I am making 9 patches out of 1'' cut squares. I'm not sure why.
I'll be the first to admit that it's ridiculous. Each block will finish at 1.5".
(I totally blame Tara.)
Oh, and the next contestant of my scrap challenge is Thimbleanna! Send me some of your scraps, lady, but don't go expecting a king sized quilt! ;)

If you put four of them together, they would make an adorable pincushion!
Jennifer :)
It will be so pretty :)
I"ve always wanted to make a miniature quilt, I think they're adorable!
lol! Awesome.

You definitely have earned the title of your blog!;)
Have you seen some of the wonderfulness that has come from your ticker tape?:) Thanks again for letting me use your tut!
My 7 year old daughter has a favourite word which perfectly describes these: 'rid-ic-ull-us!'
oh, and just wondering, how wide are you planning on the sashing?!
They will be great. I have a box called little quilts and this is something that would fit right in. Little wall hangings or table toppers. Perfect!!
"I am making 9 patches out of 1" cut squares. I'm not sure why."
...because you can, that's why! Some times you gotta do what ya gotta do!
Love the tiny squares... actually give me an idea.... hmmmm....
:)
If this is the beginning of a twin sized quilt-along, I'm out! ;) but, I'd be more than happy to watch you make a twin quilt out of them! Actually, if you are making an Irish chain, then I'm back in.
Well, you are crazy mom quilts! 'Nuff said.
Ha! These are adorable. I once made wonky stars with 1" squares and half triangles. I won't be doing that again. Well, unless I want to. :)
woah. teeny is not my forte' but I can't wait to see what you are creating!
Teeny Tiny Treasures. Your scrap pile will never miss them! ;)
oh my goodness, i have been wanting to do the exact same thing. I was inspired by these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/acardaday/4874819814/in/faves-27908852@N05/
Oh, my you must be nuts :) . Is it hard to press your blocks since they are so small?
Craziness!
Very, very small!
Oh, so tiny! Hope you aren't planning to do a full sized quilt with this project!
Whatever you make, I know I'll love it.
Have fun!
Karen
They are adorable. I am making log cabins using 1" strips. It's crazy but just so cute.
Might be crazy.... but they are super cute!! I'd love to make a miniture quilt with those. I have no idea how to do a 9 patch though!!
What an adorable quilt your friend sent you. I think tiny 9 patches are cute. One of my favorite wall quilts was one I did with small 9 patches. Go to my blog if you want to see my current project, Grandmother's Flower Garden.

How adorable! I can totally see myself making these.
Holy Cow! The REALLY crazy part of this post is that I won the scrap challenge! Really though CrazyMom, you don't have to make squares that small for me!!! ;-)
BTW, I'm SOOOO excited!!!
Too cute! I saw a quilt recently that had these all through out and it was stunning. Keep up the great work. Perhaps I should start my own collection of tiny squares.
I tried this something like this - my reasoning was it's a 'small' project so it's simpler right? LOL Your's look wonderful, mine were like parallelograms instead of squares :)
I love it! There's only one problem I can see, I find these small things can be addictive. Good luck.
Very very very cute, I might even do this! Happy sewing!
Yep, you've gone off the deep end. Good luck! I'm sure it will be beautiful, whatever it turns out to be!
I made 964 of those little 9 patches that finished at 1 1/2" and set them in a trip around the world setting with an alternate block, entered it in a quilt show and won a judge's recognition ribbon. I love tiny!!!
ummm..errrr.... well... i hate to be the one to tell you.. but this is NOT going to bust any big stash... just saying...
um... this is beyond ridiculous, but rather ridonkulous!! But I'm sure it will turn out gorgeous :)
cool - I read you both, this will be interesting....as to the mini 9 patches.....good luck?
I think I have a bunch of those stashed somewhere. I wonder if mine are that small. I may have cut the strips 1 1/4. Now you've got me wondering.
I think that maybe you are making those cute little nine patches for me? :P They are so cute!!
Sometimes you just need to work on something intricate and fiddly .. it's too easy to make a quilt with charm squares.
Looks very annoying to work with, but so cute- I'll bet your daughter loves them! I got a quilting book for small quilts- perfect for using up FQ's they said. Ha, tried one and realized it should have been called crazy quilting. It's fun for a bit, but patience trying for me. Can't wait to see the finished product!
AMAZING! I absolutely love tiny tiny things. I just recently posted a little cheater tutorial for making wonky stars (http://mommysnaptime.blogspot.com/2011/02/tutorial-tiny-wonky-stars.html) that finish at just barely 1.5″ Oh they’re wonderful! But sometimes I do stop and think… if I had made this block regular sized I would have a king sized quilt already! lol. But the tiny works for me in challenge, and in that I have a very small stash of fabrics. :) I can always use my fav. fabric if I only use 1″ at a time!
You will love it, I made a large one using 1 1/4inch square and it is one of my all time favourite quilts
Happy stitching
cheers
Christine
I go on these crazy jants myself at times. Not sure why, but I can't seem to throw out a thread of scrap fabrics!! :-) It's a sickness ya know! There are cool though, and now you got me wanting to start yet another little project. Last weekend I added to my scrap wheel, I have stitched together a long strip of scraps. It's 1-7/8th wide. Then rolled it up like a jelly roll and I keep adding my tiny scraps to it. Why you ask? Not sure other than it sure looks cool. I guess I could cover my craziness by calling myself green and the recycling queen! :-) :-)
LOL...I'd do a mug rug with that size not a biggy quilt for sure
Tiny blocks are the cutest!
Congratulations Anna!! I can't wait to see what is created with your scraps. those 9 patches are cute but waaaayyy too small for me to work with!
Love the teeny weeny blocks! Although doing anything bigger than a pincushion (or maybe a doll quilt) might drive you a little bit insane. I reckon I can cope with 1" finished blocks, but 1" cut is just crazy talk!
you are a crazy woman! I sewed some 1.5 inch squares together yesterday afternoon, and it was tough. I hope they don't end up too wonky. Have fun with this new project!
I have A LOT of 1" strips of fabric left over from a log cabin quilt I made my mother and haven't been able to figure out what to do with them - sew them in strips, make a postage stamp... can't wait to see how this comes out, maybe it's the answer to my strips.
I have A LOT of 1" strips left over from a log cabin quilt I made. I haven't been able to decide on what to do with them, sew them in strips, make a postage stamp quilt... you have given me a new idea. I am anxious to see how you finish this.
I've always said parenthood will drive you to the brink LOL! Make your little sweetie a doll quilt!
I've never made a block smaller than 8". My new daughter's quilt will have 6" blocks and I'm excited to have a chance to do something so small and cute.
But never this small! How did you get the fabrics to obey??? Or your sewing machine??? :)
Have fun!!
Those patches are lovely. Well done!
Little can equal cute but I agree it is a little bit ridiculous. Notice I said a little bit, not completely.
This looked so cute I had to try one and it is just as cute in real life!! I don't think your crazy at all! Thanks for the idea, now what to do with it!
I love these little blocks and can't wait to see what you do with them.
So my reading comprehension needs a tweak, because I thought you said the next mini-quilt player was going to be "Thimblina". You know, to appreciate those tiny little blocks! Ha! Ha!
I love that you got a mini quilt in return last time. What a cute little bit of confetti!
Oh my goodness. It makes my fingers hurt and my eyes squint just looking at these teeny tiny blocks.
They are adorable!
Question: you say in the FAQ that you use bleached muslin for white on white. Do you use it for the quilt tops? is there a problem with the see through? Thanks!
It's not ridiculous, it's adorable!
I made 6 house blocks yesterday finishing at 4.5", the pieces were 1" wide. Your 9patches will look so cute in a little quilt.
You are a crazy mom that quilts:)
I just finished a quilt 13x13 1" squares - finished 7.5" square. I am working on another 20"x20". You can see the finished one here:
http://rachel-thelifeofriley.blogspot.com/2011/02/fusible-grid-quilting-tutorial.html
These fabrics are lucious! Thanks for the chance to win...
this is amazing! is this the same size as what is called a "postage stamp" design?
It will make a cute doll quilt
I have been saving all my scraps for a long time now, SOME day I will be using them, maybe after I finish putting together the bigger ones!!!!
You say ridiculous, I say sublime. Well done.
My mother-in-law hand pieced a full size bed quilt in 1939. Yes, it is called the "postage-stamp" and I had the privilege of hand-quilting it last year when my sister-in-law gave it to us. Good job, CrazyMonQuilts!
