Yesterday was day 70 of the one a day quilt along (round 2). Were any of you able to catch up this time around?
I've got my blocks done, and I laid them out this morning. I'm not feeling the love yet, so once again, I'm hoping that white sashing does wonders like it's done in the past. There is a very ugly bright yellow and green square (on the bottom right) that I'm not sure will make the cut, but the rest are going to stay. It was my intent to have this quilt top together by day 70, but I know I should just be happy that I have all my blocks done on time. Now, for a ton of sashing. Whee!
You will need about 3.5 yards of fabric for the sashing.
The assembly instructions are here.
Anyone still quilting along with me? How's your progress?

I wish I was! I love all the quilts produced with your QA :) Yet one more added to my to-do list!
Mine are done! I have a brand new bolt of Kona White, so I'll start cutting sashing tonight during Big Bang Theory! I think you should leave the lemon/lime block it'll be pretty with the sashing!
I finished mine this weekend and posted it to the Flickr group - I ran out of my main fabric though (I was using scraps) so I had to improvise and do about half plain blocks.
Cheater cheater!
It was fun though. Thanks! :)
I just found your website yesterday & I love it. Thank you so much!!
I've been quilting for a few years now & I am OBSESSED!!
will you be doing another quilt a-long soon?
I started in round 1, but just finished my blocks, so now I'm following along with round 2. :)
I can't wait to see how my blocks look with the white sashing!
I'm still behind, but I'll catch up eventually! I know I have enough sashing and backing fabric stashed away, so at least I'll be ready when I get to that point.
Is this one for yourself?
I was right with you for about 30 days, and then a bunch of life happened! I still plan to get back on it and finish this quilt!!
Thanks for the inspiration!
My blocks are done but I haven't finished sashing yet! I better get cracking.
my blocks i made in a whirl wind of sewing in August, they just need the sashing, which is on my to do list. In the mean time other projects are getting done. Last night we had a real blast of cool air and this quilt is suppose to be for our bed, so i better get it done soon before the snow flies!!
ups.... i'm late to late!!! i hope finish all my blocks this week!!
i'm still in...but behind. I hope to get back to it and finish with maybe blue sashing for a graduating senior this year. yippee!
I went on vacation (without my machine) and never came back to it. :( I have a few done, and a whole lot cut out, but now with school I don't have the time. But I think I might be able to sneak one in there.
I love that green and yellow block. Leave him in! Put him in the middle!
I am a little behind but hope to catch up next week when my house guests are gone.
This was fun.
Okay, I have no right to say this because I haven't participated, but can I make a teensy suggestion? Have you considered sashing in something other than white? Maybe a pale yellow or green? It would be a nice contrast to the previous quilt.
PS I totally agree with you on that yellow and green block, it really stands out!
I've finished mine and have taken a week off before starting the sashing. Making the nine patches is so much more fun...
I've posted mine on the flickr group and I'm just waiting for some free time to baste it for quilting. I have a block that just sticks out and it happens to be right smack in the middle of the quilt. Oh well, it gives it the quilt top some character. :o)
wow, gorgeous! i'm not quilting along but i'm watching... and i have to say, i took one look at the picture and said "that green and yellow block has to go!"
Your blocks all look great. I wish I had the time to play along with you.
I started on round 1, got behind and I am still behind! It's okay though, I have a two week break from school, so maybe I can get it done, along with a couple of other projects...
I have to say I like the yellow/green block...I would move it in a bit! Can't wait to see your finished project
I've got all my blocks done AND the sashing on. Now to get it quilted! Too many seams for this beginning free motion, home machine, to tackle. It is still on the wall and my husband and 9 year old granddaughter love to go look at it and pick their favorite blocks...of the day! I love it too. It has given me so much satisfaction. Thank you for the inspiration. Toni
I'm not officially participating in your quilt along, but I did want to leave a comment. I like your nine-patches, including the ugly yellow/green block. I think that block would make an excellent center block. The reason is, the colors are brighter than others in your collection and the eye naturally goes to it. With it in the center the eye will automatically go to the center and see your whole quilt and not just a corner. It will look nice, regardless of what you decide to do. Have fun!
Sometimes the ugly thing turns out to be the thing you like about the quilt hehe At least that's how it is with me sometimes. I think the sashing will bring it all together... sashing always does wonders :)
Not doing the quilt along, but i agree that the green n yellow block needs to go ... it screams out too much!
I am still with you, although last week I realized I was only halfway done. I had cut out all the rest, though, and then on Friday I got them almost put together. I'll be finishing up later today (or tonight), and then I'll be sashing.
Can we do another one-a-day -- like maybe with pinwheels this time?
I would love to do the next quilt along! Are you planning on doing one?
I'm finished all the blocks and just need to put white sashings on my blocks.
I am making OH Cherry Oh! so all my colours are pretty matchy matchey...
Am home, so next week I put it together...Wahoo!
I haven't participated because I just found your blog a little while ago. I agree with Dena & Mochaxlight about putting the Green & Yellow in the centre. If their not stitched up, no harm in just trying it out. I agreed that using other than white, (ecru or pale yellow) sashing would be nice. It is YOUR art, there are no mistakes-do what YOU like best.
I wouldn't put the green and yellow block in the exact center, but more like 4 in from the edge the long way and 3 in from the edge the shorter way. But I'm crazy like that. Or you could pitch it altogether. I'm just being bossy, y'know.
Great job! I am halfway! I haven't been working on it... too many other projects on the go.
So I did the top from the first 9 patch quilt a long and only managed to put it together last week. Does this mean that I'll be spanning 2 quilt a longs? Top in one, quilting and binding in the second? (of course I'll say that I did this deliberately...)
And the ugly patch? Put it down the bottom on or near a corner. Once it's on a bed no one will notice it.
More like, did I ever start? I am thinking of making something like that...someday.
Well, I guess I know what I'll be working on tonight. Are we supposed to be done at 70 then? I am way to far behind to admit. Your's looks great, even with the green/yellow block. :)
I'm done :) Made 70 blocks (although didn't do 1 a day)
Here is link to post on my blog http://beautifulquilts.blogspot.com/2009/09/design-wall-monday-quilt-along-blocks.html
Nice!!!! I agree with you on the green and yellow block. I am getting the feeling of blues when I look at it without.
Oh no! Don't toss the green and yellow block! I know it's a bit different from the rest but maybe that's why I like it so much :) I think you should make it one of the four corners, Heaven knows it can hold it's own in a corner! But thats just my opinion :) Besides it's not a true scrappy quilt unless you have a few that are not exacty like the rest
I like that green and yellow square!! It looks great. My first one is still in the making. I just have to do the long sashes - so I guess I should just get on with it. Have you seen my exciting new backing?
I guess I am an overachiever because I did all my blocks in about 2 days:) I sew at my dining room table and knew I couldn't get my sewing machine out everyday. I taught my daughter how to sew with this easy pattern and quilt along, we actually entered it in the fair. Thanks for the encouragement! I love the quilt! I also say keep the green and yellow block! That's the fun of using scraps! I'm up for another quilt along as well. Thanks for all the encouragement!
AmandaJean - I am so behind - that I will probably be right on time if you do this one again...
But, I am not giving up and I intend to finish it...I love the way my 9-patches are turning out.
I loved the results I saw for the first quilt along, so started this time. I've finished the blocks, but that's it. My quilt is much brighter than I anticipated, but I think i'm going to love it. I did find myself wanting to buy a few fat eigths and things, to add to my scraps. :) I put in a bunch of fabric from previous quilts and projects--dorky as it sounds, it kind of feels like a keepsake quilt. :)
I love the nine patch scrappy quilt. The sashing will do wonders, you'll see.
Yes, I am. BUT I ran out of fabric! I wanted to do the single square row around the edges and am shy a few squares. Of course I am not using scraps! A new charm pack is on order and then yes, I will have finished a project on time!!!
i didn't play along. should have. cute stuff, that is for sure.
Round 3?
I'm not participating in this quilt a long as I just started blogging last week. Would love to participate in the next one though!!!
I got to 35. I made mine out of pink scraps, with white. Half were in the shape of an "X" and the other half "O". It's just the right size for a baby quilt...."X,O...hugs and kisses".
I am, but I am still on the star quilt. I am a bad girl. I have been busy though. I will catch up. I promise. I really appreciate all you do. Hey I am announcing a give away tomorrow....my first give away!
I had to stop part way and make a smaller version for SIL, but I will catch up. I put squares in between hers and she loved it. Thanks for the inspiration. A-
I went without sashing, sewed it all up in a flash it seemed- and now it's a ufoo (yeah, that's a typo, but it's funny!) I'll post another flikr when I can. I have really enjoyed being a part of this, Amanda Jean!
p.s. I've started a spiderweb, too!
:-} pokey
Gorgeous - it will be even moreso with white sashing!
hugs - Lurline♥
All my blocks are done and waiting to be put together. I did cheat though, I didn't have enough scraps so they are all the same. I have had a lot of fun with this. Now off to find my sashing fabric! Count me in on the next one too.
Leave in the green/yellow block. I think with scrap quilts, you need that "ugly" block. I think I read somewhere that quiltmakers would purposely have a mistake in their quilts b/c only God can make something perfect. I like that theory.
I'm in OK shape. Top's done and the backing is sorted. BUT that doesn't mean I'll finish this side of Christmas. I've still got my ORB quilt all pinned and ready to go sitting in the cupboard! Oh happy days...if only they were endless!
I'm in it! I pooped out at 56 blocks because I really only wanted a throw quilt for the back of my futon. I've got some of the sashing attached but had to put it away for a while and work on things that produce money! I'll throw a picture on my blog of my progress.
Oh thank you for publishing the link to the sashing info -- I was going to have to come and search your blog. I have all my squares ready -- just no sashing time. Hoping to catch a little break this weekend or next! I'm feeling the love on YOUR blocks -- buy now I'm scared to lay mine out LOL!
I'm still stuck on the first 9-Patch KAL...I don't have room to cut the long strips of sashing to go along the outer edges...is it terrible to just cut the smaller strips used between the blocks? I was so excited until I got to this point... Thanks for any advice!
I really wanted to join in this round, but things got crazy busy so I have to say I haven't made a single block... I am definitely planning on making one of these quilts in the near future though :)
you are putting me to shame over here! I'm still not sure when I'm going to get around to making the top from the first round!
I think you'll have to do round three for this girl.
I got my 70 blocks done on time, and even accidentally made an extra one! I didn't actually start sewing until Day 41, but I sewed like crazy and finished them all by September 18 (which I think was Day 60?) I'm not a very fast sewer, so I'm giving all of the speed credit to Stitch Simple for prepping and cutting my fabric so I didn't have to do any of that.
Hopefully I can get the sashing fabric and make time to assemble the quilt ... my goal is to do that in October. This has been a super fun project and I'll definitely participate in the next quilt-along you have, AmandaJean - thanks!
Here's my mid-block-assembly update!
Keep the yellow and green!!! :D
Hola, I miss this quilt along, hope I know when the next one begins, so I can quilt along with all of you
I must say, this quilt looks great, and it will look great after you quilted.
Ale.
