melvin

I made another little softie, much like Milly. (Another photo here.) My husband named this one Melvin. Melvin needs some clothes, so I need some advice on sewing doll clothes. Or good links to patterns. Can anyone help me?
Melvin has a crooked neck, but we still love him anyway.

Too cute!! No comments on the doll clothes. I can't make people clothes. Good luck. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

ooh, he is a cutey!! Love the name! I got nothing for you on clothes though...Kelsey always wants me to help her make clothes for her toys. We just make aprons for them instead! :)

He is so cute! Maybe this tutorial would help. It is for a dress, but maybe the shape of the pattern would be a place to start a shirt:

Best of luck!

Fior clothes start with felt..it's very forgiving and add embelishments. I usuallt do some mock ups in paper first. All dolls are different sizes so pattern don't really help.

love Melvin, I usually just make the clothes patterns by taking the body pattern piece and cutting a little larger. I also like Mollychicken's pattern. BTW, I LOVE the patchwork scarf, wash it with some jeans and wear a turtleneck...

Kevin obviously didn't know Melvin the bus driver. (If he had, he probably would have chosen another name.)

Making toys seems to lend itself a bit more towards instant gratification, doesn't it? Much quicker than many of the projects you undertake.

He's very cute. Hmmm, my dolly patterns are all too girly for a Melvin, though. I'll have to do some looking.

I like Melvin too. But yes he needs some clothes! I have made some doll clothes and they have taken almost as much time as regular clothes to make! I'm not that patient so it seemed to take too long. But later someone was mentioning some tips to me on how to make them easier and faster. Like hemming the bottom of the pants before stitching the legs together. Same for sleeves. Something about the order of doing things would be different than sewing regular clothes. There are lots of books in my public library about dolls and doll clothes, so maybe yours would too? Hope this helps, a bit...

How adorable is melvin? I think he's kinda cute naked as well :) Maybe he just needs a simple scarf? Whatever you make will be terrific :)
