Today I am super pleased to announce that my thread catcher PDF pattern is up for sale! It only took me since LAST January to work up the pattern. I'm speedy! :)
I designed this pattern out of necessity. I needed a cute little bag to catch all my snips and threads while working on my EPP stars. It's much better than what I was using....a folded over zip loc baggie. (For shame!) These thread catchers are definitely a few steps up from the baggie. They are designed to be soft, flexible, portable and collapsible.
Of course I couldn't just stop with a standard thread catcher...I had to play with options.
I added interfacing to this version...
and experimented with ticking, which worked very well....
I also made some with linen and patchwork...a no fail combination!
Oh! I almost forgot the patchwork version! It was made with a mini charm pack...also known as candy. It's hard to see in the photo, but this one is quilted, too!
I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I love them all. The pattern just happens to include instructions for all these options. :)
My friend Pam, who pattern tested for me made these cute ones....
she added ric rac....
she added a cute button....
and she substituted a fussy cut strip of fabric instead of the strip of patchwork. SO many fun ideas!
They finish at about 4"W x 3.25"D x 4.5"H. The pattern is available for purchase here, but seriously, no pressure! :)
Important details:
The pattern is a PDF file only-no paper patterns are available at this time. Orders are usually sent to you within 24 hours, often much sooner. The PDF file will be sent to your pay pal email address. (Please make sure that it is current.) If you have not received the file, be sure to check your spam/bulk mail folder.
Terms of use:
Please use this pattern for personal use only. Feel free to make as many as you wish for yourself or your quilty friends. They also happen to make great little gift baskets. I would suggest using them for chocolate holders for your non-quilty friends. :)
I thought it would be fun to celebrate the pattern release by giving away 5 copies of the pattern. If you would like to have your name thrown into the hat, please leave me a comment. I'd love to hear what you are working on today. I'll pick a winner sometime tomorrow.
Happy Monday to you! And happy tax day (ha!) to those of you in the US!

I love this little thread catcher! But I also see it as a perfect place to put Scrabble tiles for our evening game! I am working on knocking out the pile of laundry that collects faster than the scraps in my sewing room as well as some paperwork. Maybe this evening I can get back to the paper piecing I started yesterday.
I just love the linen and patchwork ones! I'm working on a project for my art group today. Currently my cat has claimed my sewing chair though. I'm trying to warm another chair by doing some blog reading in hopes that she will trade me in a few minutes. LOL!
What a cute basket/bucket catchy thing! I am working on trying to keep the house tidy and making a star quilt for my daughter.
I'm home sick and am cutting pieces for a king sized quilt from Neptune and Salt Water. I just learned how to EPP, so a thread catcher would be so nice to have!!
I think this would be a step up from the tissue box I am currently using for sure and a fun way to use up some of my scraps!! Love it AJ!!
Looks like a very nice basket!
My current work is making t-shirts and tights for my daughter

I would love to have the pattern- I need a thread catcher to stop the loose threads from getting all over my house!
these are so cute- I would love have the pattern- my husband would love me to have it too as he is fed up with all the threads on my carpet :(. I'm just starting on quilting and am gathering fabric to make a throw for the settee x
Oooh, love these; Linen & RicRac are my favorites!
Ooops, forgot: working on yardwork today, hope to be able to sew tomorrow.
These are precious! I always have lots of little threads and snips that need "catching". I am currently working on a kaleidoscope quilt made with plaids on a tan background--still cutting out triangles, although I did make 4 sample blocks for the design wall.
Your explanations for bag uses sold me on their multipurpose nature. I can see the also used for small toys that seem to get lost easily. Thanks for the pattern giveaway and I would be thrilled to win it.
Love your book too. Dianne
ohmy...these are adorable! I am currently making a cover for my sister's printer. Love making small things between quilts! Thank you for the opportunity.
I am trying to clean and organize my sewing area. I love the thread catchers. They would really make cute organizers for my new area.
These are so cute. I've been doing some hand quilting on a mini-quilt today, and also spending far too long on the internet!
Oh! So cute! I've been meaning to make one!
So cute! I'm finishing up a tumbler quilt top today in A Walk in the Woods fabric for my daughter who loves foxes.
So cute! I can definitely see how they would be addictive. We'd have to generate lots of threads to catch so we could use LOTS of cute bags. :-)
Today I'm working on a baby quilt for a friend's grand daughter. Nothing like working with baby girl colors. So fresh and sping like.
These are too cute! I'm finishing up binding a quilt today.
oh this is what i need for sure. All my thread clipping end up on the floor because my 2 year old grabs the pile of thread next to my machine.I am working on a quilt top for my niece.
I'm working on packing for our move mostly, but hopefully I'll pick up my Bejeweled quilt and get back to quilting again!
I'm finishing the bindings on two of my quilts. There's a large pile of thread clippings on the arm rest of my chair so I definitely need one of these.
Those are adorable!! I'm currently working on the backing for a king-sized quilt. Off to be quilted this next weekend!
Actually today I'm trying to get back into my sewing room after spending last week doing taxes!
I love these!! Unfortunately, right now I'm not working on anything quilty, due to having just moved to AZ from Italy and having 2 little ones to chase around while trying to put together a house... But I have 3-4 people I'd like to make baby quilts or table runners for! Thanks for doing a giveaway!
I'm working on laundry! A quilt did get washed. :)
We've got family coming in town today so it's a get the house ready day.
Oh these are adorable. Today... I'm working. But when I get home I'll finish stitching the binding of a little mini I made this weekend. A cute little freebie from Pam Buda (HeartspunQuilts)called Sweetest Things. :-)

Wouldn't it be nice to send a pattern to Sweden!
What a cute little bucket :) Tonight I'm planning on getting caught up on my bee blocks!
I think it's adorable and a cute gift for my guild friends.
Those are so adorable. You really want to know what I'm working on? Jewels in the Curio from Moda Bake Shop is up on my design wall, a Saturday Sampler block from my LQS, April Schnibbles Hat Trick, and hour glass blocks from charm squares just for fun. Thanks for the chance to win.
I would love this pattern for gifts! I just finished up my 3rd ever quilt and am doing some humdrum mending while I decide on my next project!
Your thread catchers are all cute!! Congratulations!
I will make a little pouch for my earbuds today. With fabric I got for my birthday :-)
Those are SO much prettier than my pile of thread snippets next to my sewing machine:)
I have loved these since you made them for a retreat! I would love the pattern. I am helping my Mom make her first quilt. She is hand stitching circles on to fabric at the skatepark while she watches her grandson skateboard! I am helping cut circles out of her favorite fabrics.
oh this is what my doughter need for sure, She is going to be a mum this summer and has asked me to do something to lay little socks and things to the baby in. For the moment it is mostly things to my new grandchild I make. Have a nice summer from Lena in Örebro, Sweden.

So cute! I'd love to win a pattern!
Congratulations on releasing your pattern! They are super cute :)
Stick my name in the hat please! x
Lovely - I think my husband would prefer to see one of these sitting around instead of a pile of thread and fabric snippets! Right now I'm quilting a large (for me) quilt I made for a friend. The quilting that I think I would most like to do on this quilt feels beyond my skills, so I'm having a moment of insecurity while I figure it all out!
What a great little project! My husband would be so happy if I made one of these - we have a little thread problem here. I just finished the backing for my Pezzy Hourglass quilt. Think I will save the basting until tomorrow, but I will give it a good press this afternoon. Thanks for the chance to win!
Such cute little bags. The only thing I've been working on lately is growing babies (2 if them). So looking forward to getting back to my machine and fabric. Thanks for the chance.
I really need a thread catcher!!! I'm struggling to work on a triangle baby quilt right. It's rough because I don't like the colors that were requested, but slowly it will get finished!
Throw my name in the hat, I'd love this pattern. Super cute.
They are all too cute!
Cute little catchers. I am working on making some snazzy cushions/pillows for my lounge, so could use a thread catcher.
Today unfortunately I am working on my laundry! But I'd rather be working a my new bed quilt:)
What a cute pattern! I'm an accountant, one guess on what I'm working on today....April 15th! Letters to Uncle Sam :)
I was just looking for this pattern this weekend! Love it!
I love the CUTE thread catchers! I am working on "warm wishes" pattern for a baby quilt, such a quick fun little quilt!
Those are all so cute! I am working on quilted throw pillows.
so fun! Today I'm working on refolding and organizing my fabric.
Ooh ooh, me! Me! I am working on some straight line quilting a quilt made of noteworthy fabrics. This quilt is a quilt for meeeeeee!! :)
I'm working on planning two joy school days for my four year old and her friends and then hopfully i'll start the Sprouts Runner found at a bright corner blog.
I'm working on lining a basket for this very reason: to "catch" all of my threads and snips of fabric! How funny is that?! I've used this basket for a long time, but I'm just now getting around to lining it. Hmmm... perhaps I should wait until tomorrow to actually start sewing it together? You never know... ;)
I'm using a tin can as thread catcher. I didn't get around making something that cute yet, i love the fact that they are collapsible too! So clever. Pick me pick me! Right now i'm working on my first quilt ever and the quilting takes forever. It is a sampler so each block is different. It is for my daughter. Hopefully will be done before she turns 4!
Beautiful! I think the linen and patchwork version is super cute :)! Thanks for the chance to win the pattern.
Love them all! I'm working on the binding for an I Spy quilt for my sisters first grandchild.
Love these!!!! I'm working on a few quilts right now and would love a copy so I could make a catcher for all those loose threads :)
I saw the one you did for Noodlehead and loved it. That's my favorite! Thanks for chance to win!
I think this would make such a great teacher gift. There's always lots of containers needed on a desk for stickers, paperclips, and so many other odds and ends. Present it filled with candy and it's sure to get a smile.
I have been searching for a mini basket for ages. And have been stalking your blog waiting to see if you were going to share your pattern. Now I just need to update my paypal or hopefully be "pulled" out of the hat.
Your baskets all look beautiful.
Such a pretty way to keep things organized. What a fun design with so many options! LOVE.
Love this thread catcher! I am not sewing today ~ finishing up taxes, painting, and cleaning out the pantry. Thanks for the chance!
I have been on a bags and basket quest so I would love to add your pattern to my collection.
We a took a trip to downtown and had lunch at an Indian restaurant (two of my hubby's favorite things to do).
Now it's quiet time, and I'm editing a dissertation proposal.
Staycation = fun in mornings + work in afternoons
(No need to include me in the drawing, BTW.)
Happy Monday.
Cute, cute cute. Today I will be tearing paper off the back of paper pieced blocks.
They are all so cute.
Those are so cute! I am hoping to start a new project this week, baby blankets.
Thanks,
Melissa
Those are so cute! Thanks for the chance to win!! monica21stl at live dot com
Such cute thread catchers! Today I'll be trimming down blocks that stretched due to bias edges. Lots of blocks - lots of trimming. Come to think of it, a thread catcher would come in handy right about now! Thanks for the chance!
These are gorgeous!
When EPP I sit at a chair with a cup holder, as you can imagine the cup holder quickly fills with threads, much to the annoyance of my husband when he wants to sit there and actually put a drink in it!!!
Those are so cute! I'm working on seam ripping blocks from a rag quilt b/c the accuquilt shreds snuggle. I'm also cutting some two and a half inch aqua squares for " up up and away" from your book. :-) Just got back from taking my daughter to physical therapy and we'll have to go get lab work done later. Sewing is so much more fun!
Pick me!! :-)
I'm working on 2 quilts that are wearing me out right now, so yesterday I cut out an Alabama Chanin shirt and I'm happily stitching on it.
A little thread catcher would be very handy to keep my hand-sewing supplies in, ya know ;-)
Thanks for the chance to win. And for all that you share here!
Throw my name in the hat! Super cute thread catcher. I currently use empty tissue boxes. This would be a step up for sure! LOL
Love the linen/patchwork combo!! I was planning to try to figure out how to make one of these someday, but having your pattern would make life MUCH easier!!
PS Oh my goodness I must have that blue fabric that's lining the patchwork insert version. It's perfect for a dandelion fabric quilt I'm making building off the oop "dandelion girl" fabric from Fig Tree. Who is the manufacturer???? Thanks Amanda!
So cute! I am working on taxes today =) but I also have a sweater on the needles and a simple throw-sized quilt at the block-trimming stage.
So cute and I'm lucky enough to own one!!! I could make some for other people.
So cute! Love the strawberries and dot one.
these are great! thanks for the chance to win a pattern!! I would love to try making one of these.
Ah, I desperately need one of these. If I don't put my thread in something, my cat eats it... I'm working on some coasters!
I would love my name thrown in the hat, or even the thread catcher for that matter! I am heading off to work, but hope to come home and continue to work on the final stages of my circle game quilt...all hand sewn...so many threads!
Pick me! Pick me! Thanks for the chance.
I'm working on cutting up my scraps into 2 1/2" squares, 4 1/2" squares or 2 1/2" strips. I'm hoping once I get this done I will be able to keep up with the mess!
I would love to win the pattern. I need a birthday present for a friend and this would be perfect. Thanks for the chance to win.
These are just darling! I usually just tape a paper lunch bag to my with surface. I kelp thinking I need to make myself a small bag!
My projects are many but right now I'm adding some hand embroidery to embellish my son's first quilt.
I'm headed to retreat in 2 weeks and have 8 little gifts to make...these would be perfect! thanks for the give away!
I love these - especially the very first one in your post. Today I am working on a special wall hanging - my 26 before 26 quilt.
Oh, I would so love to have a pattern. I was looking at these and lusting, certainly a good thing to fill with chocolate or easter eggs!! as I am a no reply blogger - my email is karen.schulz@paradise.net.nz. Cheers Karen
I've been wanting to try to make a bag. I would love to win a copy of your pattern!
My vacuum needs this dearly! Today I'm finalizing my scrap sort based on your most recent fabric folding post and your book! My brain feels lighter already. And bonus I found a little dress I whipped up for my daughter last year and it was too small, so it's going to a birthday girl tonight. I'll buy a pattern from you since I don't have to buy a gift!
Been working on scrappy chevrons & planning new adventures. These would look so cute for scraps as well (I'm currently using icecream buckets!)!
Hope I win! Love the linen ones :)
Oh my! They are all so cute. This might keep me from having threads all over everything, including myself!
These are so cute! I'm working on my Hat Trick Schnibble today.
Love it! Would love these as a gift for the ladies in our homeschool co-op. Wondering how long each one took to make?
Today, I'm bouncing between hand-quilting and piecing star blocks for my Tennessee Waltz quilt. With all the hand quilting I do, I would love a thread catcher... Hopefully, it would save me some vacuuming!! They're adorable btw!
estyka (at) sbcglobal (dot) net
This is a fab idea! Experimenting with some FMQ at the moment.
These are adorable -- definitely better than my current method of just leaving all the thread scraps on my sewing table and every so often shoving them onto the floor to vacuum up at the end of the day.
Nice. baskets!
No sewing today - jumping into bed after 13,5 h work at work..
Some knitting (a shawl) in yellow was going on, sunday in my sofa.

I am down at Jervjis Bay with my two boys and trying to pick up a BIG quilt whenever I can to do some stitches. Every stitch is one closer to completion. Thanks for the giveaway.

I think my vacuum cleaner would be so grateful for this thread catcher since all my threads usually end up wrapped around the vacuum brush :)Working on a string quilt for the guest room.
The little baskets are lovely and useful! I'd love to sew a few and can imagine a lot of different places where to put them...
I'm currently gathering and chosing fabrics for a pillow for my bed. But this evening my 2and a half year son asked to sew, só we made a sleeping bag for a little knitted friend of his :)
Love these baskets and I know many people who would love them as gifts! No sewing today, later this week I will finish up 2 baby quilts for friends before starting another baby quilt.

I've never used a PDF pattern so I'm interested to try. AND a thread catcher seems to be better than my method of just trying to corral them into a big pile on the table!
These are adorable!! I am working on a birthday gift for my mother.
So cute! I need one of these, I saw a tip somewhere to put a piece of masking tape by your machine to catch threads...I had it filled in one sitting. This is more my speed. :) Right now, I'm quilting on my Man Quilt, which has already taken forever and a day....
Very cute pattern...hope you draw my name!!
Esther

Cute, I need another quick project!
Very cute! We are having a swap at guild in June and I have been trying to think of a handmade gift that is not a mug rug, pot holder or pincushion, as we have already swapped those things. This might be just the ticket! Thanks for the opportunity!
I am trying to finish the quilting of my granny squares quilt but I am also looking after an extra child today for a friend - just call me super woman!
These are so cute! Thanks for the opportunity to win the pattern.
Super cute. Something else to add to the wish list!
I'd love to have the pattern! It would be awesome for mommy-friend-gifts to hold useful things like pacifiers or first aid supplies or hair clips or barbie shoes. The list could go on and on. Just had a big quilt finish so its time to mend my kids jeans and attack a few other small things that waited in the wings while I quilted.

I love the thread catcher you made for us on the retreat you hosted. But, I'd love the pattern too since I feel like I could use 5 of them at a time while I'm sewing on a quilt. They get full so fast! :) I use it every time I sew, even if I only have 5 minutes.
I'd love a pattern! My husband just got back from the states and went to JoAnn BY HIMSELF and brought me back a few fat quarters, one of them might be destined for a thread catcher (my craft room floor is sick of them!)
I am currently working on a Christmas quilt.
~Sharon
I spent the day subbing in a 4th grade class and then fixed dinner for a friends' family who just had a baby. So right now the only thing I am working on is staying awake until bedtime!
The pattern is adorable ! Thanks for the great giveaway!
I'm being a good girl and finishing up sewing some binding on a little baby quilt before I move on to something new. It takes a lot of control not to play with some new fabric I bought.
Love this! what a gret little gift idea for your quilty friends!
I have a baby quilt under the needle. I am quilting it. I stopped for the night. I hope to get it all finished tomorrow while the kids are in school.
love the pattern!!
oh yes please! This is such a great idea!
Super cute thread catchers.
I'm busy hand stitching the binding to a 80 x 80 bed quilt that I finished quilting this afternoon. next job is to sew in those horrid thread ends. x
So that is seriously the cutest thread catcher EVER. I need at least two of these in my sewing room. Today I will be working on a pieced border for a quilt top that I felt was just not quite "finished" yet. Got some inspiration from all the Marcelle Medallions that have showed up in many blogs. I'm trying to decide if it should be scrappy [random] or scrappy [planned] in color families. :D
I'll be working this week on my block of the month from our local quilt shop's Saturday Sampler. First, I have to get the Costco table out and set up in the living room and bring everything downstairs...a chore! So I took today off from getting started.
Very sweet little container! I'd love to win the pattern and thank you for offering us this chance.
I'm currently working on a quilt for my new grand daughter, plus I'm starting a start quilt for my MQG challenge.
I am very inspired by your samples of the thread catchers, such fun ideas ;-)
Michelle
Love these little cups of goodness and would enjoy making them. A pattern would be helpful though, wouldn't it ?~!
Adorable! Love these little guys. Today, I am working on my husband's website, which I have been doing for three days straight. Tomorrow, I plan to finally get out of my pajamas and comb my hair. Yay!

I would love to win this cute pattern. Today I am practicing FMQ on a small wall quilt. Thanks for the chance to win.
I'm working on potholders today.
Putting my bits of thread would be so much better than wearing them, as I do now. My daughter would say these are totes adorbs! She is right, they are totally adorable. :)
These look like so much fun. They would be great for storing things besides threads and snips.
Oh I just love those bags! And my granddaughters would love them for their hair "stuff" too. So if I do not win...have to buy! Very cute....not sewing.....moving! New house to build and so sewing is on the back burner!
So cute!

I've loved your thread catcher since you first posted about it! Today, I've been working on ideas in my head for a quilt I need to make. Had to work all day, then the gym, and then had to watch The Voice, so didn't even get upstairs....BUT the night isn't over yet! Would be so happy to win your pattern!!!
Can think of many ways to use these fun little fabric baskets. Would make a nice gift basket for sure!
I would love to win a copy of this adorable pattern! Right now I am working on a flannel baby quilt. It is kicking my butt, but I am going to finish it if it kills me (which I am really worried about....)
