Welcome to finish it up Friday!
My kids have been home on spring break all week, so sewing time took a back seat....and that's ok! My kids are growing up (so fast!) and I wanted to soak up as much time as I could with them. I'm thankful that it's been a good week. We've had several spring breaks that were a little dicey. Ha!
I still needed a finish for today, so I turned these little ticker tape blocks (that have been a WIP for years) into a mini quilt. Each of the tiny scraps are fused to an Essex linen background with Lite Steam a Seam 2. It was not a quick process! I quilted it heavily, to ensure that the pieces would stay put. My daughter picked out the yellow binding. I was kind of on the fence about it, but now that it's finished, I love how it perks up the piece.
The mini measures 15 1/2" square and it's scrap project #131. This is the 3rd in my series of Frugal Gal Mini quilts. You can see the first one here and the second one here.
It's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday! Have a happy and blessed Easter! xo
Love the happy little mini rainbow in ticker tape!!! So cute!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish! I really admire ticker tape quilts, but I haven't made one yet. It's on the (seemingly never-ending) list of someday projects.
ReplyDeleteThe fact you were still able to have a finish this week is amazing! It is a bright and fun mini; do you have plans for it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun little piece of art! Love the idea of random pieces.
ReplyDeleteI love the name of your series, Frugal Gal! This mini and the others are so cute! Wow, so each block is only 5 inches? I need to reevaluate, I think, I'm throwing away precious and useful scraps because I want to make my own now.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to make a ticker tape quilt! Yours are reaffirming this desire - it is beautiful! Love the sections of colour. Thankyou for hosting Finish It Up Friday, I enjoy it so much! :) Hannah
ReplyDeleteYour daughter has a great sense of style and color. She chose a perfect binding: it picks up the polka dots in the ticker tape and really brightens the piece. Perhaps it should be going on a wall in her bedroom?
ReplyDeleteI love all your teeny tiny scraps projects, they're amazing. Thank you for sharing this with all of us
ReplyDeleteYour mini is so bright and cheerful! It also makes me regret all those small pieces of fabric I tossed. What a great idea to put them to use! I stumbled across your link up on another blog--thanks for hosting a great link up!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! So fun and cute, and a wonderful way to use this tiny pieces! Thank you for sharing and hosting the link party!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy when A gets credit for helping with the quilt process. What is the backing fabric? I bet this would be a fun QAYG ticker tape project.
ReplyDeleteI love it, and your daughter has a good colour sense. The design would make lovely placemats.
ReplyDeleteSmiles from
Kate
You inspire me once again. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove your finish for this week. Just wondering what your spools of thread are for. Are they just for color in your photo? or did you use them somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine a whole wall of these frugal gal mini quilts--so awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo totally adorable...I just love the blocks by color!
ReplyDeleteThe yellow was an inspired choice!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAmazing mini. So very colourful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that some of your spring breaks have been dicey. This one has been the pits. I'm hoping summer vacation doesn't drive me to the inpatient mental ward. I'm this close...
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow binding too! Your daughter chose well!!!
Cute mini, I love it, and your daughter was right about the binding fabric choice ;))
ReplyDeleteS nice you enjoyed your spring break. The kids do grow up too fast, and you can't go back, so savor every moment! Love your little mini. It's quite refreshing, and it's finished!
ReplyDeleteA sweet finish with your mini scraps....love your daughter's choices or the binding, the yellow polka dot is perfect!!! Enjoy your Easter weekend!! Happy stitching, Pauline
ReplyDeleteThank you Amanda Jean for always inspiring me. I am sewing the binding on my first Ticker Tape & am in love with it. Now I think a mini will need to be added to my list!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Each of the scraps is fused but you don't have to stitch all around the edge to secure it? I love this but have never done it, if it's on a quilt that's going to be washed a lot, should I stitch all around each piece? Can you I am not an applique person? Thank you, I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI finished one of your ticker tape quilts recently. It has been a great hit. I love your idea of fusing and then quilting. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!
