time to handstitch the binding

Woo-hoo.
This is my absolute favorite part of quilting.
You all can tell me how crazy I am. I can take it.

I don't think I need to repeat things I've said to you over and over before.:-) I'm glad you enjoy this part!!! The best thing about it to me is that I get to sit on the couch and relax!!

You must be an expert hand-sewer by now. When I made my only quilt (doll quilt), my wrists hurt and my eyes hurt after stitching the binding on that sucker. I can't imagine a larger quilt. (Although if I ever finish that quilt I started months ago, I will have to suck it up.)

you have to do what you love....

Hi, I'm not sure if strangers should make comments but here goes; binding is definitely not my favorite; I think basting is my least favorte. Piecing my favorite. Good job on your 2007 quilts I'm trying to look at all of them but got stopped by a computer malfunction, I think.

That's awesome. There must be some deep psychological reason you like the handsewing of bindings- tidies things up and leaves no rough edges? I dunno, I'm a machine-stitched binding kind of girl, but I admire you! And really, that's quite cool.

I don't think you're crazy at all, it's my favorite part too.

I don't mind that part... (in the winter) its the part right before that that I despise.

Since you really like it, shall I send you two LARGE quilt that need that part done?

I love that part too! It means that I am almost done with another quilt. Believe me, I don't get to sew on binding that often (since I don't finish that much)

I love that part, too! A good reason to sit on the couch in front of the tele and the feeling of accomplishment can't be beat!

I like the binding only because it means that I am almost done with that project and I am ready to move on to the next project. You know how the next project is always more interesting than the current one...

I have pieced and sewn mini quilts just so I can hand sew the binding! Sick, I know.

Love the quilt. Enjoy your process!

Hi AmandaJean,
Hand stitching the binding isn't my favourite part, but certainly not my least favourite. It is exciting to see the unfinished edges become finished. Do you put labels on your quilts?

I actually like doing the binding as well. I wouldn't say it's my favorite part, but it's definitely not as awful as some of my quilter friends make it out to be.

I love that binding for that quilt!

You are crazy! (Said in a very nice way of course:)

I think this is part of the reason I have put off making an actual quilt... Is it bad to totally cheat and machine sew the binding on? :)

i don't have it -- now that i figured out a better way to hold it that doesn't make my left thumb go numb!!! -- but i don't love it as much as you do! :)

That you love to do stuff like this is why I love to read your blog. Such a detailed perfectionist you are! Right up my alley.

You really are so talented and creative. Love this quilt. I love the blues and browns and whites. I've realized that my entire house (minus the peach-orange and avocado green kitchen - NOT my doing!) is slowly morphing into a blue/brown/white shelter.

Anyway, the point of this comment is to say that I love hand sewing the binding as well. It's very satisfying, and somehow it just really makes the quilt your own. Not that all of the designing, shopping, measuring, cutting, piecing, (ripping, in my case), basting, and quilting don't make it your own. I just think the binding is the best part.

I'm with you -- I love doing the binding. Curled up in a cozy chair and watching something good. It signals that I've completed something.

I love the handstitching part too. It's the final hooray and then you have a completed quilt.
