I'm not normally an embroiderer, even though I have all the supplies. (Funny how that works, isn't it?) As a child I embroidered a few dish towels, but not much beyond that. It is a skill that I would like to have in my repertoire.
Things I like about this book....
There are tons of cute patterns! A set for girls and a whole other set for boys. It's really hard to find good boy stuff, if you ask me. It totally passed the test with my boys.
Kristyne offers basic guidelines and options, then she encourages you to choose the method that works best for you. I love that! It's so much better than a rigid set of do's and don'ts.
The book is wonderful for beginners (that's me!) but I would imagine that it would be equally wonderful for a well experienced stitcher.
I love that the projects are stitched up into QUILTS! (A big shock there, huh?) Beyond that, there are other options shown: pillows, soft toys, clothing and framed pieces. So many fun ideas!

I love to do embroidery and counted cross-stitch. With embroidery, however, there is no need to keep referring to a chart for all the stitches. I find embroidery to be very relaxing and I can take it with me and stitch just about anywhere.

My thoughts on embroidery? It is therapeutic and soothing. Embroidery can be used in so many ways. I love to put my words down on fabric and embroider them for the future generations to uncover.

Looks like a great book full of fun projects. When my son was young he also did some stitching. He did a dinosaur on a pillow case. I think it's great when kids learn. I have four projects this year that combine piecing with embroidery. I'm not sure how that happened. hehe.

Growing up my mom embroidered many designs in shirts and coats for my brothers and I. They were so awesome! She taught me how to embroider and I remember it being fun and challenging. As I got into my teens and 20s I did cross stitch wall hangings - lived that! And now I haven't done any of it for 20 years. I have gotten into quilting, however. And think the 2 would go hand! By the way, I think you did a great job on your kitty and words! I will now have that song stuck in my head all day.

I love the Big Bang Theory reference! I have an embroidery machine, but it isn't the same detailed look as hand embroidery. I love binding and other work to do by hand, so I would probably enjoy embroidery, too.

Wow! A modern book of embroidery! My nana taught me cross-stitching and embroidery when I was little maybe 6 or 8. I still enjoy pulling needle through cloth. In fact, when I first started quilting by hand I didn't know I had to do the running stitch and my quilt front was beautifully embroidered but my quilt back was hideous!

The patterns in the book look so cute and tempting, it would be great to try some embroidery.
My grandmother did the most beautiful embroidery and I am lucky to have many of her pillows are a quilt that she did cross stitch on. I wish we had lived closer so she could have taught me. She grew up in a convent. The nuns taught her and her embroidery was perfect.
I really enjoy hand work . . . hand quilting, English paper piecing, and embroidery. I put the embroidery aside for many years to learn more about quilting, but have just picked it up again. I would love to hone my skills with this book!

Good for you. Years ago I taught myself to knit after reading a book by Agent 99 from Get Smart. It was about always using a life change (in my case-empty nest syndrome) into an opportunity. Trying something new isn't just for life changing events, but is sure does renew your spirits and outlook on life when things go well. So, good for you! AmandaJean, have been out of town past week so stopped by to see what you were up to and I had to laugh. Last weekend before I left my 19yo dtr, who learned the basics when she was 9, gave my 9yo dtr and myself an embroidery lesson. While 19yo was a bit rusty from not stitching the past 5 years, she taught us what she knew and admitted she had forgotten it was relaxing and fun. For our first project of course we stitched tea towels, with Scotty dogs since that was the simplest transfer pattern we had. The 9yo absolutely ran with it, has outstitched us, and moved on to her next towel. So will definitely have to look for this book. Thanks for the great family-tested review! Y'all have a great week! I've done needlework, largely cross stitch growing up. It wasn't until recently that I've done embroidery (and applique too) and I love, love, love it. I can take it with me while I sit and wait as I pick up and transport all my littles around town and to and from school. It is so relaxing.

My mother thought my sister and I should learn to stitch as young girls. Back then I preferred spending time with my pony.
Making quilts for children is fun, adding stitchery to personalize the quilt adds to the cute factor, and is fun.

Embroidery is something I'm just starting to explore. I have all the supplies too! I keep picking up hoops from thrift stores. My kids are all anxious for me to show them what to do. It would be great to have a goo reference with ideas for projects.

When I started doing patchwork I was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of stitchery. Now I love adding stitches to my appliqué and doing the occasional stitched piece. I would never say that I do embroidery. I would love to win the book. The pictures are very cute.

My grandma taught me how to embroider at 6 years old, and I have loved it ever since. I am excited that this book has boy stitchy patterns. I would love to add some to a quilt for my boys!
