I made this quilt top, and it is soooooooo not my favorite. So much so that I even thought about not blogging about it. There is nothing wrong with it, but it's just not my style. However, I'm happy that the top is finally finished. I'm happier still that
Margaret's Hope Chest accepts donations of quilt tops! (Isn't that fantastic???) It did give me a chance to work on my curved piecing (smaller curves are not nearly as fun as
bigger ones), and it was a good exercise in perseverance. (I thought about throwing everything away at one point, but I just couldn't.) My daughter loved it, so I'm hoping that some other little girl out there will, too.
Thank you SO MUCH for all your sweet and kind comments about rescuing fabric. You all made me feel so much better!
I am awful glad you kept at it with this little quilt, even though it wasnt calling your name. Its an adorable quilt top and I am postive there is a little girl out there who will absolutely love it. I think it turned out beautifully!!!
ReplyDeleteI have made a few "not favorites" in recent years. And I too am grateful that there are organizations that will take these lonely quilts and share them with others in need. I think I need to do it more often.

Some little girl will really LOVE this. Maybe that's why you made it (without knowing at the time). At least its done and will be finished by someone else.

ReplyDeleteI believe it was the outside border. It overwhelms the rest of the quilt. I like it, but it isn't quite balanced. Even still, I have to agree that someone will still be overjoyed to receive it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, (if you want my opinion....which of course you may not LOL) if you changed the outer border to something stronger and bolder....like the green or blue from the blocks...this would be stunning!! Just my thoughts : )

I think the picture does it some justice. Not being able to see the funny prints, which are the reason you're not lovin' it, I think it looks great! And the funny prints are why Abby likes it! 'lol' I'm not really laughing out loud, so i should say 'loti' or laughing on the inside! Drew was home when we got home, so very sorry not to call you back, but I'll do so tomorrow! Hate that guy!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is adorable even if it's not your style. I'm the same way, these colors are not my preference, maybe it's my dark side, but I like much darker colors. It's still beautiful and there will be someone that really does like it!

ReplyDeletei've been working on turning a big quilt top that i don't like into 4 baby quilts finished for donating to charity. this has been sucking up all of my sewing time lately, but it will be so freeing to get it off of my project shelf. thank you for the resource to send less loved quilt tops, to. i may use that next time :)

I have the same pattern of cut small pieces that I made 1 of and put away. I have since learned a different way to sewmthe pieces together that may help me a bit. You have inspired me to someday make that quilt after all.yours looks great by the way, great job!

ReplyDeleteI like the fabrics in that quilt. The butterflies are cute and I am sure that some little girl will love them. I think it is the lights blending in with the white making some of the circles look like pac-man that turn me off on it. But then again, if I wouldn't have seen so many of your beautiful quilts to compare it to, I would probably love it. I just think that it is not the right quilt for the fabric chosen.
I am glad that you chose to finish it and donate it. That is what I do with my quilts that I don't like much. It is nice to know that I am not the only one that makes quilts that I end up not loving in the end. Thanks again for sharing with us!!!
It reminds me a bit of my bull's eye quilt. I am sure Margaret's Hope Chest would be able to put it to good use.

ReplyDeleteI think it is quite pretty. I think we all go through the I don't see why I started "this" project. I have started knitting, sewing and quilting projects, put them away for a long time because I didn't like them, but when I came back to some of them at a later date I actually enjoyed the unwanted project. Some child will love to cuddle with your quilt. Cynthia

ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle, because as I scrolled down to this, my reaction was that the inside section was just my style, or rather I should say colors. I like the contrast of the plain white with the patterns rather than all patterned shapes.
