scrap challenge, round 3

This mini quilt came all the way from England. Anne, who was my round 2 scrap challenge contestant, offered to play with my scraps in return. This is what she made for me. I LOVE it! It's currently hanging on my craft room wall and I smile every time I see it. Thank you, Anne!

That reminds me...

It's time to open up the scrap challenge for round 3!

Here's how the scrap challenge works. One selected reader will send me a small bag of scraps. I will use the scraps, plus additional fabrics of my choice, to make a mini quilt. The mini quilt will be sent back to the scrap sender. I absolutely love this challenge because it gives me a chance to play with fabrics that I may not choose on my own. If you would like to be entered in the draw, leave me a comment on this post. If you have any suggestions of what you would like to see, you can feel free to add them in the comment. I will chose the winner randomly this time.

You can read about how the scrap challenge series first started here.

The results of the first round are here.
And the results of the second round are here.

What a great idea. I would love to see how your would interpret some of my favorite fabrics. I love seeing the different things that people do with the same fabrics.

I would be happy to send you some scraps. I only have a few tops under my belt but I certainly have scraps galore.
I have been reading about traditional quilters and how they used little pieces of fabric from clothing and other things and would love to see that come to life. I just got the go ahead myself to use a crib sheet that was my husband's as a baby to make a quilt with.

Oh my gosh! That is wonderful! I'm such a copycat, I guess, because now I really want to make this!

CRN said...

I would love to send you scraps. Also would love to take this challenge on for my self, but have no friends that quilt. Perhaps round 4 could be a large swap? Not sure how to take that on, nor do I have the readers to organize one... but I would love to participate in one!

I'd love to send you some scraps! I am absolutely neurotic about saving the fabric, and with all the projects I have lined up I don't think I'll ever get to use them myself. I wouldn't mind a chance at the scrap quilt either! ;)

I don't want to send scraps...at least not now. But this is such a great idea...and I love the minis shown both here and in the other two links.

It would be hard to pick scraps for you to work with to make a cohesive quilt. I have scraps, but they are very varied.

I certainly have plenty of fabric scraps. I just keep saving and saving thinking about what those scraps might become some day. How many scraps to send, what size of the scraps?

Dara said...

I would cherish a quilt made by you. To go along with your theme this year of using your scraps, I have started- last night I made my first independent rag quilt with fabric I have had cut out for 7 years. I don't even know what I am going to do with this quilt, but now this is an adorable quilt rather than a bunch of 4 inch squares taking up space without a purpose- thanks for your inspiration and consistency.

OMG! AmandaJean, I am a novice, and I mean NOVICE quilter. A while back our girl scout troop visited a senior apartment facility and a sweet lady asked me if I wanted some quilting fabric. Of course, I said yes. Free fabric? Who says no? Well, the fabric is "unique" and I can't see how I would turn it into anything pretty. If I win, hopefully you can help me. Thanks! I would like to see king-sized quilts too.

Caroline said...

That's so cute! I just refreshed my memory and looked at all of your mini-quilts. I think I might take on the challenge of a mini-quilt a month with my few scraps and donate them to the hospital in my area. Premie blankets are always in high demand, and families LOVE getting lovely (and made with love) quilts. I actually don't have many scraps because I'm generally pretty good at math and am not allowed to buy extra (starving student... Poo.). But with the extra that I do have a mini a month would keep me crafting for sanity and it would go to someone who needed it! Thanks for the idea! :D

I am finishing 2 quilts for families that lost their boys last year. Both boys were born the same month & year as my daughter and their mom is part of a "playgroup" board. We've been together for over 10 years now. Loosing 2 of our "babies" within 6 weeks was a huge blow for all of us. We decided to make a quilt for each family and I made a lot of the blocks and have lost of extra scraps. I would love to see anything made with these scraps to have as a happy memory of these boys.
