quilt along week 3, and a giveaway winner!

Welcome to week 3 of the quilt along!

This week's step is to cut all the pairs of strips into 2 1/2" wide segments. I showed briefly how to cut them in last week's post. You will need a total of 490 segments. I'll confess that my hand was VERY sore after I was done, but it will be worth it. Happy cutting!

Feel free to add your photos to the quilt along group pool. And if you are inclined to do so, leave me a comment letting me know if you are caught up or not. Just curious, you know.

Thanks for all the comments on my giveaway post. The winner of the Roll Up is MissBossyPants! (Love that blog name.) Please email me your address, MissBossyPants, so I can send you the fabric.

I had a BLAST at the retreat. I'm a little worse for the wear after all the sewing and very little sleep. My younger son told me at supper that I didn't look quite right. LOL!!! My husband told me a couple times that it looks like I'm getting sick. My voice is a little bit hoarse and I feel worn out, but it was TOTALLY worth it!!! :) But, I'll do a more in depth recap of the retreat on another post.

One last thing for today...Happy First Day of Summer. (Quite possibly my fav blog post ever.)

Yes! I've been looking forward to this post all day! I'm caught up, even started cutting already, as I figured that was the next step. :-)

Hmm ... I was kind of hoping for some magical way to skip this step. ;) I'm sure I'll be done by Monday, though!

I'm a bit behind- my fat quarters finally got here Friday! I just finished cutting all my fabric and as soon as I get the baby to bed, I will start sewing the strips... then cutting them!

It was so fun meeting you in person and spending the weekend at such a great retreat! (in spite of the lack of sleep) How funny about the comments your son and hubby made. Hope you're not getting sick! Rest and relaxation after a retreat? Sure, why not!

Congrats to your winner.

Wish I was joining you guys, but time did not allow it right now. I may give it a go later.

I cut all of my segments last week, so I guess I'm not only up-to-date, but ahead. This is my first quilt-a-long, and I'm a little over-anxious!

I'm like Annalee, my first quilt-a-long and I am sooooo excited. Since I'm using charm squares, I cut them in half as I went. Retreats are the best, glad you had a great time! Karen-aka-Hazel Dell Quilts (For some reason I can only only post here as anonymous)

I'm a tad behind. Got all my strips pieced together but then our AC went out and I was not about to handle the iron in 95 degree heat. Now my three-year-old twins have head lice. Talk about being a crazy mom...I may never get caught up, on anything.

I just got all of my strips sewn together - I'm anxious to get my first block together, just to admire... and then onto sore hands!! Thanks again!

Funny! Kids are never afraid to make those comments.

...we're still waiting for Summer. It's a little slow in coming this year.

Your blocks look so perfect! Do you have a secret for cutting and sewing accurately? Try as I might, my blocks, strips, whatever, are ALWAYS off. I don't want to get too hung-up on perfection, but I would love to cut/sew an accurate block now and then. Regardless, I'm loving this project.

Nothing like cutting all those little squares to remind you how much work quilting could be...even before the quilting :P.

I have started cutting my things out, but haven't gotten that far....I was kinda held up by all the math....umm the measuring. I am to the point were I am just going to cut as many 2 1/2 strips and sew them together and cut them up so I have the right amount needed

Can't wait to hear about the retreat, see what you accomplished. I hope you can go to bed early and head off any sickness. A nap would be out of the question, right? =) And I'm not completely caught up. I have more strips to sew together and the center block to make. And now a bunch of cutting too. =/

Oh no, I accidentally got confused (and over-excited) and did this step last week, now I guess I just have to keep busy with some other projects until next week. It's just such a cute quilt, I want to finish it right away!

Aw, week three already. Ok I still have to do week two. Got to get caught up now :)

I remember that scraped-knee post too. Compared to now, those legs all look short and chubby...can't believe how time flies.

I have all my strips cut and sewn to together. I will be cutting them this week. I figure I will take my time and cut a few between doing other things so that I won't get burned out (or a sore wrist).

So glad you had fun. Hopefully you don't get sick. It's big time allergy season where I live.

I'm hoping to stay caught up. Currently working on hand sewing the binding of another quilt. It's my first and boy oh boy is it going slowly! I'm doing a little then taking a break to cut my pieces. Just wish I had more kid free time!

I have picked my fabric and plan to start cutting it tomorrow. i hope to be caught up by next week. Hope so anyways.

Grrrrr. I am not cutting well today. I've messed up 3 squares so far so making myself stop until another day.

Anyone know if we end up with any extras? Just trying to figure out if I need to sew some replacements.

Yea, I'm all caught up!
Will post pics on Flickr tomorrow.
Thanks for doing the quilt-along!

Do take care and rest up - maybe take some E-mergen-C or something like that. I am just getting over a nasty cold and hope you get the rest you need and avoid anything like this one!!

Amanda Jean welcome back to blogland. I am so glad you are back blogging.
I am in the middle of a move...packers packing boxes and moving craziness all around me and what am i doing??? I am quilting. I am putting on binding so that I can hand quilt it down on the drive to our new house. If it wasn't for you binding tutorial available online, my sewing machine wouldn't be on the truck now.
Thank you for all you do with sharing your knowledge of quilting.

I am just about caught up. I just need to finish pressing the strips which I will do tonight and then cut them in to 2 1/2 inch pieces. This is my very first quilt-a-long and I am loving it. Thanks so much for doing it.
