this little quilt has been in progress for about 2 years...i'm so glad it's finally done!
to piece it, i used skinny strings that were too small to hold seam allowances, so i foundation pieced them onto fabric and left the edges raw.
it's a little quilt, only 33" x 44". i LOVE the colors. LOVE them!
and did i mention that it's all scraps?
the backing....oh, boy! this has to be my best backing find ever. it came from joanns. can you believe it? as soon as i saw it i knew it was perfect for this. i love the simple green polka dot on the binding, too.

to quilt it, i stitched in the ditch between the rectangles. i chose this option because of the extra weight of the foundation fabric under the strips. i didn't want to mess around with a lot of heavy quilting. a nice side effect is that the quilting makes a nice simple grid on the back, which you really can't see on the photo, but it's there.
i love this little quilt and so does my daughter. she's amassing quite a pile of little quilts at the end of her bed.

SOO cute! Love it!
Jeez, like I wasn't saving enough scraps before... now I'm gonna end up saving strips that are too small to even sew together. THANKS A HEAP!
just kidding - it's gorgeous. Quite a fun little quilt, and I'm sure the raw edges are only going to add to it as it gets used.
Oh I love the name of this quilt, so appropriate. The backing fabric is perfect! What a great find indeed. Cheers!
Oh my goodness! That is too cool! Love it :D
I love how summery and bright it is!
Oh, AJ, I LOVE, LOVE the backing fabric! I would have wanted to buy the whole bolt if I had seen it. I've been wondering if we would ever see that fruit stripe quilt. It is so unlike you to have one take you so long, but I can see why now -- so labor-intensive. I love it.
That is such a fun quilt! Congrats of completing it! I know it is extra special when it is one that has been hanging around for awhile.
It's fabulous! I love it! :0)
I LOVE this quilt! The colors, the backing... it's beautiful!

What an adorable quilt AND it came from scraps! BONUS! I am sure your daughter will enjoy it for a very long time.
What a very fun quilt! And I love that you used scraps!! Way to go :-)
What a cheerful quilt. It would have been very difficult to stipple, I think. Looks super.
What a cute little quilt. I think the grouping of the colors together makes it great. I can see why your daughter loves it. Goog job!

SOOOO CUTE! I have to do one like this, only bigger. Maybe it will make a dent in my stash!
I wish I had that little pile quilts at the end of MY bed!!!

How cute is that! I love it!
Mmmm. I can almost taste that gum now. And now I can't, since the flavor only lasts about three seconds.
Lovely, happy quilt.

Such a beautiful quilt - I love the bright cheery colors and that backing is perfect!!! Congratulations on a beautiful finish!! You have a very lucky daughter!
How gorgeous! The colors are wonderful. Glad that I'm saving small pieces of fabric leftovers!
Wonderful way to use up those skinny strips! I'm impressed your scraps are so color coordinated. I agree with you on the backing - perfect! And I especially love the name you gave this one.

The colours are just gorgeous. What a work of art!
Amanda Jean,
So glad you are back blogging!
What a great use of scraps! I need you to come over and help me get rid of some of mine!!! For some reason, my scrap basket never seem to diminish.
The colors on this are fabulous! I absolutely love the look of this quilt.
Great quilt, the blocks don't look that small. I like that each block is color specific. Love the back too. Joann's has some good things sometimes. Thanks for sharing.
This is just great; so delightfully bright! Soon you won't be able to see your daughter (when she's in bed), for the quilts piled on her bed!
So bright and cheerful!
This quilt is super cute and I LOVE THE BACKING! It's nice to find fabrics at a little less money that you can use on the back- but it's equally as cute as the front. I also love the idea of using up scraps and your colours are to die for- so cheery and fun. I love coming to your blog to see what new things you have come up with :)
What a nice print for the back. Bold and fun.
another great scrap quilt from the scrap quilt queen! i love seeing all your scrappy ideas.

It's great - happy and fun!

Lovely! Do post a picture of it after you've washed it a few times. I'm curious to see how the texture changes.
i am in love with this! very well done. people would have thought i was crazy if i tried this. it would have taken me 5 years or more lol very nice indeed.
I LOVE these colours! What a fabulous quilt!!
Hugs,

Another great idea turned into a quilt. I just love the thought of little, seemingly useless bits of fabric scrap that turns into a functional quilt. On their own, nothing. Together, a community! Love the little person peeking out the side of your shot!
This Quilt is so cute! I love it!

WOW!
Cute and colourful as always AmandaJean. Gorgeous.
I absolutely love this little quilt and the back is perfect. Wonderful!
i LOVE this quilt!!
the backing fabric is AMAZING!!! i wish we had a joanns in australia!
very fun quilt! i have been finding a lot of great prints at joann's lately. they must be stepping it up to compete with all of the modern designers. good news of us!
This is SO GREAT! I love the colours too.
At least your daughter has fabulous taste!!!
Blessings,
KT
This is so cute. I love that you used "scraps" and made such a beautiful quilt, just goes to show I'm not crazy for saving those skinny and little pieces.
Oooh I love it! Did it take so long for you to get it together because you had to build up the scrappy strips or it just took that long to piece all the tiny bits together? How large would you say each strip was, approximately?
When I clicked on your blog and saw this beauty I said (out loud) oh, I'm so glad Crazy mom is blogging again!!
Super cute quilt!!!!!
Oh, wow. Totally makes me think about that fruit striped gum from my childhood!
I love it. It's so eye-catching.
This is so cute! I love all the colors, and that backing is adorable!
I love it and the backing is fabulous!!!
Oh yes...love it and it looks just like fruit striped gum.

You are brilliant! I love that you use up every scrap of fabric - you've inspired me to save all mine and make something beautiful!
And quilts like this are why I keep saving all my skinny scraps and crumbs! Some day I will be able to make some great original quilts from them.
Oh my..... cute. cute. cute!!! LOVE it!! :-)
oh wow, i love this...and I also can't believe that not only do you save those tiny pieces, but you also use them!
I'm so totally in love with this quilt! I'm going to be saving scraps that are too small to sew together to make one like it now :)
Now I need to take a ride to Joanns since the backing fabric is sold out online. I just love it!! Hopefully I'll get there this weekend. Your quilt is just so colorful. I love it!
Love it! So glad you're back! Hugs!
What's not to love about this quilt?!
I'm wondering if these photos are before or after washing. I would love to see a close up of the blocks after laundering.
What a perfectly cute string style quilt. I bet with the raw edge applique it will wash up and look even more like a well loved vintage quilt. It was a fine way to use your most colorful scraps.
That is, hands down, one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. You inspire me.

I love this quilt...so summery, so happy, and deliciously scrappy!
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
So pretty! What a fun backing! Perfect!!
I love it too - I love what you do with scraps!
I love it!! and it is SO perfectly named!! makes me want to go buy a pack of gum right now :-)
I love it! What a great way to use those scraps!
the photos of the quilt are before washing.

Great top and way to use up those little strings, and you are right, that backing is awesome! I love it!
What a fun quilt! I love it too. I am also intrigued by the way you swapped out that Nikon strap with one of your own. Very clever. I will be studying my own strap soon, to see if I can do something similar. One Q: did you use a seam ripper to take it apart from the leather strap holder? And then sew it back up? Just curious.
Thanks!
love this! You do such amazing things with strings!
I.LOVE.IT!
Absolutely beautiful, it's breath taking! I want it!!! Wish I could make my own! :)
I like this little quilt! Everything about it is so cute!
I'm new to your blog and the quilt is just AMAZING - love love love the colour combo!!!! Glad to know that there is projects that can take that long and that I'm not the only one with a few projects running (not always to be finished immediately) :-) Will visit again. Carina

Love those bright, candy inspired colours and the backing... oh, that backing. Unbelievable. What a score to find.
This is GORGEOUS! Just started following your blog, so I'm too late for the quilt-along this time. Maybe next time though!
