When the folks at Olfa asked if I would like to try out one of their new Splash rotary cutters and blog about it, I just couldn't say no! The name "splash" and the fun color scheme had me hooked immediately. I have a quilt called Splash (shown below, it's a pattern in Sunday Morning Quilts) that matches the new cutter exactly. That is pretty fun!
I've been using the rotary cutter for a month or so and I'm loving it! It features a quick change blade, which is super simple to use. I tried it out just to see how it works (not because my blade was dull) and I like the ease of use. The cutter is light weight, but still sturdy. The contoured handle is wonderful! I cut with both my left and right hands intermittently and it works equally well in both. (Dare I say that only lefties can truly appreciate that?) Last but not least, did I mention that I love that it's aqua? Oh, I probably did. :)
I usually dread cutting, but between a cute new cutter and my new counter height cutting table, (see below) I've actually started to enjoy the process. In fact, I've started a few new habits. Whenever I cut for a project, I cut out a few extra 3" squares. When I'm ironing, I'll grab a scrap or two out of one of my many scrap baskets, press them, cut out a few 3" squares and add them to the pile. Between those two new habits, eventually I'll have enough squares to sew together into a quilt.
It's kind of like leaders and enders, but on the cutting front. It's a (feeble?) attempt to get my scraps under control. Because there is a teeny tiny chance that I might possibly have a scrap problem. Maybe. :)

I have the same cutting table as you and I really love it - perfect height and great size. I've been thinking I should be cutting my scraps into a shape to sew up later, but I still have to decide what that shape is. One day I'll get there!
I recently bought one on sale. However, it seemed to have developed a gap and doesn't cut cleanly. Will change out the blade to see if that helps. Cutting out all the pieces for a Judy Niemeyer design means I need a good blade.
The color of this cutter is so bright and fun! I can't wait to change the blade on it for the first time. I also enjoy cutting my strips and squares as I go in hopes my scraps will be contained also. Thanks for the chance to win a rotary cutter.

Very cute, im always amazed at how much simpler cutting seems with a fresh blade. even better if you dont have to slice yourself while replacing it. those leader enders add up quick, before you know it you will have a quilt.

I started three months ago to cut my fabric that was less than a 1/4 yard and fabric that I no longer like into 25" strips. I have made a Scrappy Trip Around the World but now I realize that it will take forever to use up all these strips. I think I'll cut four and two inch strips from now on. It might be easier to use them up.
I have been wanting to try that cutter! I am looking forward to making raspberry jam tomorrow. Just picked a bowlful from our patch.

I've always been too afraid of trimming my scraps into a certain square size. What if I need them to be a different size? But I guess if you have a quilt in mind it makes sense.

This week I'm looking forward to getting together to sew with some friends. We call ourselves the Bostwick Babes after one of our favorite quilting authors. I'm looking forward to getting the new Splash rotary cutter when our local quilt shop has sale prices for the ladies in our end of July retreat.
I'm looking forward to Saturday night. My son will be at a sleepover and my husband is working, which means a whole evening of guilt free sewing for me!
My 6 year old granddaughter and I are starting a quilt for her where she will be learning cutting and simple sewing. She has the sewing down pretty good but wouldn't it be a fun cutter for her to add to her sewing box that I started for her at Christmas. It contains mainly thread and this would help it grow.
