be positive hoop art

Welcome to finish it up Friday!
I've had two empty embroidery hoops (found and purchased at a local thrift store) hanging on my sewing room wall for months. Yesterday, I finally filled one and I love it so! I'm guessing that hoop art is on it's way out, because if I've made one, that is a sure sign. Ha! But, to quote my daughter, "it don't matter!" I love the low volume scrappy patchwork paired with hand quilting and dense machine quilting. Since I am lacking in the embroidery skills department, (it's true!) I free-motion quilted the words instead. It was so much faster and I had better results. I love this project so much!!! It's hanging on my sewing room wall and it is scrap project #114.

It was so fun to try something new! That being said, I have a feeling that next week I'll be back to pincushions! :)

Now it's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Oh my goodness, that is so fantastic!!! I have a 4 embroidery hoop set in my drawer that I totally didn't know what to do with (not much of a stitcher) and you have totally inspired me to pull them out and fill them up!! Thank you!!!

I think it's gorgeous and what a wonderful way to use up your low volume scraps. Your free motion quilting is fabulous, mine is horribly wobbly!!

that is really cute - love it. My daughter did a needle point for me that she put in a hoop and I have hanging on the wall but I hadn't thought to do one with a small quilt

I love it! You free motioned that embroidery?? I'm so impressed. I'm not a great embroiderer, but I'd have to do mine by hand because I'd never be able to do the free motion as beautifully as you did yours! Just lovely!!!

I think hoop art is pretty big! I love that yours is quilted, which adds so much more dimension. I also love the message amidst the calming neutral scaps. Great idea to free motion quilt the words = faster!

It's beautiful! And yes, I still have some hoop art, and agree with your daughter--it don't matter!

Such a great idea! My motto is something like that, " Be Positive or BE QUIET!" I may have to stitch that too!

I would totally FMQ the words, too. It is so cute and what a great piece to hang in your sewing space. :)

I really like checking your blog and seeing all the neat things that you come up with to make out of scraps....especially these low volume projects !

But I DO NOT LIKE the pop-up advertisement that redirects me to an advertiser's page and won't bring me back ! I hope you decide to remove this, or I will miss your blog very much !

Your hoop sat - a fantastic idea and ideal as a gift for birthday or Christmas. I think I may use your idea, if I may, for two soon to be birthdays!

This is fabulous. I really don't think hoop art is on its way out. I think it is enjoying a resurgence. And I also can't believe you FMQ'd those words. Beautiful!

words of wisdom you have used here. I have also seen hoops used in a sort of bag one round th bottom and one round the top which work quite well

Ok . . . why have I never thought of putting a quilt into a hoop as a finished piece? Love the idea.
