9 patches

Some friends of mine are getting married in August, and I'm making them a quilt. Rather than try to guess what they would want, I asked for their (her) preferences. She said "think fall". I LOVE fall, but fall colors aren't my normal go to colors for quilting. I spent a few days (weeks?) mulling over a pattern. I decided to make yet another 9 patch quilt. I'm using Kona jelly rolls in dusky and dark. It's been so fun mixing and matching the colors. So far, I'm loving it! I have 7 9 patches left to make, then I get to assemble the top. I am enjoying watching this one take shape!

If you haven't entered yet, the giveaway for the GO! Baby is still open. :)

  2. I think that this is really nice and that they will enjoy! I totally get the think fall idea--Fall happens to be my favorite season to live in and to decorate for because I just love the oranges and reds, etc. :o)

  3. Ooooh. Lovely. I challenge you to do it without white sashing...

  4. That does seem like a lot of fun...mixing and matching those solids. It could be fun to have a couple of fun leaf prints in just a wee few centers on several of the squares....just a few for a surprise!:)

  6. Not my normal colors either, but it is looking beautiful. I'm with Cheryl -- I wouldn't sash it in white either. Maybe go with a dark brown or a khaki or something that keeps with the somber color palette.

  24. Nice colors. Imagine sashing in an ivory, add a nice wide ivory border, and add some appliqued falling leaves in these colors in 2 opposing corners... Very easy, but would be so effective.

  36. wonderful! what size is each of the squares in each nine patch (finished)?

  37. Do you have it sitting on a design wall? It looks so neat and precisly placed - just wondering what you use. And your photo is square on - not angled like what you get when you photograph stuff on the floor... BTW - repeating the above - lovely colours and like your placements.

  38. 1) Thankful for celebrating 5 years with my husband

    2) thankful for learning how to use coupons! LOL

    3) thankful for teaching myself to sew and to have been lucky enough to "stumble" upon blogs such as yours that give clear concise instructions that make the quilting/sewing process so easy and addicting!
