrain from mailing them as you finished them? That's what I call patience!
ReplyDeleteI will mail these...but the covers only. No way I would ship the full pillows! I waited to mail them because I wanted the picture of them all together! That was my main motivation for finishing them as well. :)
DeleteYou may have addressed this in a previous post but did you quilt the front of the pillow using barring? I'm assuming you used a pillow form
ReplyDeleteInsert. Great job!
Yes, I made the patchwork and then layered it on to batting. I quilted the piece, then added an envelope backing. There are pillow forms inside. That way, the covers are washable.
DeleteHope that helps!
They're all so so pretty. Lucky recipients. Great use of fabric and batting scraps. Love the idea of fusing smaller batting pieces together too. i wouldn't have thought of that.
ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful relationship with the making of throw pillows -- and I think your photos of the ones you made are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love all your pillows! And thanks for the tip on fusing batting together.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Jean - These are all so terrific looking! Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of all the cushions together! And thanks for the fusible tip for the scrap batting. I know what I'll be doing with all my scrap batting!
ReplyDeleteLove those cushions together like that, so pretty and cheerful!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of them all lined up like bowling pins. Strike! Did you zig zag the seams on the inside?
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's actually what I was thinking of when I photographed them in this order, haha! No, I didn't zig zag the edges.

ReplyDeleteThey look like little tin soldiers, shoulder to shoulder, all in a row. Perfect formation, beautiful creations. You're friends are fortunate to have you stitching up such a sweet gift.
I knew who it was when I saw all the pillows :):) I loved them all !!! (one of my weaknesses too) Don't u love the Scrappy !!
ReplyDeleteThey look gorgeous all together! Triple elimination is fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteALL of your pillows are so cute! If I had to choose a favorite I just couldn't do it. Congratulations on a job very well done.
ReplyDeleteI would keep them all!!!
ReplyDeleteI would have a hard time separating them. Recently I have been scrap busting and used up scrap batting as well. Great Idea on using the scrap fusible. I will try that next time.
ReplyDeleteYour pillows are beautiful and a great way to use of scraps. They all turned out great.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures. :)
ReplyDeleteA whole lotta pillows goin' on !
ReplyDeleteThe individual pillows are fantastic but, wow, they look great together! I love the photo with them stacked in the triangle pattern. Makes me want to start my own set though I don't have the perseverance. The small squares (#140) is just so sweet!
ReplyDeleteLove all of the pillows. Great project and you met your goals! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThose pillows will be welcome gifts! Thanks for the batting/interfacing tip too
