Welcome to finish it up Friday!
Today I'm happy to share a finished quilt called Paint Chips. This quilt was a collaboration between Cheryl and myself. It's featured (along with the story of how Cheryl and I came to write a book together) in the February 2013 issue of A Quilt Life Magazine. The quilt design was mostly Cheryl's concept, if I recall correctly. I worked out the final measurements and pieced the top-using scraps-of course! Then I sent it to Cheryl and she quilted & bound it. She sent it off to Colorado for photography. It took a detour back to Canada and eventually it ended up back at my house. It was so fun to get it back-and completely finished, too! (It's pretty fun to see it in print!)
Cheryl did a great job of quilting it, using a wood grain pattern for the background and straight line quilting in the colored sections. This project (the featured article, at least) has been in the works since last May at quilt market. We made the quilt at the end of last summer. So, here we are in January with a completely completed project! I Love it! :)
edited to add: there is a pattern for the paint chips quilt included in the article, if you would care to make one of your very own.
How about you? If you have a finish to share, please link up! Hope you have a fabulous Friday!

I love it! It's brilliant!
Always nice to see you published. Love the simplistic yet scrappy quilt and especially that it was collaborative makes it more special.
That is a beautiful quilt.
ooooh, this quilt is beautiful. Love how well all these colors look together and the gray background is perfect.
It's so gorgeous!
I am always amazed at the variety of designs that come from you! You never disappoint with your color and fabric choice!
Congratulations on your publication and getting such a lovely quilt back!
I love your photography - inspires me to try a bit harder with my pictures this year :)
I think this is my favourite of all your quilts (to date, of course!). Maybe it's the background colour working so well, or the bright white in between the colours. But it's just perfect!
And congrats on being published.
Really neat quilt & what a great way to use up scraps!
Gorgeous!! Where did those purple scraps come from?
This quilt is beautiful. Just came across the "Finish it up Friday". Definitely something I need to get on board with!! :)
A really beautiful quilt. I love colours, and this will "bright" me up.
AMAZING! If we wanted to make this, is there any where we could purchase the pattern and instructions???
I love your purples and oranges. I have only one purple printed among all the fabric. I order a stash of solid from connecting thread last year and try to my best to use purple and oranges, but I am bias on using them... Maybe you have some tips that you have could share with us in the future.
p.s. I finished a set of patchwork organizers this week and use up some small scraps...
Congratulations on getting it published! What a wonderful quilt. I love your striped trees quilt too - very original! I will have to follow in your creative footsteps :-)
Very pretty!!
You are a Quilt Star!!
So nice to have the quilt back and published!
You and Cheryl is so talented and inspires me all the time.
Big Hug!
I absolutely love this one - will you have it available in your Etsy shop for those who cannot get a hold of the magazine?

Great quilt. Even before I saw the name of the pattern I was thinking 'paint chips'.
oh I like this ALOT!
What a fun quilt! No finishes for me this week (boo). I was asked to remove my sewing stuff from the dining room, so I've been setting up a craft area in the upstairs office.
It is just gorgeous.
A work of art, just lovely to look at. Thanks for sharing!!!
It's a great quilt! I love it! I did not know you were featured in that mag. Good job! I will have to go get one now. Is it the most current issue? Great concept and execution!
Absolutely fantastic! What an awesome idea and follow through. I love it!
Beautiful quilt! I love the concept.
Fantastic design and gorgeous quilt. I love the quilting too. You two should collaborate more :) Congratulations!
You (and Cheryl!) just have so many great ideas!! I love this quilt. Looking forward to seeing your projects this year!
Wow! That quilt earned a few stamps in its passport! Is the wood design quilting done over the paint chips too?
Great quilt! Can you tell me which solid grey you used please?
Love the paint chip quilt :)
Love the quilt. What really makes it for me is all of that gorgeous negative space.
You deserve such wonderful things, like having your quilts published in magazines and having a book! You are such an inspiration! :)
I don't understand why you didn't answer a few of us when we asked about getting this pattern.
Carol,
I'm very sorry! The pattern is in the issue of the magazine (details above).
