1. Dotty Dresden. As seen on the cover of Material Obsession. There is so much to love about this quilt!
2. Double Wedding Ring. It's a classic and I'd love to try my hand at it, but it scares me to no end! I think that's a sure sign that I should just jump right in and start it.
3. Tiny 9 patch. As seen in the Feb. 2008 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. I'd love to make it huge! Like full or queen size. In the quilt shown, each of the little 9 patches finish at 2.25"!
4. Another spider web. I absolutely loved the process of making my first one. I dream of having a pair of single beds in room somewhere in my house with matching spider web quilts on them. I guess I'm half way there...as far as the quilts go, at least. :)
5. English Paper Pieced Stars. I've got a good start, just need to see it to completion.
I guess I have a bucket list now. And a substantial one at that! :)

Amanda Jean, you have a wonderful list. I actually started a Double Wedding Ring quilt a few years ago using templates by Sharlene Jorgenson. It is a do-able quilt pattern. One of these days I will finish this blue and white beauty. Maybe in 2012 :-)

ReplyDeleteThe double wedding ring is on my list too. I think I need to buy the acrylic templates for that one! And something with applique. Applique scares me. My friend Carolyn keeps telling me that it's not that bad... but for some reason I just can't bring myself to start a big applique project.
ReplyDeleteA Dresden plate quilt, spiderweb quilt, flock of geese paper piecing quilt (the ones that go in a circle) and to finish my yoyo quilt. Luckily I have a long time to accomplish that which resides on my bucket list! Great post!

ReplyDelete1)an improvisational, minimalist quilt, (do you know how hard that "minimalist" thing is for some of us?)
2)a two color (red/white? blue/white? green/blue?) queen-size Drunkards Path or Magic Circles quilt and
3)a lone star string quilt. How's that for scary??? Much scarier for me than a wedding ring!
I have two bucket list quilts that I can think of off the top of my head: A paper pieced flying geese quilt where the geese are flying in curves and a very modern looking quilt as you go quilt using solids.

-First I would like to finish all the quilts in progress I have laying around my house!
-I would like to make a quilt with each collection by my favorite fabric designer. (That means about 6 more quilts!)
Since I've become a blog-reading-addict my bucket list has become longer and longer. All of the comments above and then some, except the ring quilt. I've made a small version of that one and didn't enjoy it! I have a book (with me always) and just write down the ideas that I see for quilts-I-will-make-one-day!

I started my Dresden plate quilt this morning...it's number 1 on my list. I also want to the an Amish braid and a stacked coin as well as one that looks like argyle.

ReplyDeleteI'm working on my Dresden over on the Old Red Barn Co Flickr group. It's slow actually, but going to be lovely. I couldn't get the actual fabric (red and white spots) in New Zealand, but my version will be fine :) On my bucket list is a Lone Star quilt, I think I want to master that one day, and a flying geese quilt a la Blooming Workshop.

I started a dotty dresden, so I should probably finish it. I, too, have plans to do a double wedding ring quilt. Then I have a pickle dish I want to do. I found a paper piecing template online. I want to do a Baby Jane. I have saved a billion tiny triangles left over from binding and other things. I'd like to do a tiny HST quilt with those. I also want to do the piece 'o cake polka dot circles quilt. I've been saving polka dots for a LONG time. Well, that's the short list, but of course, knowing me, there's definitely a long list too. :)

I'm afraid my list would be too long :) I used to be afraid to make a Wedding Ring quilt also, then I did it a couple of years ago. It took me f.o.r.e.v.e.r., and I can honestly say I don't think I will make another one. However, it turned out great. You should just do it!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. I'm not sure I have one, but I have to say you can totally make the double wedding ring. I made one about 14 years ago when I was still quite new to quilting and I don't remember it being difficult, just time consuming and hopefully I'd be better and faster now. Go for it!

Funny you should ask. I have the same book and my red and white dotted material ready to go. For about 6 months now. It will happen some day. I have a fat eight of Lil apples waiting patiently to happen, and I really want to make a red and white school house quilt. I have a lot more too but you have more to do than read this. ReplyDeleteDouble Wedding Ring was on my quilting bucket list, but I finally broke down and pieced one this summer. Now my bucket list is just to finish the dozen quilts that are in various states.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting married this weekend (eep!), and my fantasy for last summer was to make a double ring quilt in time for the wedding, so we could take neat wedding photos in front of it. Oh well, I will make it for an anniversary (maybe the 5 year, hah hah).
ReplyDeleteI would also like to finally finish sewing the binding to a quilt that I'm already using, and to finish a baby quilt before my sister-in-law gives birth in 2 months. I think those are do-able after the holidays!
I also have a great idea for a quilt with a white background, with circles of different sizes appliqued on top, in a color gradient. I am pretty sure I ripped it off of someone's quilt blog, but I can't remember which. The idea is sketched on a post-it, stuck to my computer, and I always stare at it longingly when I am supposed to be doing work. It will be so much fun to pick all the colors! And not too time-consuming to piece, I think.

3. Curlique Quilt, small drunkard path pieces - i have all the pieces cut from a beautiful French General fabric all stacked in order and ready to go. Big job.

But it scares me that a seasoned quilter fears it!! (I am a newbie) But maybe being blisfully unaware will work to my advantage! LOL

Definitely a double wedding ring too. As for others... the only thing that comes to mind is a completely hand pieced and quilted quilt.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great list! I have the double wedding ring on mine and just ordered the die for my GO cutter thinking that would get me started. I was thinking of tiny nine patches in rainbow colors as well. After that I SO want to try a tiny paper pieced log cabin quilt and a basket block perhaps.....I guess Dear Jane should be on the list as well though nearly insane might be too scary. Right now it is all about midget blocks. Wow, I guess that is quite a list. Good think I've got a bit of time before i think about kicking the bucket!

Bucket list, hmm. 1, A king size quilt for my lovely restored cast iron Victorian bed, the best piece of furniture I ever bought. Can't decide the design. 2, re-cover an antique family quilt made in the 30's for my great grandmother which is badly frayed and worn. It is a Durham Quilt, so called for the part of the North East Of the UK where it originates from, traditionally whole cloth quilts hand quilted in beautiful designs (sounds out of my skill level doesn't it?) 3, a knitted jumper for my husband. He is extra large and I've never knitted anything larger than a toddler's sweater. 4 new curtains in a Sanderson fabric handed down, again from my grandmother. I remember it hanging in her house when I was a child.

Actually, your list mirrors a chunk of mine! :D I'm saving up polka dot prints for my dotty. I have 90ish string pieced DWR bands-I just need to put it all together...
ReplyDeleteI still want to make a broken star quilt. I'm handpiecing a 6 point star quilt, so it'll probably end up as another hand piece job. Hopefully the stars get completed in a shorter time than my GFG in 30's prints!
I definitely want to make the 9 patch you listed-I have that magazine & the pattern is flagged :) I'd also like to make a postage stamp quilt. I like stuff with small blocks, but my attention span is horrible!
If you tackle the double wedding ring will you pretty please blog step by step about it? I would love to try one, but like you am scared to death of it! :)
ReplyDeleteMy bucket list includes a dresden/grandmother fan quilt made from fabric saved from my actual grandmothers old aprons. The very "heriloom" quality of that project scares me enouth that i havent' started!
