This is what one corner of my craft room looked like at about 4 pm yesterday afternoon. (Pardon my one not so willing model and the blurry photo!)
This is what it looked like at about 9 pm yesterday night.
And this is what it looked like at about 4 pm today.
Boy, I'm tired!
I've been wanting to revamp my craft room for
months, but I could never pull myself away from my 101 projects long enough to do it. It has been in quite a state of disarray for some time now, so I finally bit the bullet and decided to jump right in. As I've been priming the red walls (hate THAT job!), I'm thinking about what I want it to look like. I think I need LESS storage. Sounds crazy, but the more storage I have, the more I'm going to fill up. I'm thinking yellow walls. White trim. Full design wall. I'm excited about seeing it come together! I have a prediction...being that it's my craft room, I bet it comes together in record time. At least that's the hope!

Big job! But more fun when it is a from you spend time in. Yellow wales will certainly be a bright, cheery change from the dark colors! Have fun
I finished my craft room recently and it has yellow(ish) walls and white trim. :) Yes, very nice to work in.
Yellow walls! Boy I hate spell check on this iPad!!!
I love the idea of a cheery yellow room with white trim -- something I'm hoping for when I finally get a craft room in about three years.
Fabulous...your going to love the room.... it will look so sweet with yellow walls, very inspirational too.
Hugs Dawn x x x
How fun to revamp your space! Can't wait to see the "after" pictures.
In your first picture, is that a design wall on the right? Did you make it, and how do you attach it to the wall? Inquiring minds want to know :-)
That'll be so nice to work in once it's finished! I have crafted under dark walls and it wreaks havoc with your perception of colour, especially at night. Can't wait to see it all done!
I gave up my craft room a few months ago so that we could turn it into a nursery. I primed the walls. Goodness that stuff stinks. I can only imagine how tough it'd be to cover red!
sounds like great fun!
It will feel like someone has switched on an extra light after those dark walls well done and keep up the good work!
Good for you!!!
Hooray for redoing your space! Yellow with white trim will be so bright and cheerful. Can't wait to see it finished!

I think yellow walls will really show your work of nicely. Good Luck on your big project!
I'm dreading ever having to paint over our red walls. The work to get them to red with grey basecoat....the process is just as much to reverse the situation! Oh well, all good decisions at the time. Enjoy!
That is such an exciting project. All that work will be so worth it! I would LOVE to have a yellow craft room.
Oh wow! That change in color is going to change so much about your space including light. Or especially light. I really appreciate what you said about needing less storage. I am learning that I really don't need to acquire stash at least not to just have it just because.
I read that the latest "hot" color combination is buttercreme with white trim. Sounds lovely to me! Surely it will brighten up the room much more than red.
Sometimes inspiration just strikes and you just have to go for it. I bet it will be lovely when it's done.
can't wait to see the end result!
awesome, and so envious you have a room. can't wait to see the outcome.
oh my, that looks like quite the undertaking...
I love the look on P's face and I think A knows he's joking. LOL
J said when he saw P's shirt, "I thought I was driving the monkey" lol
Well ther is no dust on you!!! Yellow will be lovely!! After getting some Strawberry Fields, I am feeling the urge to paint my kitchen yellow and trim everything in strawberries!!
Painting always looks easy when someone else is doing it (lol), the preparation always takes me the most time. I think you will love it when you're finished Amanda. Your models are adorable, we have a boy and a girl too.
It will be so nice! I love yellow!
Oh, it's going to be gorgeous - and look so much bigger!! Imagine the things you'll create!!!!
I thought the red walls were very cool (I had a "red licorice" wall in my bedroom). But I think you will love the yellow walls with white trim. (I also have a yellow bedroom and it is very cheery.) Very cute models, by the way. :)
OOoh, how exciting! I love yellow walls with white accents. Getting new shelves and placing things nicely can make me feel like it's a whole new room!
Priming red = yuck so congrats on getting that far! It'll be exhausting but worth it. And yes, LESS storage!
My brother, who's a painter said you have to prime red walls with silver to keep the red from showing through. I hope he's not right, for you...
Your room will look very happy when you finish.
Oh a big design wall sounds great and less storage is good. I have just finihed decluttering my cave.
I LOVE your model. Boys are like that. LOL
Looking forward to seeing your sewing room finished.
What a difference the color on the way makes. It will be so much brighter in there it will make you more creative. I love rearranging things every now and then, it helps clean up, reorganize, and it finds those things that need to be done that you forgot about too. Will watch for the finished product.
My daughter's room is a soft yellow and I love it...I'm also terribly envious of your craft room. I dream of the day I have a quilt room all to myself..with a door..that locks..and is soundproofed (sigh).
You can do it!! Looking forward to seeing it all done (or at least the next phase). Hope you get a little sleep tonight!! Smiles~Beth
Wow, what a great project! I love seeing the primed walls, and imagining your great color palette with the fresh yellow with white trim. Your full design wall is going to be fab.u.lous! I never thought about having more storage as being a problem, but I totally understand now. Definitely going to keep that point in mind. Can't wait to see your transformed studio!!
Very exciting! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
I love yellow and white! My office is yellow and white and we're gearing up to do the kitchen the same. It's like having sunshine year-round, which is kind of important if you live in the Midwest like us! :)
Too funny about your model :) but love seeing the pics of them!
Yellow walls and white trim are my dream colors for a sewing room too. Someday I hope to have one again, and that room has BURGANDY and DARK GRAY walls, so I'll be doing the priming job too! Don't wear out your arms with all that painting--save some strength for crafting up a storm later, lol!
Yellow and white trim will be lovely. That's exactly my colors in my studio. It's light, bright and clean.
Woot! Woot! Good for you! Can't wait to see it when it is done.
Deborah
I love yellow! It is my favorite color right now. I'd paint my living room yellow if I could. So cheery and bright. I can't wait to see the finished room.
Oooooo....I'm so excited for you!!
It's got to be hard to stop for long enough to repaint but in the end you know you'll love it.
Looking good...you are more ambitious than I feel at the moment! Way to go I can't wait to see the finished room.
Congratulations! Way to work, wise woman! I'm interested to hear your comment about less storage. I'm still trying to organize how I want my sewing room, so thanks for that thought to consider.
A.dor.a.ble kids!
where ever did you get those life size children models. Adorable, I'd like a couple for myself.
Looks great...please post after pictures :o)
My walls are taxi cab yellow with white trim. The hallway walls are white still. When the sun comes in that room, the yellow is cast out into the hallway and it really looks sunny due to the reflected yellow. I have Mountain Dew label green curtains hanging. When I have them pulled shut and it is sunny, my 15 year old says she feels like she is walking into a Mountain Dew bottle.
The room is bright and cheery and I am very happy with it, but it will throw your colors off. It really reflects.
Well done you! Looks like a lot of work but it will be well worth. Glad you chose such a bright colour, it's nice to work somewhere light and cheery! I have a craft table not a room so I'm very jealous ;) I can't wait to see how it turns out.
I have yellow walls and white trim in mine :o) Very bright and happy!!!!! It is Valspar glided endive. Super light yellow. I can send you a pic if you like :o)
I would love for you to come to my house and paint...you are a powerhouse!!!!!!
Kim
A change like that is always fun, but definitely a lot of work. It's hard to take a break from the projects to do it, though. Can't wait to see it finished.
Great job! I am on vacation this week and am doing the same to my sewing room. It is well worth it!
Wow -- that's a big job! And a great theory about the storage. I have too many shelves -- and too much junk all over them. Good Luck -- can't wait to see the end result!
Red walls--oh boy! That would bug me to no end for sure. Can't wait to see it all done!!
Congrats to you for diving in! My sewing room needs painting SO badly but I hate to take the time away from sewing. One of these days...
Can't wait to see the result, and you may be onto something with the less is more storage approach, I am curious....
New paint always makes me feel so good!!! :) Good luck.
Yay for positive change!! :D Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see the completed room!
I predict that your new look (when you get it done) will inspire you to even more and better projects!
I am redoing a bedroom and I am painting the furniture yellow. I am on my third coat to try and cover the pieces. I did prime them. If you go with yellow I would love to know what brand of paint you use and how you thought it covered. I am using Behr (spelling?). Maybe it would work better on the walls than it does on furniture!
You'll enjoy it so much more when you're done! I know I did when I gave my sewing room a face lift! Mine was out of necessity though. Needed to move my big quilting machine & frame out of the guest room so we could have company. I documented my change too ... http://kwinrc.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-sewing-room.html
I might see you at the retreat in Nov!
Wow! You finally did it!
Okay, so the walls are great, but I have to say that the ladder quilt you had up on your wall is just adorable! I can't wait to see that one completely finished! :D
can't wait to see your "new" room :o)
I always love seeing others creative spaces! Can't wait to see the finished product!!! :)
I love yellow and white. You'll like it when it is done!
Good for you! When I get the energy, I may follow suit, but maybe not....LOL.
I look forward to seeing upcoming updates on your "new" room.
Have fun!
Hugs, Karen
Congratulations! I don't envy you the job. I am in a room that still has clouds on the wall from being my son's bedroom when he was five! It is not my "permanent" space. So, I refuse to let myself decorate it.
The room I will go to in the next year or two is actually painted bright yellow and THAT will go before I move so much as a spool of thread in there.
I loved your red but can see that might get wearing. Good luck with your progress.
I would say I agree with the storage thing...the more I space I have, the more chance it is going to accumulate stuff to put in it. Streamlining is ALWAYS nice.
"hate THAT job" cracked me up! too funny. i worked on my craft space today, too. that involved stripping the nasty varnish and stain off of some leaves to a table. i really do hate that job.
i ADORE your ladder quilt blocks. i can't wait to see what happens next with those :)
Good luck with your huge undertaking...I'm sure you will find renewed creativity once you are able to get everything finished. I LOVE going down to the quilt cave when it has been recently cleaned and vacummed, so I'm sure a new paint job will really make things snappy!
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
Lol! Hate THAT job! :) Even with just the primer, the room looks so much bigger! Yellow paint sounds lovely. Good luck with the process!
You ARE a crazy mom! I alway am so inspired by you - makes me want to get up and do something constructive.....can't wait to see the finished product!
CUTE kids! I miss those days. :-)
Ambitious job - especially that primer! But it will look awesome in the end. Can't wait to see what you do with those stars I spied on your design wall! : )
i love yellow! i bet your room will be beautiful. we've cut down on storage too. mainly bookshelves. i want less stuff to dust.
Yellow and white sounds perfect! Hope you are almost there with putting everything together... Have a great weekend!
Gosh! make a red wall into a white one is a tough job. It's looking great. You've done a wonderful job.
Too late now but here's a helpful hint for re-painting your quilt room - have your local shop tint the primer with the same color! Its usually is free of charge and the tinted primer acts as a wonderful base coat, especially for an extreme color change.
