a Dresden block

Welcome to finish it up Friday!

My Gruber's retreat friends and I are doing a quilting bee this year. It's been a few years since I've been a part of a bee and I'm excited to be a part of this one. It's funny, one block per month doesn't seem like that much of a commitment, but the months fly by. (A sure sign that I'm getting old. ha!) February seemed to go especially quick!
This block is for Cindy. She requested a bright colored Dresden block with a black and white center. She will be attaching the blocks to a background, so even if it doesn't LOOK like it's finished, it sure is! This was the first full sized Dresden block I've made. It was fun, but appliqueing the center was tricky since there was very little fabric to attach the circle to for basting purposes. One and a half tries later, the center is attached. Yay! So, a small finish, but a finish nonetheless. I'll take it!

Now it's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Cute! I have had my fabrics cut out for a couple weeks now. I'm excited to finally have time to assemble my block for Cindy this weekend. Should be a fun quilt when she puts it all our blocks together. So happy you were up for doing our new Bee!

Your Dresden reminds me of sunflowers and when I look outside, all I see is snow. I want to print this out and make garden stakes with it on top.

Beautiful Dresden! I love how modern a traditional block can look.

Yes, that reminds me that I should mark my 'blade' templates with advice to cut them a bit longer at the skinny end, so that I have plenty to trim away after the center circle is attached.

But that is a gorgeous block !

Very pretty. I don't think I've made a Dresden Plate blocks since the 1970s, but that will change!

So pretty! I've only ever made one dresden block and I had a little trouble with the center circle. I think I might like mine more if I had used a dark center like yours!

Your dresden plate block is just smashing.

It's gorgeous, like a giant wonderfully coloured sunflower!

When I saw this very pretty Dresden on Flickr, I asked, "What is your secret to your perfect circle center?"Now, I'm even more impressed, realizing your sewed it to the blades alone! Do tell: how did you do that??

No active blog here, but today I got to go to a "Sit 'n Sew" where I appliqued on nine flowers by hand to my copycat panel.

Bees are the best way to get you outside your comfort zone, and they even provide support while you do it! Hope you enjoy yours and congrats on a beautiful finish!

Your Dresden block is stunning! And it's not only us quilters that think so because:
Your Dresden photo was selected to be on Flicker's Explore - top (something) list. Means it was chosen out of thousands and thousands of pictures (many amateur photographers would die to get on Explore.)
Congratulations! It truly is a beautiful picture and a truly gorgeous block. I love all those colors together and the black center sets them all off so nicely.

Love the dresden block. I hadn't made one until a bee member (Rene') requested it and now want to make my own. Showed your post to Cindy Live a Colorful Life when I got this because we're rooming together at QuiltCon and had a blast.
