Welcome to finish it up Friday!
First off, thank you so very much for all your kind comments on my 9 year blog birthday post. I appreciate each and every one! xo
Today I've got a few mini quilts to share. I came up with this design to go with my good neighbors fabric line. I had to test out the pattern on other fabric first, so I have two versions to share. One with a scrappy background and one without. I love seeing different versions of a single pattern anyway, so it all works out! :)
I went through some trial and error before landing on the right proportions.
block 1--the corner cut outs are a little too big...the mug looks tippy.
block 2--the corner cut outs are a little too small--you can barely see them.
block 3-just right! (This is, of course, after I made several coffee cups that were huge and some resembled beer steins. True story...they were hideous! Haha!)
And here is the good neighbors version! It has a single background rather than a scrappy one.
For this version, I quilted it with wavy lines (stitch #19 on my Janome Horizon) which kind of looks like steam rising. Isn't that fun? I love how different the two versions are! SO many possibilities.
The pattern can be purchased here and there are kits of the good neighbors version available here.
This one hangs in my kitchen/dining room and I smile every time I see it! I love it so much!
I have plans to make a whole quilt (lap size or larger!) out of these mini coffee mugs....some. day.
Now it's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Aww they're so cute, especially the version with the scrappy background. I'm sure there's potential in the beer stein version too - maybe for Oktoberfest!!
ReplyDeleteThose are just so cute!!!
ReplyDeletemy coffee cup is jumbo sized holding about the same a 2-3 of a regular one so if I made this quilt I'd get to mix scale which is a favorite thing to do! Happy belated 9 years - you are headed to double digits.
ReplyDeleteLove them! In fact, I liked all your tries! 9 years blogging is wonderful... this is my third year. Congratulations! derussell22 at gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThose are super cute mugs!
ReplyDeleteThose mugs are adorable! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern so much Amanda, and of course it is perfect in your fabrics!!
ReplyDeleteI was just talking today with a creative who was reminding me that sometimes our ideas take several attempts to come to fruition. Thanks for keeping it real. I like seeing the evolution of your work. Always!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. Did you appliqué the handle or piece it?
ReplyDeleteI love how the fabrics can change a project like this. It's great fun, and might be an amazing block for a few mug rugs as well. I'll definitely have to look into purchasing it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work with us.
ReplyDeleteIf I had time I know at least three people I could make this for for Christmas gifts. Maybe birthdays instead!
ReplyDelete(I think my first post was lost so sorry if you have it twice!)
ReplyDeleteI like that! I was wondering if you had a preference for your white background fabric? There is nothing appropriate at my local store and I don't know what people buy online?
Thanks!
Super cute. I think I will make a collection of Christmas mugs. :)
ReplyDeleteI always love to see your small quilts. Thay are all super cute.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the scrappy background! Beautiful work as always.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is always welcome! Beautiful dedign, and your testing was worth it :)
ReplyDeleteLove the coffee mug quilt! So sweet.
ReplyDeleteSuch a neat quilt. I like the scrappy back ground one...
ReplyDeleteWhat do you do with all the orphan mugs? Its not like you can throw them in the cupboard for a coffe gathering?
Love, love, love your cups! And Happy Blogiversary to you! You give so much to the quilting community, and that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove your coffee cups! I don't know how it happened but yesterday I was able to post to last week's Finish It Up Friday but today I can't post to this week's. It seems odd but it's really okay since I was able to give a nod to your 9th anniversary. It's wonderful to see all the things you've done with quilting. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteboth versions work very well, I presume you appliqued the handles on one day I hope to have something to post to finish friday
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I always love your color choices!
ReplyDeleteYou come up with the cutest ideas! cdahlgren at live dot com
ReplyDeleteI definitely vote for the scrappy background. It sets off the different mugs better.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I like seeing it done in different fabrics too.
