my jolly rancher quilt top is done. (thanks to victoria for the name inspiration-i love it!) i had mentioned before that working with such bright and saturated colors was really pulling me out of my comfort zone. you have to appreciate a quilt that has purple and orange right next to each other and it looks "right". part of me wants to keep going and make it larger, but i'm going to leave it as is. it measures 40" square. (i sure wish i could figure out why i have such a hard time making small quilts!) i really really really love this quilt.
i thought i would post this picture to help those of you who are contemplating making a spiderweb quilt.
4 blocks=one. day's. work.

(but it's TOTALLY worth it.)

i'm in love with both of them. and i actually like purple and orange...i've always wanted to do a quilt in that colorway, 'aubergine and persimmon'...
They both look great! Love the name of the Jolly Rancher. It's so bright and cheerful.
Wow! That's all I can say. I am left speechless!
I love the Jolly Rancher quilt....such bright and cheery colors!
I have a few more spiderweb blocks to make to add to blocks received in a virtual bee. I had hoped to make it queen size but have decided that, if I'm going to finish it now it's going to be lap size. I'm running out of spiderweb blcok steam. Maybe I'll just put it aside for a while and come back to it when I'm refreshed.
love that Jolly rancher quilt! :-)
yeah, I have a sweet tooth....
And the spider web looks well worth the effort!
I love the jolley rancher quilt....so cheerful!
Both are great. I need to give that spider one a try as it is wonderful.
Cute, cute name for sure -- and it looks fabulous. This would make a darling wall hanging for a kids room or just folded in your cupboard -- heck no one would no it's 40" in there right?
I love your spiderweb. What would you say is the challenge here -- matching the piecing or picking the fabrics to use.. both? Or something else? Just curious.
Jolly Rancher is AWESOME! You sure play with color well. I only have 2 more spiderweb blocks to do. unless of course I want to make it bigger, hmmm who do I sound like?!:) Your little girl's leg is cute too!
I love them both! But I really like bright colors.
Love them both! Great colours.
I've often wondered how you can do so many big quilts, when little ones are just as fun! hehe
Jolly Rancher is a most accurate name for that beaut.
I'm glad to hear you say that about the spiderweb squares, I thought it was just me. :)
Oh, both pieces are beautiful - I agree, I'm always scared to put "big colours" together, but I've seen it work for you and others.
And the spiderweb colours I admired the other day look really nice put together! I want to do one of those, too, I need to get away from rectangles a bit!
I have done a zigzag quilt, following your tutorial somewhat - the idea of it anyway, not the measurements. It's here if you want to look at it: http://cuttingedgequilt.blogspot.com/2009/05/pink-zigzag-almost-done.html
I really like how it turned out and probably wouldn't have ever done one using triangles. Thanks!
Cheers,
Chrisitne
Amanda,
I LOVE the Jolly Rancher quilt. So bright and vibrant. Great work. Amy T.
Love both of these tops, I really love your colour choices.
That spiderweb quilt is BEAUTIFUL!
I LOVE the bright colors in your jolly rancher quilt! It's so cheery!
I love your spiderweb quilt and you have inspired me to start one. thanks!
Oooooo Aaaaaaa. LOVE the Jolly Rancher quilt. The colors are so fun and bright. What are you plans for it? I'm dying to know!
SUPER cute!!!
♥ the name jolly rancher.
makes me think back to the early 90's.
and i think i'm too chicken to do a spider web quilt...maybe one day.
lol.
I love both the quilts, but truly am intrigued by the Spiderweb quilt. Hmm..another quilt idea on the queue!
I love them both. Jolly Rancher--GREAT name. I like the spider web bright colors with the white. Great inspiration!
I love the brights! Jolly rancher is RIGHT on. Those spiderweb blocks have me drooling, too. Or maybe it's thinking about a watermelon jolly rancher? LOL :)
what a bright and cheery quilt!! i think it is perfect how it is!! i'm having a hard time thinking about making big quilts!! the thought of quilting one scares me.
love the spider web too!!
i don't know...do you think it would be totally worth it if you make some of your readers some? you could start with me. ;)
amazing as usual amandajean
Hi, I'm a new crazymomquilts fan and wondered if you have a tutorial for the Jolly Rancher quilt? It is GORGEOUS and I adore working with brights! You're such an inspiration! Wish we could quilt together!
Jennie in CA
My goodness... that spiderweb quilt will be gorgeous!! You make it so tempting to try one... I have lots of little strips I could use, but it would probably take me about a decade to finish if those four took you a whole day!
Hey Amandajean...I'm doing a giveaway that I think you might really like....
And I LOVE both these bits you are working on! I am up to speed on my nine patches :-)
Love both of the quilts.
jolly rancher...great name...love the vibrant colors in this....i can so relate on the spider web!
Hey crazy lady, the box arrived today and it looks fabulous. Thank you so much! Don't worry about the other stuff, I'm in absolutely no rush for it. You should hold it hostage until you get your socks :)
There are some blocks I look at and say...wow that's beautiful but I'll never be able to do that. The spider web is one of those. I might try to figure out the jolly rancher thought..they are both beautiful.
I'd frame the spiderweb blocks :)
I love your quilt and the spiderweb block, I actually have seen one of those made out of selvages, pretty cool! A little out of my skill level I think lol
Great quilts, especially love the little toes by the Jolly Rancher...AND you have clean floors!
Love them both! And I've been seeing a lit of spider-web quilts lately...I'm gettting that itch! Great progress!
They both look so beautiful! I really like the colours!
Fun quilt! I love the saturated colors :) Spiderwebs - not sure I have the patience for those right now. But I love seeing yours come together!!
Oh, love them both! Jolly Rancher is the perfect name. Those colors are so bright, they look almost good enough to eat!!
I must try some log cabin blocks sometime soon. They don't look difficult at all, and the results can be so neat. Just haven't gotten around to them, yet!
Love them both! The spiderweb looks intriguing!
Love em both! I've got to make a spiderweb quilt some day.
Spiderweb quilt...Awesome!
Jolly ranch quilt...Gorgeous!
You...Amazing!
Me...covetous!
Oh, wow! I LOVE both of those quilts! Wonderful job.
I am working on a spiderweb as well. I will post pics after while. Oh and the Jolly rancher has got to be my SECOND favorite quilt that you have EVER done!!!! Great work.
It is gorgeous!! And as far as the orange-purple combination, my daughter wears that a lot :) Mostly when she chooses her own outfits though. She can make it work too.
I love the jolly rancher quilt! fab name!
the spiderweb blocks are so great...they looks so nice all together. I love the jolly rancher quilt...the bright colors look great
I love them both, too! A block as simple as a log cabin sure looks different when made with batiks. I'm just getting into the swing of purchasing batiks myself. It's hard. I'm more traditional but my friends use alot of batiks, so I am embracing them now, with the help of a local shop that had a 40%off sale! Even on sale, I spent about $130 on batiks!
The spider web block reminds me of a kaliedascope, or a fractured stain glass window. It's really a neat affect. I can't wait to see more
Definitely worth it! Love the Jolly Ranger quilt!
Cute quilt!! So cheerful!
Everytime I see your spiderweb blocks I fall head over heels in love with them. So lovely!!!
I love, love, love the jolly rancher quilt. I like all the bright colors and who ever gets it will love it too.
I only recently started reading your blog, and am a very new quilter, but I have to gush, I cant hold back any longer!! I really find your posts and photos to be inspiring, and after having some success with baby sized quilts, I am in love with the scrappy quilt-a-long you are doing and hope to attempt my first bed sized quilt with you plans. THANK YOU from a new feed subscriber!
Totally worth it - lover Jolly Rancher and the spiders are awesome.
LOVE THESE!!!
very nice!
What a great name!
I may have to replicate this quilt... I love it!
Suzy :)
Both are absolutely gorgeous!!! I so want to make a spiderweb quilt, but it is soooo time consuming. I love yours!
Oh wow. Love love love Spiderweb quilts. THey speak to me. You are such a good technician. These can go way crazy when done badly and this one is perfect.
Cute quilt, cute name. What's not to luv? I once made a quilt inspired by the colors of candy in a box of Runts. It is very cute quilt, but I did not name it runts.
These are both gorgeous quilts! Love the colors and the name "Jolly Rancher" for the first.
Have you thought of a name for the spiderweb? My first thought was Charlotte (Charlotte's Web).
I'd love to try a spiderweb also...sometime.
Karen
Mmmm. Jolly Ranchers. Great name for a quilt.
Loving the spiderweb so far. It's going to be FAB when finished.
It looks fantastic!
I just have to swoon over that kaleidoscope one ... the spiderweb. Man, that's is just neat!
What a lot of seams in the spiderweb! It looks great, your posts always look colourful.
I love your bright colors in both quilts! I really fell in love with using bright colors when I made our block swap quilt and when I made the batik quilt for my MIL.
The spiderweb can get a little tiring, but it is really worth it when you see the finished quilt. I kind of wish I had made mine bigger, but I got tired of the piecing. LOL
awesome! how do you get everything lined up so perfectly on the spiderweb, very impressive!
i love the bright quilt, and the name! so pretty.
Amanda jean...I love your jolly rancher quilt! Is that a pattern that you have made or is it one that you bought? I hope you have a great mother's day!
Oh my gosh, the spiderweb is amazing, I don't think I have the patience for that!! Maybe something for a multi-year WIP. :-)
Wow! Jolly Rancher came out so beautifully! I love it and the name is perfect. The spider looks like fun, too. I could definitely have some fun with that. Thanks for the inspiration! Check out my Bento Box Christmas quilt on my blog!
The bright colors are so fun and cheery.
That spider web quilt will be stunning when you are finished! So beautiful.
Great. I lover the colors in your log-cabin quilt
always your lovely colours
Your quilts are wonderful, love that spiderweb!
I love purple and orange right next to each other. It's gorgeous. And your spider web is captivating just like it's supposed to be!
I love the spider webs! I'm about to dive in head first with the paper piecing!
oh those colours in the jolly rancher are so yummy, they look gorgeous together!
Well done!
Fun name for the quilt (Jolly Rancher). I started a quilt this morning. A nine patch of sorts.
OK. That's it. No spiderweb for me. Thank you for helping me make the final decision.
Your spiderweb quilt is just extraordinaire!
Good luck for the 2nd bloc!!!
ps/ Your batik quilt is also veRRy nice. I like it! Also with the purple & orange next to each other:D
You are a quilting legend.
Everything you touch seems to turn to gold.
Andi :-)
I agree - totally worth it. You have a great sense of color!
The spiderweb looks awesome.
You certainly got me inspired to get some of my tons of scraps out and start something LOL. Love your nine patch and also the spider web is very interesting. Thanks
I really need to get some time in with my machine sometime soon. I love both of these quilts. I've got some pieces put away for a spiderweb, and can't wait to get it going. Beautiful!!
they ane you are amazing!
happy mothers day, amandajean!
Absolutely love the spiderweb quilt....
The spider web quilt looks terrific.
They both look just amazing...as usual!! Question about the Spiderweb: do you tear the paper off before or after putting the blocks together? Did you use copy paper like Bonnie? I found that my stitches came out at the ends when I tried my hand at it. Thanks!!
Looks good. And the name totally fits!!:) I still only have one spider web block. How very sad!:)
Wow, both quilts look great! I love the bright colours.
I LOVE that Jolly Rancher Amandajean. The colors, the pattern, everything about it!
your jolly rancher quilt is so bright and cheery! And that is a perfect name for it too.
And for me that would probably equal one weeks' work. :) Nice job on both!
OHhhhhh! I love the Jolly Rancher quilt!
40 inches is a small quilt! Well, in my world it is.
Your Spiderweb blocks are beautiful! I have made a couple of Spiderweb quilts and I love making them, but I am not so certain that mine looked at precise as yours. Way to Go!!!
Can I ask where you got the pattern for this one? I really would like to make one, as yours has caught my eye... :)
This spiderweb quilt block is awesome! I"ve never seen anything like it! Well done! Thanks for sharing it. Great posts over the past couple of weeks...I've been out of town and playing "blog catch up" today!
