May is for makers // baby bibs

Welcome to finish it up Friday!

I've joined in the May is for Makers campaign. For each of the 5 weeks in May, the idea is to purchase a pattern from an independent pattern designer and work on that pattern throughout the week. I thought that was a great idea/challenge, so I joined in. It's definitely going to take some intention and follow through, but I'm excited about it, too! (This was started by Lindsay of LRstitched and you can read her post about it here.)
My first pattern purchase is The Best Bib, by JCasa. I've seen this cute bib pop up on the internet countless times over the years. Since I know a LOT of people having babies these days, I thought this was a great place to start! The shape of this bib is the cutest ever.
For some reason, I wasn't feeling scrappy when I made these (I don't know what's up with that, but I am concerned about it, hahaha!), so I kept it simple and made the bibs out of just two fabrics each.
This was my first attempt, following the pattern exactly as it was written. (That's super hard for me! Haha!!) It turned out pretty well! It's nice when you have cute fabric that does most of the work.
This is my second bib. I LOVE this fabric! I have a lot of it, so it wasn't too hard to cut into. (Yay!) For this version, I made the ties a little narrower (2 1/4"), a few inches longer, and I cut the tie pieces on the bias.
The pattern calls for a straight cut of fabric for the tie piece, but I found it was a little tricky to attach, even with the gentle curve of the neck line.
This one, with the fabric cut on the bias, was much easier to attach around the neckline. I did a little glue basting to keep the layers on the back in place while I stitched them down, which was super helpful. I love this fabric combination so much! Thankfully, I am not tempted to keep it, since I have no need for baby bibs at this time. :)

Now, I only have about 12 more to make.....

Are you joining in the May is for Makers challenge? If you are, I'd love to hear about it!

It's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

I chuckled when I heard you say it was hard to follow a pattern exactly. Me, too. I read through it, and immediately start thinking how to streamline or tweak it more to my liking. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I am definitely participating and have bought my first pattern for this month (though I had also bought one the last week of April, before we got going on this!) But the first pattern I bought is for a queen size quilt and I won't let myself start that until I finish the two I am working on..... I don't do well with too many projects stacked up.

The bibs are adorable!

The May is for Makers initiative is a wonderful idea! Yes, I am participating too. It's a lot of fun to search for cute patterns and make purchases to support the indie designers. I am just in love with your new makes, Amanda Jean. They are simply adorable!

What a cute little pattern - love how your bibs turned out! I have also joined in with May is for Makers. My first purchase was a noodlehead bag pattern and I have the next 2 already decided!

Sweet little bibs. I love you red dot for the ties on the second one. I'm doing the May is for Makers too. As a small designer myself it's time I do my part to support other small designers. Hard to narrow down all the great choices though.

Yes, I am doing May is for Makers too. I'll be purchasing from bloggers who I follow for their great ideas. I may not necessarily work on it each week, but will be making the purchase to say to them "your work has value"

Cute bibs. Too bad I have no more need for bibs.

This past week, I've been reminded that May is for gardening. I can't believe how the time flies when my preschooler and I are outdoors with out hands in the dirt. The good thing is, we've gotten a lot of our cool crops planted (though with the weather today one wonders why not skip right to the warm weather veggies.)

I'm busy making bibs right now too! Only . . .they are the allover kind. My client wants "coverage" :) Love your cute fabrics!!!

Cute bibs! That's my favorite bib pattern, and I make the same modifications that you did.

Hey, Amanda Jean! I'm asking myself when did you change your blog header to this nice clean--dare I say modern?--design? (I'm fearing that the answer is "ages ago" and I didn't notice :( I like it! And those bibs are adorable :)
