I've been working slowly and surely on my oh my stars! quilt. My husband thinks this would make a good king size quilt. I totally agree, but I'm not sure my arms can handle it. :) For now I'm just taking it one row at a time and I'll see where it goes.
I sure do love it so far! The way the white fabric pops just makes me smile.

I am "almost" finished with my king sized hexagon quilt. Almost meaning only a month or two? :) I might have to make a star quilt next. Yours is beautiful!

Don't you love it when hubby's get interested in the hand projects and want huge versions?!? I remember when I finished my Civil War Bride quilt, my husband commented that it wasn't big enough for the bed...like I was going to let him actually sleep under it or something! LOL

You mat get a bit fed up sewing a kingsize.
I made mine quite big and ended up with a double, and I was thankful when I finished!

My mom and my grandma both made star quilts just like this one around 20 years ago and they gave me the extra pieces! (They cut all the pieces using a template.) This has got me thinking about pulling out those old diamond scraps. Thanks so much for your post. I'm inspired.

That is truly lovely. I've done paper piecing before (it's how I got into quilting) but not just hand piecing. However that is about to change as I'm cutting out my first to-be hand pieced project - the dresden quilt from Material Obsession 2. With spring coming, I think it will be the perfect project to drag about the place. Also I notice my love for little pieces is growing!

Your star project is much farther along that I realized. It looks fabulous! I can't imagine this in a King size, but if anyone can do it, YOU can! It will be stunning no matter what size you decide.
I've been making mine since early may and it will be a queen...I'm a little over half way done and I have to be careful as my hands start yo hurt so easy does it...you don't have to finish it this year!

Looks amazing! WOW - that's a LOT of fussy work! I've never designed a quilt or anything before, but I can't help look at this close-up and wonder if the same effect can be achieved in strip quilting fashion where each row of stars is made from 4 strips..row 1: white diamonds & colored triangles, row 2 : white triangles & colored trapezoids, row 3: white triangles & colored trapezoids in opposing direction, row 4 : white diamonds & colored triangles again. It would be a lot of lining up and accurate cutting, but seems like it wouldn't be any more fussy than this method... just wondering...

I'm working on one too. Can you show us the back? I have all sorts of tails and not exactly sure how to trim. It's way too bulky as it is. I've run out of quilt patis so I'm forced to sew my stars together. I'm LOVING it! Thanks for the link to the YouTube video AND especially for the inspiration. I have just started my foray into paper piecing with a hexagon project (it's actually going to be part hexagons, part strips, so we'll see how I can manage that... my own designs are often more ambitious than my abilities!) and I really enjoy it. I think I am going to work on a star design made of triangles like this one next, because yours is turning out really pretty.
