whirlygiggle

So, I started a new project on Saturday. I was trying really hard to get down to 9 WIPs before embarking on something new, but I broke down and gave in. I'm very excited to be using fabric that is NEW while it is still new. What a concept! (I still have a FQ set of Sherbet Pips that I haven't touched yet. And Ruby, too. I just can't keep up!) This fabric line is A Walk in the Woods by the charming Aneela Hoey. The fabric is so sweet and soft. I just love it. For the pattern I started with my whirlygiggle block tutorial that I tweaked just a bit, so no trimming this time around. Bonus! I'm forcing myself to not rely on white as a background (as much as possible) so I made the blocks interlock instead. I like the results very, very much! It's gonna be one sweet little baby quilt.

Please excuse my daughter...she couldn't pass up the opportunity to pose in a silly manner for the camera. :)

Happy Monday to you!

On first seeing this I thought you'd made it using one of those twister rulers but I see you did it from scratch. Very impressive! it would have done my head in interlocking each block!

So cute! The daughter first, AND the quilt :D

I love the simplicity of your white backgrounds, but this is just right. And for a baby quilt, maybe less white is a good idea. (I'm thinking of stains... chuckle.)

I hear your pain about all the WIP. I have a beautiful jelly roll of Sherbet Pips that I am so in love with and it sits so pretty all bundled together still!

I love the new fabric of hers. It is darling! I love what you did with it!

Would you mind sharing the "tweak" to the pattern... I read some of the comments from the original whirlygig post, and can't make heads or tails of it. Your instructions are always so manageable!! Thanks for sharing :)

Very cute CrazyMom! I'm fighting the urge to start about 10 new things - there's so much out there and I can't keep up either. I have way too many collections sitting unused! Can't wait to see this finished quilt!

I really like the look of the interlocking colours. I was hoping you could explain how you go about the construction to make sure the colours work well together? If I were to take on a project like this I feel I would get the orientation of the pieces all mixed up and have multi-coloured cross-pinwheel-things. Thanks!

I have some new fabric too, that I better get busy with, or it will be old when I do...hehehe
I ready to get started on a new quilt.
I look forward to seeing what you create with your whirlygiggle pattern.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth

This is very timely since I have a shoe box full of cut fabric to do the whirlygiggle quilt (yep it's been in the box for three years) I figure I have to get it made before baby #5 arrives so that I can get the room done for child 3 and 4. I did make a baby version of the whirlygiggle but got some of the blocks messed up as I didn't cut them the same side up. I will try to figure out how you did this without the white (since cutting all the white isn't done yet!!) THanks.

i have been meaning to try a whirlygig quilt myself, but havent gotten around to it. I love that fabric line. the combination of the blue, red and pink is way too cute. looks great!

The quilt is awesome. I'd love to try it. Is it difficult? As for your daughter, they are only young and silly for a short time, so let it all happen. :)

I should make a quilt using that pattern.

LOVE it (and your daughter too).
How do you "arrange things" so you don't have to trim. (I hate trimming blocks)

Very fun! Love Abby, she's adorable.
PS Did you move your sewing machine? I thought you had it under the window?

Christine said...

I too would love the tweaked measurements. I absolutely love the look of the interlocking blocks. Speaking of that, how did you plan the piecing? Did you just put it on your wall as you sewed?

My mom gave me some fabric for Christmas. It's really only two colors along with some white And, the prints tend toward big. I wonder how they would look using that pattern.

This is such a cute little quilt! I love the interlocking colors, even though I usually tend to be one to like white in a quilt. But this is great!

Are you thinking of sharing how to tweak the "whirlygiggles" to make them interlock? I'd love to try them :o)
