crazy mom quilts turns 9!

9 years ago today I started writing this blog. That is a whole lot of time sitting under a lap top and even more time sitting behind the sewing machine. I can only imagine how many miles of thread I've used! Needless to say, I had no idea what it would lead to...it has been quite a ride!

I've decided that this should be an interactive celebration! So, if you've been inspired by something you've seen here, I'd love it if you would share a link. It could be a link to something you've made based on one of my tutorials, patterns, my craftsy class, something from Sunday Morning Quilts, or even something you've sewn up with my fabric. I'd love to see what you've made! You can be certain that there will be prizes!

Thank you so much for being a part of this journey. It certainly wouldn't be the same without you. xoxoxox

Happy Monday to you!

  1. Congratulations, sweet friend! Celebrating nine wonderful, inspiring years of friendship, fabric, quilts and scrappy goodness with you! Couldn't resist linking a project I made a few years back using one of my favourite Crazy Mom Quilts patterns - scrappy diamond pillows. Thank you for being YOU - excited to see what the next 9 years will bring. :o)

Made Christmas tree skirt based on your Trees! pattern.

  3. R U knitting in the round using the magic loop method? I dont own any straight needles use the circulars for everything. Sorry I know this is not about sewing. Though I did purchase your craftsy class and liked it very much. I am a newbie quilter. Only completed 3 quilts so far, even quilting 2. I am on a roll! lol Thanks for all the inspiration. Kath

  6. Congratulations! I have a scrap vortex quilt on my brain, but probably won't get to it until after Christmas. Love your blog; it gives me lots of creative ideas.

  8. I have loved your scrap projects and have started one of my own after being inspired by both the idea of using ALL your scraps as well as your ability to blend lots of colors into one quilt to beautiful effect.

My scrap project is probably just a baby step into the scrap quilting world, but I'm using scraps to create "frames" for some Robert Kaufman vintage travel posters fabric.

  9. Nine years, that's amazing! You were one of the first, if not first, quilt blog I found. I remember that any spare moment I had, I was reading back through your posts because I just couldn't stop! :) Your Apple Cake is still probably one of my favorites of yours, it inspired me to try out hand sewing!

  10. Congratulations!! Your blog always inspires me. You have wonderful ways, of using up those scraps, and so many other beautiful projects. Keep it up :)!

  11. Congrats on nine years. That is a long time in blogging land. Shame on me, I did not even know about your Craftsy class, but I do now! I discovered you several months ago and now I think I'll spend some time reading through your archives. No telling what other good tid bits I've missed as a relative newbie to your blog. Thanks for keeping us inspired.

  12. Hi, Congratulations! Just came across your blog just about 2 years ago and I am always looking forward to it. I love the colours you use in your projects, I adore the scrap projects and have been inspired by using white. Hope you vare celebrating in style today☺

  13. I love all the pincushions. Sometimes its the little things that make us smile. Thanks for the inspiration!

  14. Congratulations! I don't have any pictures, but I wanted to say that your blog has inspired me to let my inspiration lead me. So that I can and will do that project what inspires me most at the moment. I have learned that it's "okay and normal" to have many projects in progress in the same time! In many blogs people just present their finished work so it leads to assumption that they all are finishing them in order. It´s also nice that you often tell when you have started particular quilt so that I too understand that these sewings are not always that fast how it feels when reading the post. So thank you for that :) In general your use of happy colors have inspired me a lot and is the main reason for becoming your reader.

  15. I am just now rediscovering sewing and discovering quilting and your blog is the best inspiration I've found! I love your great photos and I find myself imagining your birch trees so often that I ordered the pattern yesterday. Your bright clear lovely lines are a joy to look at and your writing is so good.

  16. The quilts shown in the added links are by far not the whole inspiration you gave me during the last years. Thanks a lot for sharing your creative ideas with us and please...go on!

  34. Nine years? Wow. I can think of a few ideas you have helped me with - vinyl, scrap vortex, ironing board covers. I might have added my own twists, but your posts encouraged me to give them a go.

  38. Congrats on that! I have been following you for almost that long! I'm not sure when it began, but it was one of the first blogs I started to follow and before the break you took! I can't think of a specific thing that you inspired, but I will say that your work as a whole, especially with scraps has always inspired me and I'm sure will continue to

  39. Congratulations on 9 years!
I made two of the one-a-day nine patch quilts that you had a tutorial for. The second one I made is kind of a rainbow and one of my favorite quilts I've made.

  42. Hello, Amanda! I am your reader from Russia. I think I started reading your blog almost from the time when you started it. We became friends via flickr.com I love visiting your blog, reading your posts, they inspire me. Your quilts are so fun and cheerful. I have four kids and I home school them, so I do not have time for quilting in this stage of my life. I also open my home for various Christian activities. So I enjoy just reading about quilting now and dreaming that some day I can spend time at my sewing machine again.

Congratulations on your 9th year of blogging!

    Hugs,

    Maria

  43. As a beginning quilter, I made a zigzag quilt using your tutorial that does not include HSTs, as I had never done those before and just knew I wouldn't be able to match all those points. It turned out great and was such a confidence booster!

  49. Congratulations on 9 years! You have inspired me in so many ways but I don't have anything to link up right now. Your posts are so up beat and cheerful, like the fabric. I spent time earlier today sorting my scraps so they will be easier to use. Maybe soon I'll be able to show something. Thank you so very much for sharing with us!

  52. Wow, that is a very long time in the blogging world! You were the first quilt blog I started following some 5 years ago when I decided to start quilting. You were my helper, via your awesome binding tutorial, on my first and consecutive quilts, until I finally understood what I was doing! :) Thank you again for your help!

  57. WOW! Congratulation! Your blog is a go to blog for me! Inspiring, fun and amazing all rolled in to one!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Congratulations. I can only imagine how many people you have inspired, me being one of them. Love your scrappy style and have created so many things from your inspiration. I don't have a blog yet but hope to set one up soon. I created your birch tree quilt for my sister for her 50th birthday, finished another large square towards my scrap vortex quilt last night and so many more I can't even think of. The downside is I have so many more QIP because of your scrap savy - but that's okay - I just love to play with scraps between projects.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I made a vortex quilt 110 X 100"! I'm waiting to have it quilted on a longarm since it's too big and too scrappy to do on my machine or by hand. It took 4 months to make but I love it! Thanks for the idea.

  60. Happy Anniversary! Your blog inspires me to step out of my (quilting) comfort zone, and I appreciate that. I've made several teeny pincushions from your cute patterns: thank you for sharing them with us.

Here's to nine more years (and counting!)

  62. I started following you the day I discovered your book 3 or 4 years ago. I love your work, the way you write, and the fact that you are always positive. You're single handedly responsible for my new addiction to scrap-busting postage stamp quilt blocks - thank you! Congratulations on your 9th birthday, may there be many more. Only one downside to your blog: I can't comment using my WordPress ID, Blogger boots me off. It doesn't mind my Google ID, thank goodness.

  63. Congratulations Amanda Jean. Thank you for all the inspiration. 9 years is amazing not to mention a lot of hard work. I certainly look forward to all the inspiration you will offer us well into the future. Some say blogs are dead but I couldn't disagree more as they are so much more personal and informative than other social media sites. Keep up all the great posts.

  65. Cheers to you! I have been quilting only about 4 years and without the quilting blog world I would be lost! I have learned so much from women like you. In fact, I found your blog through another post a year or so ago where another blogger was posting something about your work. I've been inspired by your new craft line and started a mini quilt with it this weekend and hope to give it as a holiday gift. LOVED the pin cushion blog hop so much!!!!

  70. You know - I have followed your blog for most of those 9 years, however, I can't think of 1 specific project I have made completely from your posts. I take pieces from what you do and apply them to what I'm making. For years - I referred back to your binding tutorial every time it was time to put a binding on a quilt. What - I take that back - I did make a chevron baby quilt and I believe that came from your blog! (at least I hope it did - LOL). Know that I have used a ton of your tips and tricks!!! Thanks so much!

After these were all sewn up into a quilt, the quilt was donated to the local Veteran's Hospital. This was a fun project and we enjoyed diving into our stashes for the different colors.
